Finally someone explains how to analyze the style you are going for to study it and learn from it. Thank you sm. Your channel is so helpful.
I didn’t know about the landmarks trick! I’ve been having especially a hard time with getting the proportions correct so this is going to help immensely, thanks for this insight and well made video I look forward to the next
Glad I could help! :)
Thank you!! Finally someone who talks about the 8 head 'trick'. I went to art school who prioritizes realism and traditional art. They wouldnt allow u to draw digitally or anything that isnt as close to human anatomy as possible or in any style but realism. I draw digitally and stylized so the 8 head 'trick' always frustrated me to no end because it wouldnt look good. I felt like I was doing something wrong but its simply not my style!
Do you post your work anywhere?
With this new found knowledge in hand I shall double my efforts
Good luck!
I'm late, but thank you! this tutorial is amazing and sooo underrated. Instant sub, you deserve more!
Exactly what I needed. Thank you ❤
For someone whos new to drawing this helped sooooooooooooooooooo much. This video was amazing thanks so much.
You are really good at explaining and your voice is very pleasant to listen to! You could start a course or something! Anyways, you earned yourself a sub! Thanks for the tutorial! 🙏
Good examples for 7 and 8 head proportion characters are 2b from nier and Bayonetta god those design are so good
As someone who has seen this advice in books and tried this before, I have to say that this sort of head-based proportion guide isn't that great for two reasons:
1) This method is very sensitive to how you measure a head length, which can be off for very easy reasons, such as the hair making the head look bigger than it is, or yourself simply not being accurate when copying the head length down a few times (espcially if you use a thick-ish line as a guide, don't use straight lines, and don't measure the distance with a ruler / with copy-paste), or you loosely estimating that some feature is "2.7" heads down and then basing other proportions off of that number. Once that head length starts changing, everything else keeps changing with it, with accumulative errors.
2) This method goes out the window the moment any main part of your character's body isn't completely perpendicular to the camera line of sight, e.g. the camera is looking at them from some higher elevation. You will have to estimate where the head lengths are, and if your eyes are good enough at doing that, you won't need this guide anyway.
I think what's better than merely measuring heads is to focus more on the big picture relations instead: where the major features / "landmarks" of the character are - and how big they are - in proportion to other major features. Such major features may include the head; neck to pelvis length; shoulder, hip and waist width; elbows, hands, knees and feet; and any distinctive parts on their outfit / person. The placement and proportions of these features define the rest of your artwork, so scout their general location down first, refine them early, then afterwards add the details connecting them together.
I love this guy, keep it up, hope this helps
omg THIS is the video I desperately needed
THANKU
Your criminally underatted

Thanks for the video! I enjoy your work on Twitter
Thanks! I'm glad to hear that :)
Wow this was super helpful. Idk why I assumed everything was just a standard 7~8 heads and nothing changed. This was an eye opener for me. Thank you xD
Dude, Ange from Princess Principle? Awesome! thats one of my favorite anime and it gets so little love despite the fact that its sequel films are still in production..
Admittedly this drags on a bit at some points but it is your first video and still a VERY good tutorial.
Oridays for Holostars EN when? 0.0

ehe im waiting for a coloring shading tutorial next!
I never expected to see Princess Principal in a video- like ever.
Good tutorial. Now please help me, with how to do the coloring as I didn't have a sense of color...
Hey @oridays, great video! I just have one question, does this work even for bent-poses and other poses? Do we take references similarly?
Cool video! thank
Princess Principal!😍
You wouldn't mind making a tutorial where you start right from the base to the finish, step by step right? If not please make one!
very helpful. I like the depth at which you go but you should be more confident
Head proportion can be 7 or 8 heads if you aim for a character with long sexy legs. Saw many of them on Pixiv.
Is the thimbnail Princess Principal?
Yes. Confirmed shortly into the video ^.^
What apps do you use to draw on pc?
A question, how do i apply this proportion thing to figueres that are in perspective
4. Gesture drawing exercise
i see ange i click
holy shit its ange from princess principal
Fubuki jumpscare
is it just me who constantly seems to inflate the head and make it to big for the body?
I think i had a brain fart watching this
Never draw anything, it is so hard and need to much practice, didn't know how to even do a properly cube lmao
It’s bc u don’t draw that u can’t draw a cube properly

Do you want some advice? Don't use these types of videos if you want to learn to draw. Don't get me wrong, the video is good but it's only for people who already have a decent knowledge of drawing and his basics.
OH MY GOD IS THAT ANGE
