- In this video we go through the central aspects of Epicurus's philosophy, especially the one that is developed in the most important writing that has come down to us, the "Letter to Meneceo". In it, this thinker develops his main positions on how to live a "happy life", a search that we currently associate with the ethical currents of Greek antiquity.
He is a great philosopher who, however, has been widely questioned throughout the Western tradition for his materialism and his defense of rational hedonism. Only in the 20th century has he recovered his figure from another perspective, and today he is usually presented as a highly relevant and topical thinker.
In the few paragraphs that make up the famous letter, this philosopher from the Hellenistic period addresses the central issues of his ethical position understood as "knowing how to live well", which requires getting rid of the main fears that haunt the society that surrounds him: the fear of the gods, of death, of the future, and of making mistakes in managing pleasures and pains, concerns for which he offers his famous "tetradrug".
