  • Opened in 1899 and closed in 2007, this infamous spot on the Alamogordo horizon has an equally infamous history.

did you have to get permission to film at this location? Or can anyone just walk up to it?

I grew up there and never thought to go inside, now I just play disc golf at the park next to it when I visit. lol. They filmed a scene for transformers there.

I worked at Wyoming Sawmills which was owned by the same company that operated the Alamogordo mill. While I never went to this mill I heard many stories about it. Thank you for a wonderful documentary of this mill. Sawmills are fascinating places and should be preserved when possible.

Trinity site is located closer to Socorro, on the opposite side of the Mockingbird Mountains. There are 2 days a year they allow visitors to see the site. Last year was cancelled due to covid. If they open this year, you should check it out. Oh, and the logs for the mill were brought down the mountain to be milled.

I was born at Hollowman AFB and remember seeing this as a child ( 1965 ) as we came into town from base. Every year I see it from Hwy 54 on the way to EPTX. I hope they keep it standing.

That's incredible, must have been an interesting site well it was still in operation! Hopefully someone does something with it, otherwise it'll keep decaying. -Caleb

Alamogordo is not home to the trinity site. Alamogordo is near the trinity site, and we’re known as the “down winders”

The mescalerp apache tribe owns that property now. Surprised their security didn't bother you, if he was awake

There use to be a rail yard to east of it by main line and to south. Was a huge rail yard. The old spur to cloudcroft use to split east just past the north 54 70 junction, into laluz canyon balc up steep hill rd, across 82 and above the tunnel which is a the trail above the tunnel Vista.

In the Lakehead area of Ontario you'll be walking in the woods and come across a lot of old saw mills like this, nature having completely reclaimed it.

How did I miss this spot, I was passing through Alamogordo a couple of months ago but didn't notice this place

It's pretty easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. I actually discovered it on my way to film somewhere else about a year back. Saw it form the highway, did a little research and discovered what it was. Cool place -Caleb
