Good video ! When I was 19 years old in October, 1970, my mate and I tramped up the Wanganui Valley to Hunters Hut (the old slab hut) and then on up a newly-cut NZFS track to Blue Lookout on the tops, until we were above the Lambert River, and where we looked directly down onto the formidable Lambert Gorge. We carried rifles but saw no game. There was still lots of snow on the tops, it being October. You can order my newly-published hunting book ( RED DEER WRITING ) from any NZ bookshop, and read about our hunting and NZFS Westland adventures during the 1960s to the 1980s, including the Wanganui trips we made between 1970 and 1973.
Yeah good, trip before this one we tried a camera with heaps of zoom but it couldnt stabilise for us. Definitely recommend the phone mount for it as we could zoom in even further with that. Highly recommend
2 but we had 4 people so had to do 2 flights anyway. 400 or 450kg allowance per load so we would have got all our stuff in and the big white tent easy in one load.
We've put in for this block next year, looks good
We’d go back again, we’ve put in for this and some others. I’m conflicted between one we know and a new block!

Epic. We saw a stag with a hind flying in, then chamois and tahr in the Lambert itself. I'd definitely love to go back now i know a little about it!
Mean country down there, looks like challenging terrain down there 🤙🏻
Many great bulls we simply couldn't get to. Maybe the snow pushes them down in winter?
The fitness required for the walking, let alone carrying the packs. Top effort!
My knee swelled up after we flew out. Doc describes it as "quite a steep block" 😂
Cool Clip, Well done.
Cheers
Hey bro awesome video man. Was that you I met the other day in Queenstown with my family on the walking track? You were hunting chiomie
Nice vid, Thanks for sharing. How did you find the ATC spotter up in the bigger country for assessing bulls?
