    I was born at 24-weeks in 1999 and am now 22 years old. I’m very curious about the development of preterm babies, specifically micro-preemies such as myself. I’ve always felt a bit odd compared to the rest of my peers, and was slower to develop and mature. I’m very glad I found this video and am hoping to learn a lot from it 🙂
    Edit: I’m almost 25 now and plan to start a master’s degree next year. To anyone out there who fears either their or a loved one’s extremely premature birth might account for complications, please hang in there, have hope, and know that there is nothing wrong with you. You are perfect just the way you are.

      It’s worth noting that I have never experienced any major physical health problems throughout my life. I did when I was a newborn, but those issues (such as a brain hemorrhage) were resolved promptly through medication and constant care. I have really only struggled with mental health problems, such as anxiety. Needless to say, I had minor developmental issues regarding how I learned. Even now at 22, I still feel like I have ways to go before I reach some level of “adulthood”.

      Hi, your story is really interesting, I was also born prematurely I was born at 34 weeks and weighed 1 kg at birth, I’m 17 right now, but I just wanted to ask if you had problems with delayed puberty and height because that’s what I’m experiencing right now, and it would be nice if you can explain your physical growth timeline as well.🙃

    • @sbernstein
      @sbernstein 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HasanABader Hey! Fortunately I never had problems with delayed puberty. I experienced all of those...female "milestones" at pretty normal ages (first period at 13, stuff like that). It may be that your experience is due more so to genetics than to your premature birth? As for my physical growth timeline...well, I don't have every single detail. But growing up, my doctors told me that I was actually growing just fine for my birth weight (1.5 lbs, about 0.68 kg). So, although I was always short, I was growing at a rate that was in the normal range for someone born at 24 weeks at a low birth weight. I'm 5'1 now, and I know people shorter than me who were born full term. :)

    • @sbernstein
      @sbernstein 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HasanABader I do think the height thing also has genetic factors. I know people who were born in the NICU with me who are much taller than me!

      I was 27 wks. Now I am 50. Every body in my family was embarrassed to admit too prideful to admit someone in our family shite out a retard. So even when confronted with a yes or no "am I retarded?" No answer given.
      I wasn't potty trained till I was five. Only half way "there" living in a dream state till 14 or 15. Some noises and beats make me disconnect, like I can't hold on. The whole sensory issues. Smell touch sound. Glad to finally get validation.
      In 1992 I tried to get a pass to college math from algebra because the steps wouldn't stay strait...like the mini blinds wouldn't stay strait....she looks sideways at my beautiful face and declares it doesn't look mishapen (it is) and I don't appear to be limited in the written word so algebra shouldn't be an issue. Time span, holding on to several steps...
      Guess what, that instructor wanted me to do good, I ran out of class crying as soon as he turned his back... But he passed me.

    Preterm baby, born at 6.5 months, now 49. Took me this long to figure out that a lot of my minor irritations in life (difficult in inferring, generalizing concepts, "what is the best title for this paragraph?"stuff) isn't so much adhd / autism / generalized anxiety / etc but being preterm. I didn't know there was such a common set of life pattern but there is.

    My son was born premature at 34 weeks. At age of 17 he had his first seizure and a few months later was diagnosed with epilepsy. He didn't do well at school and needed a lot of help with studying. As long as we are aware neither i nor my husband have epilepsy in our families. He also suffers from ulcerative colitis which started also 6 month before his first seizure.

      I am so sad to hear that ,I am a student of nutrition and dietetics, and digging deeper into this topic currently, please talk to doctors and consultant who are specialized on such conditions , Educating yourselves as parents will be the greatest thing to help your child with, the UNICEF and WHO provide great PDFs about infants and preterm babies you may look at them. You are a great mother and you are so strong ,He will be okay with appropriate medical care and with you he will be better because you are doing your best ❤️

      @@TheAaronChand i understand what you're saying, but I agree with Brandon Gellegos. It's beyond bullshit being born very prematurely. A lot of us don't think straight, can't regulate emotions properly, struggle to socialize. I don't want to hear that 'everyone has problems'. For most people, those problems are something they had at least partial control over. This is not the case with premature babies. We are handicapped from the get go. Go fuck yourself with your acceptance peace bullshit. It's not grounded in reality.

    Hello, Hope you are fine.. Im from Mauritius and my baby was born in 29 weeks while my wife was 34 weeks. Dr advised to do an urgent c-section as the baby stopped developing due to low amniotic fluid. Now the MRI show that she has calcifications and eyes problems. Her skull has shrunk since she was born. Is there anything you can do to help, I mean any advices? I shall be really greatful if you can help. God bless you.
