  • Once a collector of hostas many years ago; I now am much more interested in their landscape value. This is the first of two shorter video slideshows showing some of the hostas in 'The Gardens at Oak Lawn Cheese Factory'.

A lot of these areas you are posting on your site appear to be shade or part shade. Is that right? I have deep shade, shade, and part shade. I wanted to duplicate some of your choices for plants to make my areas for viewing more vibrant and interesting like you show. Thx for sharing.

Hi Deb..Yes there is a lot of shade... I enjoy using ephemerals, particularly in deciduous shade. I tend to limb up trees to provide more light but not direct sun... many plants do well in that situation. East morning sun and/or light are wonderful for a whole host of plant choices as well. Personally I'm getting old enough that I don't care for being in the sun at all and many areas of my gardens reflect that fact!! I am on FB and messenger if you have any questions... right now I'm so busy in the gardens that I don't get to my TH-cam channel and comments very often... that will change come winter! Take care... Larry
