Back at the Wilshire Pedro sits there, dreaming he's found a book on magic in a garbage can. He stares at the pictures, looks up at the cracked ceiling - "by the count of 3 I hope I disappear" that is poetry. Not many songwriters can pull it off.
This is poetry. A great thing about the internet, and youtube, is that so many people can listen to this, if they look, or know about it. I hope that if there is any person like Pedro ever anywhere, they can see this, and maybe they just can fly away. It certainly seems possible when you listen to Lou's ending of this song.
the new york album is one of the records i grew up listening, even before i could fully understand the lyrics... i was a kid and my older brother was listening to it the whole time... music that's part of my life. thanks for uploading and thank you, mr. reed!!
Ain't it obvious to all I'm a Lou Reed damned freak forever????!!Rip Mrlou Reed we all miss you so much&wish you was still here playing Live &playing so hard&with so much easy talent, the Kool way he just let's the words roll off of his tongue??!!!Yep I could listen to Lou Reed all night&love it as much as the man himself! Rip Mr Lou Reed!!great Kool as usual!!
@@mikes6970 I remember first putting it in my car, and thinking about the recording and the sound and the delivery - mind blowing from the first day, you're right.
Master of dark seedy emotional moments of streel life ... or real life to some of us ... love his lyrics .. every word has meaning .. a story teller of the darker side of life ... RIP brother lou ...

Re: above comment from ten months past by lebarosky. What beautiful writing. Finest thing I've ever seen on YT. "...a great engine of human destiny and striving." Damn.
I bet Fernando Saunders & Thunder Smith never thought they'd be Lou Reed's backing band for 25 years when they were playing in John McLaughlin's fusion group One Truth Band, but I sure am glad they are. Awesome.
"recognized" this song + album, while i was working for a local-radio-station ,around here! for my taste, its an outstanding track+album!! of course:"late work",but still outstanding!!one of the "best" things,Lou has ever done !!! THANX !!!
btw thx to the thumbs up, and Mr. Reed is on TH-cam doing some extremely complex and experimental jazz live. he is a brilliant musician and I doubt if any musician would disagree. love this band.
@lebarosky --- Probably the most well thought out statement I've read in a long time. I lived here then, I live here now. It's exactly as you say it is. "You can believe it, man, it's true...."
@smackythefrog23 Well said.Your post is informative and sheds a different light on the man. That said, I still don't care for Reed's music or politics but he obviously "walks the walk" Thanks for the comments.
@EddieKrane7 Lou Reed is also well known, if you would do your research for his philanthropy. I'll give you a moment to look into that. He also insists that his food and sustenance when on tour be locally grown, and not acquired in a corporate grocery store. He runs biodiesel touring vehicles and insists on "Green Concerts". He is not looking down with impunity. He still lives in the East Village part of the time, and was writing about his growing up and going back and its the same
this rock album, New York, is one of the greatest poems written in the second half of the twentieth century. it is a paean to the death of a great city. crack cocaine, Reagan, the dominance of greed, and it all is rolled into a terrible vast ball that is the world city. my father lived in the city at mid-century and it was like a great engine of human destiny and striving. by the end of century it was a wasteland with a pastiche of fools gold laid over it.
To be fair, Lou actually agreed to censor that line in the video, at least, to make WMG happy (one must always make that organization happy, after all).
@EddieKrane7 If i had to choose 5 albums to listen for the rest of my life, there´s no doubt that "Rock and roll Animal" would be one of them. And I don´t care any of the the opinions from you about Lou Reed. When i listen that album, i am in heaven. Other than that , you seem to know much better the personality of Lou Reed than me, for sure.
@rustylegiron what I wanted to say is that I have no electronic mail and utitizo of my son, I watch this video of Lou Reed and is great but it would hear Vevo system even better, I have this text translated by translator
Fantastic, it just doesn't get any better than this, I'm singing along with this and I'm coming up to 79, just never hear anything like this today
I'm singing along with Lou Reed at 71 and counting . . . LONG LIVE ROCK AND ROLL ! ! 🎸
A song of astonishing power and amazing beauty. Talk about two Americas. It's all right here in these four minutes. Thanks Lou.
Back at the Wilshire

Lou Reed is a genius. Geniuses are known to not be appreciated in their time. This song is more than beautiful, it's haunting. And touching.
Every bit as good as the studio New York Album cut . In some respects this is better . Thanks for posting some pure Lou Reed
Brilliant tune!
Lou is the ultimate observer.
I adimire his street poetry.

One of the most underrated artists of all the time.

this a message te to Lou
u always surround youself with quality musicians
i dont what the cirtics say
U ARE A LEGEND
u r original
Lou Reed is the reason I moved to New York. The New York that he sang about no longer exists, for better or worse.
Lou Reed had the guts and the wits to speak about the twisted, unpleasant aspects of life. I'm a fan of his since "Transformer".
This gives me chills- - nyc in the old days. Man, what a time- what a tune!!!
Scathing, devastating. Lou Reed has a talent for writing about scary things. He always has.
Un chanté/parlé inégalé, quel talent ! Merci Monsieur !
The brillance of Lou encapsulated in one song about a lonely lad in NYC.
This song deserves to be so much bigger than it ever was
My 1989 diary was deeply impressed by Lou's energetic drive.
I am grateful to him
Lou is great here, but damn that is a great band he had to back him in this era.
'New York' is one of the most unheralded albums of all time - what an incredible piece of work.
Totally agree .. known that from new ...😂
@@mikes6970 I remember first putting it in my car, and thinking about the recording and the sound and the delivery - mind blowing from the first day, you're right.
About 15 years ago I went to a poetry reading with Lou Reed & Jim Carrol at a small theatre in Manhattan- - Great writers & interesting people both
Lou Reed was the ultimate spokesperson for the down-and-outers of the Street Generation. RIP Uncle Genius.

Classic Lou Reed from the New York album. Makes amazing music without straying away from the classic rock'n'roll style and sound.
NEW YORK and MAGIC & LOSS is my fav, LR albu,. Tnx for this up. Cheers!
Awesome, powerful, rocking song. Loved the whole New York album.
One of the best songs EVER!!!
this whole album is one of the best....from front to back
I saw Lou Reed years ago at the St. James Theater in NYC. What a great venue to see a great talent....This song sounded great!!
One of the five to bring on a desert island.
Thank you Mr. Reed.
Excellent!...great performance of an awesome song!
Lou Reed es uno de los músicos más extraños que jamás he escuchado. Sus melodías son tristes, melancólicas e irónicas ; y poseen misterio y belleza.

Heavy memories. Scotland Yard. 90's
Heady psylocybin times, redefinition of moving lyrical statements.
Lou ROCKS.

Best sex beat in decades. Coolest beat in world history. Lou is Jesus. Take that Southern Man.
Been going now for 44 years - and still to packed houses. Not bad for someone who isn't too hot live!
@naomijoanroberts Thank you for your eloquent commentary.

FLY, FLY, FLY AWAY! But don´t forget to stay, if someone needs your personal "way"!
