@@abdelll9737 can you explain why Abu bakr Al sadiq and 'aisha radiallahu anhu were experts in the science of genealogy if there is zero value in learning it? Why did the salaf Learn this science if it was asabiyah? Why did Umar ibn khattab during his caliphate he wrote to bani ghassan a Christian arab tribe which was a vassal of the Romans. He told them we share a similar ancestry we are arabs and he asked them to ally with them against the Romans. Why did Umar mention they share the same culture, language, traditions etc if the Quran and the prophetic Sunnah forbids it. No harm in taking pride in your history, culture, traditions as long as it within the bounds of Islam. If I say my country is superior or my culture or my people this is asabiyah. The brother never said that.

Alhamdullilah I converted to Islam 40 years ago and I was the first from my family to do so. I know my family line all the way back into Slavery on both my Father and Mothers sides of the family and all my fore parents back to Slavery time were married Alhamdullilah.

ka1257 - Alhamdulillah! That’s beautiful. Allah Subhana wa ta’A’la (Most High) is All Knowing. In His Wisdom, He ta’A’la Knew a portion of His servants would be born from zina (fornication - having relations and not being married). I’m in NO WAY condoning it, however a multitude of converts came from unlawful behaviors, hence the reason, By Allah’s Permission they saw the need to change those behaviors for something that was better and therefore heard Allah’s Truth and accepted Islam as a way of life, Alhamdulillah. For the knowledge you have regarding your family histories on both sides and none were slaves, Allah is Akbar (Great). Those who don’t know anything about their ancestry on one side, in no way shape or form diminishes the Light and Wisdom of Allah Most Great. I pray your family members are Muslim, righteous doers and they will be blessed to be like the generations of Abraham and his descendants when they promised Allah to worship only Him and His Values....May they be protected from being like Abraham’s progeny who had all the worldly knowledge and goods but neglected worship of Allah Alone and His good....no matter the good they had, they lost it in the end due to their turning away from righteousness or Right Guidance, Amin. There is a great beauty in being a slave. When African Americans were slaves we sure stuck together more and took care of our families tier in some cases. Not saying we should be slaves or have such a mentality now, but sometimes in not having much, it helps one to establish a form of humility and understanding that you need Allah (God) and your reliance upon God be 💪 much like our dear prophet Yusuf (May Allah’s Peace be upon him). He was a slave for a time and gained much knowledge, wisdom and humility during those years. So many stories of slaves in Islamic and American history regarding the obstacles slaves have overcome, the virtues learned and how they became successful. And that’s just in the life of this 🌍; only Allah Most High, Truly Knows the numbers who have made it to Paradise. May Allah make us all, regardless of how we came into the earth (cause He ta’A’la can do and change all things), of His Righteous slaves, relying on Him Alone, effecting that good into the 🌎 and May our actions be witnessed by the Qur’an for us and not against us, Amin!♥️

As a somali, I went a predominantly Arab school throughout my elementary and high school years, and many of those kids would ask me why are you a muslim your not a Arab. Hey, I was a kid, I had no answer for them but that continued for years. So my point is kids are brutal to each other, there is no limit to the hurt they can cause to other kids, and teaching your kid to answer back is a good way of putting confidence in your child. Abdi Then, what is your reasoning for teenagers and adult Muslimun who say they read Qur’aan and the ahadith, and the Tafseer of the Qur’aan? Those who attend the Masaajids and participate in the 5 daily prayers daily? Those who have attended the Universities of Islaam abroad in Saudi ‘Arabia, Sudan, and other parts of Africa and Asia? What about the Somali sisters whose parent tell them that African Americans are not fit for marriage? Yet their daughters marry Mushrikeen, Kaafirun, or having no belief? I know personally of this happening. It’s the same amongst the Pakistani, ‘Arab, Bangladeshi, and others from foreign soil living in America?!
These bad ideas are learned from family and friends, then fester and grow into beliefs, which then characterize their Adab, the heart, the consciousness, and stains the heart.

Unity in Islam is based on ‘Aqeedah (creed) and imaan (faith) and Tawheed (Islamic monotheism). We unite upon Laa ilaaha illa-Allah. And nothing else. Abdelkarim Karim Since it is apparent that you’re not actually familiar with systemic oppression, generational mental and physical torture, and a TOTAL severing from ones roots and culture. Please allow me to briefly educate you. Clearly you do not know what it is like to be born in a society that has created and maintained laws that keep you and people of your race, in a positions of fear, disenfranchisement, and servitude. A system that’s been in place for CENTURIES.
A system that will execute human beings who look like you, your brothers, sisters, mothers, and fathers, solely because they didn’t “comply with the officer” or because they were “looking suspicious”. Again, a finely tuned system put in place for CENTURIES. A system that has gone unchecked by MILLIONS of people who immigrated to this country; people who’ve benefitted from the literal blood, sweat and tears of my Black and Native brothers and sisters. Yet, we rarely ever see any type of major political or social advocacy from the same people, who again have benefited from our oppression and suppression. I could go on but I’ll just recommend a couple of books that will aid in your US history education. The People’s History of the US-Howard Zinn and The New Jim Crow- Michelle Alexander. Happy Informed Reading! #BLACKMUSLIMAH

I'm surprised Imam Shadeed would call fellow Muslims out by name and challenge their records on Anti Black racism like that. Omar Suleiman is always at the forefront in speaking on these kinds of issues and showing up at rallies etc. He doesn't hang back to see which side will prevail before he takes a stand. And as for Linda Sarsour...I dont know her personally, but I know here in NYC she routinely works with a Coalition of Black and Latino activists both Muslim and Non Muslim who are about the work. I dont think they would let her in their circle if she was a closet racist or token supporter. I also know she has received threats to her life by Trump supporters etc here in the City.

As salaamu alaikum. (I didn’t listen to the entire lecture yet....I had to comment at 17:25) - I believe I understand what point you’re making Shadeed Muhammad regarding the selective activism. But let’s be fair; why are you coming for Omar Suleiman? I could be wrong....I’m open for comments. As an African American woman convert to Islam, I watch/ listen to a variety of Islamic speakers. In my opinion Omar Suleiman has been one of the foremost in being outspoken on several platforms and/or lectures to discuss the rights of different minority groups, especially African Americans. Not sure as to how he became involved in the LGBT stances or marches, but is it fair to call him out and not in the same breath question as to why ANY Islamic speaker, Imam or otherwise are not speaking up about what is happening (besides this talk), in this current killing and protest of George Floyd. Honestly speaking from time to time, you’ll hear an Imam, speak against the injustices in a khutbah or two, (not saying that Islamically speaking according Shariah that there must be), but I rarely see and/or hear any Muslim scholars, Imam’s or leaders walking and publicly standing up against these killings. I believe it is a lot of layers to all of this, some of which you have mentioned. Nonetheless I feel that to call out one Imam, you must call them all out in standing up for what is going on in the African American communities, immigrant, African American or otherwise. I just feel that out of all the imams/daees (student speakers of knowledge) famous on social media platforms who have spoken up and out for justice specifically for The African Americans, Omar Suleiman has been one of the☝️that comes to mind. Not saying that a collective Islamic movement in standing up for what is happening is necessary (it is supposed to be part of our religion and what we practice to speak out and stand up for social justice for all) and I don’t know Omar personally, however if we could get a platform/talk started, I wouldn’t be surprised if he were invited to join - I would not be surprised to see his presence. May Allah Most Merciful guide us all and may we be conscious enough to hear, hearken and act upon His call,, WHOEVER we are, WHEREVER we are, Amin!

Obviously he doesn’t think so. But to answer your question brother. Not only is it haraam (forbidden), it’s major major Shirk (polytheism). It’s like if the Quraysh asked the prophet to concede and compromise a little and to hold elections with them whether the prophet Muhammad was in the right or whether the Quraysh Pagans were in the right. To vote and decide whether Allah alone should be worshipped or whether we should be tolerant of other gods and allow the worship of Hubal, Laat, Manaat, ‘Uzzah as well. As that would be the proper democratic thing to do. Imagine voting in the time of the prophet to keep Islam inside the houses of the Muslims and make public life completely secular so as to not offend other religions and atheists etc. Imagine voting on whether Allah’s divine laws should be implemented or manmade laws. Exactly! Just as that would have been outrageous and polytheistic and Kufr Akbar (major disbelief in Allah/apostasy on the spot), so too is it major Kufr today. Allah’s laws do not change because we are in modern times. What applied in the time of the prophet regarding ‘Aqeedah (our belief system) applies to this day until the day of judgement. Allah alone can create laws and there is no debating or voting or discussing whether Allah’s laws should be followed or not. The mere suggestion that it should be up for debate is an act of apostasy.

By the way, If they vote for who to worship, still it is not Haram or Shirk. I vote to worship Allah and if somebody vote to worship an idol it is up to him/her. I will still worship Allah. No shirk here.
Sometimes people will vote in their home to know where to put a dinner table!. Some cities will vote to elect somebody who make traffic law. How about 2 candidates who run for presidency of a country: one of them wants to make a war against another country to steal its resources and destroy its people and the other competitor wants to do only sanction against that country. 50/50. Your vote may determine if you will choose an oppressor or a killer. You have to choose one of them.
