President Idi Amin Dada died in exile at the 985-bed King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Saudi Arabia. His life, especially the years leading up to his exile and his time spent in foreign lands, reveals a narrative of military prowess, political intrigue, and personal drama that extends far beyond the typical accounts of his rule.Idi Amin was born around 1925 in Koboko, a region in the West Nile district of Uganda. A carbon date test conducted in 2003, however, estimated his birth year to be 1928. Amin joined the King's African Rifles (KAR) of the British colonial army in 1946. His career in the KAR took him to various fronts, including Burma, Somalia, and Kenya, where his combat skills and physical strength earned him rapid promotions. By 1964, shortly after Uganda gained independence, Amin had achieved the rank of major.
