Thanks. I agree, with most things these days I find that people who spend weeks/months/etc. working on something take for granted the knowledge they've gained and think everyone else should somehow automatically think at that same level. Through the manual/video/or real life work/mentoring type situations I always make sure to try and address as much as possible because I recognize most people like to over estimate their understanding of something or they're simply too afraid to say they don't understand, which is why this video was so long, and yet there is probably more I could have covered!

>Due to how DCS exporting works, the workflow is the following: In-game instrument --> exported to 2nd computer monitor --> DCSDS screen captures/records instruments displayed on 2nd computer monitor and sends data via wireless internet to tablet/phone/etc. that has app running. It's like how a mouse works and takes very fast screenshots and sends those pictures to the app. Play pictures fast enough and you have the appearance of a video. Purchased the iPad app, followed the instructions, installed the server software - had the buttons working briefly then they stopped. Never got the DDI screen up.
This is not a “polished” product. Avoid.
Will this be fixed for multithreading?
This is still working. I got the Hornet app which now has a new link I think in the app store. I had to do some manual configuration of the .lua files because the AMPCD was being displayed over the right AMPCD so I would see them both overlaid.

Great video, really clear I got it working with a second monitor setup and it displays on my tablet screen fine but the game has constant flickering which translates onto the tablet screen, without the software running DCS does not normally flicker, would be great to know how to fix it.

Hi, first of all I apologize for my English, but I'm not a native speaker, I'll get to the point I just installed this application both on the PC and on the A-10C Tablet, and I'm encountering a problem, if I deactivate the flags on the MFCD1 AND MFCD2 like reported in the video, no image appears on my tablet, but if I activate the MFCDs they appear on the tablet, how can I solve it???? thanks and good work..

I have two questions about what you said in the video I play DCS since almost 2 years now and I really love it.
1: how do I set up the devices if I have 3 screens cause in your video you talk for 2 screen but what about 3.
2:If i would like to use (multiple IPAD)to get 2 MFD'S and the UFC'S but don't want pay to much, what is the minimum requierment for the pad to drive correctly during the game.
Bonus question: All in the video is that applicable for the F-14B TOMCAT too.

1. If you only use one of those screens to play on then the method is the same. Just use the monitor to your right and leave the left one blank. If you use all three to play then you'll need a 4th monitor if you want to export the screens.
2. I don't fully understand the question, maybe what version IPAD (i.e. the hardware inside) will deliver the best results? I've never tested the various IPADs, or had any desire to, to see what would "perform best." Since the tablets aren't really doing any hard graphical work and mainly just displaying a streamed video (it's really just fast updated screenshots, but for the sake of simplicity let's call it a streamed video) or sending a push button command, all over your wifi network, I think most should work fine. I would look more at what Ipad or android tablet can support the OS needed to run the app. If the first gen IPAD can't run IOS 7+ or tablet run Android 4+, then it won't work. Overall though, I can't give any form of guarantee as to what will or won't work.
BONUS: No, there is currently no F-14 app. Only aircrafts supported as of this date (May 2022) are the A-10C, F-16, F/A-18, and Ka-50. I haven't been in contact with the dev since he was working on the Ka-50 app, now released, shortly after the release of this video almost two years ago now, so I don't know what his next plans are, if any.

Sorry for taking so long, they were buried in storage and I didn't have the heart to dig them out. Believe I got them from an ebay store based out of hong kong for about roughly $40-$60 each.
I think i followed everything from videa and manual.
I have dual monitor setup. I play on my main monitor, and i extended i a bit on second one to put there mfcd's.
They appear in game, i see black part of monitor, and both fmcd's there working, but on my tablet, i dont see them. buttons work, and "server connected"green text dissapears as soon as i get in aircraft, but both tablet mfcd's are just black.
Any idea what im doing wrong?

I just bought the app, everything connect's fine, but the f16 mfd's dont show up. They are black.
I can touch the buttons and see the changes in game.
If I switched the tablet to vertical mode I do see the UFC and all the correct numbers, but in horizontal mode I get black mfd's.

Grab the red and green icon in the exporte setting window and drag it to another monitor.
Does this still work in VR? Or it gets disabled by dcs like what it does to Helios?
I followed this exactly and the touch screen works its just the AMPCD just always has the "Server connected" screen up. Any known fixes?
I'm just gonna copy and paste the comment I made on a similar situation below. Feel free to actually reply if any of these were the issue. It may help others who come here with a similar issue. If it's showing black it may be that you mis-configured the export of the MFCDs. The biggest piece to this is if the AMPCD is being exported/shown on your second monitor, and by that I mean an actual physical computer monitor that your main game is not playing on. If the second monitor is completely black, and my assumption is that it is, then the export isn't setup properly.
(comment from other post) It's tough to diagnose remotely like this since there are many areas that could be causing your issue. Make sure to recheck the settings to see that everything is setup correctly. You're exporting the AMPCD to a second monitor correct? You can see it on your second monitor? You have the MFCDs checked in the configuration? You have deviceworks in the monitor settings? Correct resolution? The aircraft is started and AMPCD turned on in the aircraft? etc. etc. I'd start from the beginning to see where the issue is.

Got this all loaded up onto a 4th 10" hd monitor. It all shows fine launching with the AH64 but then the MFD's become unresponsive and static. Can anyone help?
The developer does not have an Apache app, which is why nothing is working.

Hi just started my setup, on the MFDs and the center mfd for aircraft do the need to be HDMI monitors or can the be USB smaller monitors?? Thankyou for your time to help us all and the time to keep this going.
I think it just needs to be read/seen as a monitor by your computer so the type of connection shouldn't be an issue. I personally have never used a USB connection only monitor so I don't know how those show up. Best way to know is just trial and error. It's how I learned and made everything in this manual/video.

Look up the program Helios. It's designed for touch screen monitors. Never used or kept up with it so I don't know how up-to-date it is. Search terms: DCS Helios, Helios Virtual Cockpit, Capt. Zeen Helios. Those should get you in the ballpark of wherever the current version is.

I can get to app to connect after setting everything up, and entering my IP, and port. Nothing happens, and I have no idea how to fix it.

My MFD shows on my ipad "server Connected standing by. It stays on this screen while I am playing in game and it does not change.. What do I do to fix it?
Find the export.lua file from your saved games dcs folder. Back it up and remove it. DCS Devce Server will automatically generate it for you. After that, find out what 3rd party program caused that issue.

I'm a bit late to this thread. I am currently running triple screen LG C1 - 48s". I'm not using the Nvidia "surround". That being said - in DCS under settings; I have monitor set to "3" allowing me to use 3 Screens for flight view... If I set monitor to "Device Works" I will loose the other two monitors... Any work arounds?
I personally never tried to stretch the game over multiple screen as I used a widescreen monitor, but my only suggestion would be to make sure you stretch the in-game gameplay box in the server settings across all three screens. I haven't watched this video probably since I made it so I can't remember if it was the red or green box.
So you explain that if you use a vpn you need to use the public IP to connect. However does this mean Auto should work and we do not touch the ip/ port segment on our app??
I don't fully understand the question, but if you read the text I believe I corrected what I had verbally said in the video. It was basically inconsistent for me. Sometimes it would just connect and others it wouldn't. I didn't care enough to test further.

I had to give directions for three different setups, so yes, there was a LOT of repeating of material, which ended up making the video so long. I also don't take for granted that someone should already know something so I like to make sure I cover as much as possible so that everyone can digest and apply the tutorial to get it working for them.

Thanks for the full tut. However I am on single screen but really only wanted the displays functions for my iPad did not care about the touch screen functions.
So there is no way to see displays on iPad without have the screen display on the side of my monitor. That's a bummer! No way to hide the screen outputs? Wish there was a way to fix that without buying another monitor. KA50
You can use it with one monitor. connect another cable from your video card and your monitor. It will make fake monitor for the output and don't mess the primary monitor. And if you uncheck MFCD 1 / MFCD 2 in the export setting window, it will not make any MFCDs to your monitor. You can use the button only.

Watching you setup the display screens, it seems this app does not support those who use triple screens, or does it? I am a bit confused on the screen setup part of the tutorial.
You can have as many screens as you want. You just need at least one unused screen to export the mfd screens to. I technically used four, and you can see all four of them in the windows display 18:40. One main display (2), two small screens for exported left and right mfds (3 and 4), and one for the F/A-18C center mfd export (1) that the device server used to display the center mfd on the app. If you use a triple monitor surround sort of setup, you would need a fourth monitor if you wanted to view the mfds on the app. The buttons would work regardless of monitor setup.
Is it possible to set this up if I run the game on my secondary monitor? My setup is [2560x1440]primary -> [5760x1080]secondary. It is a basic 2 monitor setup. Reading the manual it appears I need to have the game launch on the primary and preferable have the secondary to the right.
It's recommended, and I specified why, but not required. Simply put the game output box on your second monitor and adjust everything else to your needs. Just try it the way you want it and see how it works for you. No reason not to.
I can't get any ip address to go in the dcs server
You don't need to input the ip address, it will connect automatically. However, if you somehow must input the ip address then from the start screen, tap the screen and it will bring up the 'ip input' window.

Hey, so i recently bought the app, and did the setup but when i start a flight i get no data on my iPad, it is always saying Waiting for hornet data. Do you have any information about this problem?
Try to connect manual mode for the server connection. Tab the screen will popup connection window and type your ip/port for your computer from here. If you need more assistance, please contact me via ihopi73@gmail.com.
does tablet and dcs have be both wifi or ethernet, or can 1 be ethernet and one be wifi?
Just needs to be on the same network to avoid having to do any manual IP configuration. For example, in the video, my computer was connected with via ethernet and tablet and phone wireless.
Can I use this on a tablet behind the cougar mfds? Like if I just put my tablet behind them & want to use them as physical hardware but have the screens of the tablet like you have the small lcds behind your cougar mfds?
I don't see why not. Depending on the size of the tablet you might have issues with the spacing of the physical cougar mfds as the app ones aren't resizable/movable on the tablet. Maybe they'll line up perfectly, I don't know. Give it a shot.

@chaos_out I am using latest dcs device server version 3.2.something and its working fine for single player but not on any of the multiplayer servers? Dcs device server app says waiting for DCS when in multiplayer mode. Is this the limitation of it?
I fly VR now, so I haven't used this in a really long time and don't know what the current status of everything is with all of the various DCS updates and app updates. If you can't figure it out you should reach out to the developer to see if it's a known issue. When Updating it updates about 10% and then hangs up and i get the "not responding" error and it closes and restarts. Any Ideas
The server will hung up if the device is not responding or your local network load is too high. Check your local data first. (like downloading data or view real-time movie etc.)

Unfortunately, no. The app/server doesn't have that capability programmed into it.

But how do you get the server to show two monitors when you only have one monitor? I linked my iPad to my computer using the server with no issues, and even connected through bluetooth; however, the server only shows/detects one monitor. When I try to change to multiple monitors in my computer settings, it does not see the second monitor (iPad I presume)..... Help please?
You kind of answered your own question in the first sentence. An iPad is not a computer monitor, and therefore won't show up as one. It has to be a typical monitor that is usually connected via HDMI/DP/VGA type cable to your GPU, maybe even the newer small monitors that use USB cables, but I haven't personally used any of those so I can't comment on it. If you only have one actual computer monitor then that is all you have to work with. You won't be able to export the displays and will be limited to only being able to use the app for the touch functionality aka the buttons.
@@chaos_out7841 I managed to solve this problem. So guys who only have one display you can connect your monitor with your gpu with 2 cables. I connected mine with displayport (primary) and for mfd's I connected HDMI.DCS Server app automatically recognizes 2 displays.

@@Tridan24 I had to trick my computer into thinking there was two monitors. Plugged a monitor cable (with no monitor attached) into the computer then set it up for two monitors. Once that happened, I used DCS server and set it up with no issues. There are a couple of you tube videos out there that explained it.
Noob Question , so when i want use a tablet as second Monitor (with this android app) i still need a second monitor on my PC ?? , so its not possible use only my main monitor (for the simulator game) and only the tablet for instruments??

If you want to export the visuals of the MFDs (the image being displayed), then yes, you will still need a second monitor. If you just want to use the tablet to push the MFD buttons, then no second monitor needed.

Completely breaks my triple screen. It won't respect my current setup that uses angle offset. All I want is the buttons to work, but I'm forced to revert back to "stretch over 3 screens" mode. What a waste of money.
Your setup is very unique, in that I would venture a guess and say that 1% or less of DCS users use an angle offset. This app, and FYI, most likely ever other similar app by other devs, won't have any programming to account for such a setup. Because of your unique setup, you'll probably be left to building physical button boxes to meet your needs, which from the sounds of it, might be more your thing if you're going for that type of immersive experience.
Also, the apps cost $3.5-$4, which I don't even think you can get a fast food meal for that anymore, so I wouldn't call it a huge waste, especially when other similar apps cost in the $10-$30 range. You've tried it, and now you know.
the advanced option its not there anymore
It still there. Just press left control key and the gear icon at the left top will change the color to red. Click red gear icon will bring you to advanced option window.
Every time I try to update it fails to load
Check to make sure your anti-virus isn't blocking any actions. Happened to me when i was initially testing the software and reported it to the dev. He issued a fix, but that was almost two years ago now so who knows.

@@chaos_out7841 I figured it out thank you, still not working with the MFDS they are not taking up the complete tablet screen, the ICP works great, the MFDs show they are connected to the server but are small and not receiving the data.
they are in the right upper corner of the tablet and i can't resize them and even the top row of OSB buttons are not accessible.

@@daemon3spade Yes. I didn't export the small rwr instrument, it was part of the mfd screen export. I believe specifically the EW page. I haven't flown the F/A-18C in a while and don't remember exactly the page name. I had configured it to display on the small lcd screens I purchased so I could see the left and right mfds all the time, physically in front of me, and use the Thrustmaster Cougar MFD physical hardware with it. You can either use the device server, or just manually edit the monitors.lua file to export it to any extra screen you want. It's just a lot of trial and error to see exactly which coordinates work for your setup.

Just thought I'd put out there that there is a way to add a virtual monitor to your computer (th-cam.com/video/ybHKFZjSkVY/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=M692). I have a 49" widescreen and don't want to attach more monitors so I installed that app and added a 1024x768 monitor in portrait mode on the right side and did exactly as Chaos_Out explains in the basic multi-monitor setup. Works perfectly. What I haven't figured out yet is if there is any benefit to doing 1024 res screens in DCS and if I have to change my resolution of my virtual monitor to support that.
