      Episode idea: Top 3 great cocktails on a budget - either using simple ingredients readily and cheaply available OR taking more refined drinks and attempting to reverse engineer them with cheaper ingredients?

    Fun fact: the Riker Maneuver was apparently because actor Johnathan Frakes had a old back injury that made getting into chairs like that difficult, so doing that maneuver somehow helped getting in more comfortable

    In the Star Trek Online mission "Night of the Comet" you go back in time and help one of Scotty's colleagues get a little drink in her (a "Nerve tonic") to get over an attack by weird aliens - it's described as a stronger version of a Samarian Sunset, served warm in a stemmed glass with a drop of honey for garnish.

    • @impwarior
      @impwarior ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@The_Jovian I picture a drop of honey dripped onto the top of the drink and settling to the bottom, not really doing too much to the drink itself but having it end on a sweet, syrupy note. Kinda like if you put sugar in a cup then make coffee over it you end up with a sweet last gulp.

  • @SpiralSine6

    Shot in the dark idea for the Samarian Sunset:
    Don’t chill the drink, keep it as clear as possible, and at the end you garnish with a small frozen cube of lemon juice and gold luster. Thus as the cube melts you get an approximation of the “sunset”.

    The "Riker Maneuver" is due to Jonathan Frakes' chronic back pain. It's difficult for him to bend down like a normal human would while sitting, and he'd been sitting in chairs like that for quite some time before starting filming of TNG.

    I always thought Kanar would be a fun one to try and make. From what we know of it on ds9 it’s thick and syrupy in consistency and spoils over time. In one episode they drink an expensive and older vintage that is thinner in consistency so it’s possible it thins out over time or that more expensive Kanar has a higher alcohol content. Usually when they are said to be drinking more expensive Kanar it seems to act like hard liquor while more general Kanar has been seen being drunk in quantities equivalent to wine. It’s also seen in a few colors in the show the biggest outliers that come to mind are the blue and orange varieties rarely seen, the dark colored syrupy version seems to be the most common. And we also know that on set they used Karo syrup for it. Maybe it’s the cool looking bottles or the weird consistency but I’ve always found Kanar intriguing.

    This is a bit of a deep cut, but there's a cocktail called the "Tarantula Fizz" in the Three Stooges movie "The Outlaws is Comin'!" I don't remember the exact list of spirits that went into it, but I do recall tequila and one-day-old bourbon, along with "a cactus twist," where the outlaw preparing it wrings out a cactus over the glass.

    Cardamom and Caramelised raisin bitters seem like a good fit for a Starfleet Old Fashioned. We know from Lower Decks that the Boimler estate farms raisins, and it' makes sense for some of them to make it into a prestige cocktail ingredient.

    If you want a colour changing drink, you could infuse your base spirit with some splitpea flowers to make it dark blue, then have a pipet or something with any acid in it, and drop it into the glass and it'll turn a light pink/purple. You could have the pipet in your hand and make it look like you're just tapping the glass while injecting the acidifier. It won't look like a Samarian Sunset but it'll have that colour changing effect. (Correction: butterfly pea flowers, which is also sometimes sold as Dok Anchan Tea, or Sweetpea Tea)

    My partner and I are always watching your vids, you've taught me so much! In this, for the Samarian Sunset, I wondered if it might work to do something with butterfly pea flower ice cubes or putting the Lustre dust into ice cubes? It wouldn't necessarily be an instantaneous reaction, but a slow transformation.

  • @Draukagrissah
    @Draukagrissah ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I really think for the Sunset that you could use a botanical spirit that can louche AND some luster dust, that way you could drop ~a tablespoon of ice ice ICE cold water and it will not only louche the spirit but it should somewhat fall to the bottom (being more dense AND colder than the spirits) disturbing the luster to create maybe a *little* of the sfx feel

    Two anime I'd like to recommend for inspiration:
    Death Parade
    It plays in a bar (of sorts) and each episode or two people enter. Would be interesting what you'd create based on what we learn about them during their stay. Oh, and the intro is baller.
    Mahoutsukai no Yome/The Ancient Magus' bride
    The main protagonists are really interesting and their development over the course of the series is fascinating. They are also very different in many ways but similar in others.
    The young girl is auctioned of to a mysterious magus who is actually more like a spirit or demon. She has a special property but is also ver frail and has been shunned because she could see strange beings that others can not. So she decides to give herself up to be sold so she can have someone who wants her.
    He is thousands of years old and a very powerful mage but in many ways he's like a child at heart. So don't think he really understand what a bride means. This is a wholesome show. Except when it's scary. Or Titania appears.
    Esp. their early interactions are very cute.

    Suggestion: I like the making drinks on the fly concept like this, it got me thinking when I was watching the customer is always wrong videos... It seems like folks for whatever reason want to make drinks with Sprite, it'd be interesting to see an episode of you trying to make cocktails with Sprite... Can Sprite be successfully used as a mixer?

    Oh I *loved* Zero Fux Beverly Crusher going after the raiders with a pump-action disruptor (I'm like 80% sure that in universe that it's some sort of disruptor, but it's definitely a blasting gun). Your criticisms.. they may be valid. But *THEY'RE WRONG* (planting my Federation Flag on a hill that I intend to die on)! Also, it's the 25th century, and Jameson has survived the Eugenics Wars, galactic expansion, wars with the Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians, the Dominion and the GODS DAMNED BORG as the well-whisky of choice everywhere! I'm all for it!

    Jonathan Frakes had a back problem. That's why he mounted chairs in that fashion. That's also why he had that "Riker lean" when he was standing. He couldn't stand for long periods of time. Will Wheaton just mentioned it in an episode of "The Ready Room" with Brent Spiner recently.

    Nice on the Garrison Brothers bourbon..... Your "new fashioned" is basically like an improved whiskey cocktail though.. not so new. But I will say that the flavors are new for sure. If you reworked it with similar stuff, desert door sotol has a special release aged in garrison brothers casks.

    I think for that first drink it could’ve been a good twist to add cherry grenadine to it after you poured it BUT use a syringe basically touching the bottom of the glass so that as you squirt(?) it in it’ll swirl upwards and around kinda like the show version.

      According to what few hints we've gotten over the years (including Worf "I like cloyingly sweet prune juice" son of Mogh's opinion), it's a fairly dry red. So look in that direction, maybe?

      Burgundy. Chateau Picard is in La Barre, part of Eastern France in the administration district of Bourgogne-Franche-Comte, aka the former regions of Burgundy and Franche-Comté.
      Thus, wine from Chateau Picard would be a Burgundy wine.

    if you revisit the sunset in the future, maybe a candy or gelatin bubble filled with luster dust dropped in at the end would have the effect, since it would dissolve quickly. also it's a hunch but I bet that a tall thin stem factors into how much of a swirl you would get when flicking the glass here on Terra Firma.

  • @caffeinedelusions
