Not for a normal studio, where I would never move them anyway. But I often work with a portable editing system for TV news, where I need to be on location. I have to do voice over recordings with this and do the final mix. I often do it with headphones, but the balance bertween voice and backround sound is hard to get right that way as no one watches TV with headphones. These would be very interesting for that setup. I will actually consider them.
Yes when on the road I would absolutely use wireless speakers. I don't care about latency as I mainly do mixing and such so I am not "real time playing" etc dependent. I like that they have the option to connect a signal cable. Having said all of that , I find the price a bit very steep tbh. After all it's a plastic bluetooth speaker. If I had to put a price on them I would say 500max but 800? Thats too much. For 800 I would expect a much more rigid cabinet or Aluminum. I like the repairability and such but for now this price is a no for me
I think you’d get way more bang for your buck with headphones. £700 is getting into really good reference quality territory with cans and the headphone output on current MacBook Pros is superb.
Interesting! It’s worth mentioning that lots of monitors include DSP these days which requires analog to digital conversion and back again, so even wired monitors can have some latency (less than 5ms usually I believe). Price-wise I’d say these are probably about right, a pair of Minirigs with the sub is £400
@@doctordilanka Yes I’m still happy with them. Also the feature I was really interested in is the portability of having batteries built in, not the wireless audio part. You can just connect them with audio cables if you’re worried about the wireless audio.
@@doctordilanka Probably would need an audio interface to do that since each speaker has an individual 1/4” audio cable connection. I’ve been connecting my Unit-4s directly to an Elektron Syntakt and an AlphaTheta Omnis Duo, but MacBooks don’t have 1/4” or RCA audio ports so you’ll need a connect a USB-C audio interface.
@@anomalousmaterialsmusic Weird, I thought these speakers supported stereo output just based on the Bluetooth connection and unless I missed something, that was one of the main selling points for me. Because I have 2 x JBL speakers that works well in stereo, but it's only compatible with my smartphone and not my laptop. 16ms lag. I already have so many lag issues with FL Studio recording live with a USB midi controller keyboard. I'm aware of some of the mitigating settings, but it's still so frustrating. Every little bit adds up. Thanks for that review!
FL is definitely not the easiest live environment. I didn’t run into any issues using it with FL for finger drumming and midi keyboard recording but every system is unique.
I put mine on realtek asio if am using any midi input devices and it gets rid of the lag. I cant use other audio except fl studio while I have it on that but its perfect, its the bottom one under fl studio asio in the audio settings and will be named after your sound card, took me ages to figure it out. Still got the issue with recording live, I can get it down a tiny bit more but theres still a delay. I def need a better computer and microphone though, usually just use audacity when using my mic and the just edit the clips in fl studio.
That was a really clear and useful review. Top job. 👍 I need to record finger style acoustic guitar and vocals in the corner of a relatively small room. Any reason these might not be appropriate? Many thanks. 🙏
I was thinking this too. These would be so easy to set up without needing to run power and audio cables. The transmitter can’t support atmos yet but I imagine that is something to consider for the future!
When connecting via AUX, I'm assuming that the audio will only come out of the one speaker? Or is there a way to connect though AUX and still get stereo?
