What an incredible interview and so informative. It was really cool to see various parts of the store and as you mentioned it being your favorite record/music store it is also mine. The gentleman you interview appeared to be a very nice individual and you can really tell he enjoys his work. Great vid and thank you for posting.
I really enjoyed this video. You asked really good questions. I have to agree on rare records statement. Specifically the Beatles Butcher Cover. Its rare but not as rare as to what people think...well depending what state it is of course. 1st states without the "sticker" ever pasted over to cover up the butcher shot are *EXTREMELY* rare with only 100 copies or so in the world. 2nd states are becoming rarer as people peel them. 3rd states not as rare because this is what you find as the finished product from peeling. Again, I really enjoyed this video. Thank you. Take care Peace!
When I used to live in LA I'd spend hours there and all the other record stores in LA and San Diego. I'd fly for the day to SF and back just to crate dig at the Amoeba's and Rasputin's in the Bay Area. I'd also fly for the day to Vegas or Phoenix and back to check out the record stores there. No wonder I've got so many records - and frequent flyer miles! That's one of the things I miss about living in LA. But living where I live now, I get to do the same one-hour "vinyl shopping flights" to Minneapolis , Chicago-Milwaukee, Denver and St. Louis. AND IT SUCKS IN THE WINTER!!!
Outstanding video, I've been to the Hollywood Amoeba store only twice. I've been to the San Francisco and Berkeley Amoeba stores too many times to count, I've been to most of the Rasputin stores hundreds of times too. Streetlight Records is on the smaller side, but still one of my favorites to visit. I been to tons of other stores in other states, and I can honestly say that Amoeba in Hollywood is the best record store that I have ever been to. Now I'm sure there are comparable record stores around the nation, but on my journey so far, AMOEBA ALL THE WAY
Hello from Argentina Matt! Thank you for sharing this amazing experience and let us visit Amoeba through this video. I haven't traveled to the States yet, but definitely this is going to be my first stop when visiting Los Angeles. Thank you for all the love that you put in your videos, and like Jarrett from Vinyl Eyezz says: "Keep spinning that vinyl!" Thanks again! ✌👋😀
Very cool behind the scenes stuff. "Nuances" is the perfect word for vinyl. Because there literally, compared to a CD, are more nuances possible because the sample rate is infinite. And you can hear that. '2500' 'wow'. I thought he was going to say 25000 :D. I love the 'we welcome all'-sign. That's what music should be all about. Universal and unifying. I do not own a copy of Tapestry. Am I missing out? :D. Man, people being convinced what they have is rare. It happens in every hobby. Cars, audio equipment, games, vinyl records... Asking and receiving is always the problem. People don't seem to get that. I'm selling second hand audio equipment at my local record store and the opposite happens. People go 'but I can buy that amplifier on the internet for half the money'. Well, yes. But I have to buy it, check it, fix it, take photographs of it and advertise it, the record store wants a bit too and, and this is the one people keep forgetting; If you buy it on the internet, it may be broken, often even if sellers try to be honest, they don't know something isn't quite right. And I buy all this broken equipment so you don't have to. And I have to put that into the price too because I have to scrap about 35% of what I buy. The bubble won't pop. The CD bubble has popped, other people stream. Vinyl will be the only physical format soon. Also presses are being made by big companies these days, Sony started pressing for the first time since 1989. Prices will drop except for the 'big bucks' artists. Neil Young, as much as I like his old work, will not hesitate to ask 90 bucks for another record sometime in the future. The cassette bubble may pop, which is a pity as it's great for small artists and it's a great mixtape format too, if you know how to use it ;). P.s.: Dear videographer, sometimes aperture wide open isn't ideal :D. f4 is actually quite useful especially with cheaper lenses as they're never quite sharp wide open ;) Also a fixed aperture lens is definitely the way to go, Tamron and Sigma have some nice affordable ones. Also that hiss and the (cooling? Computer) in the background; Adobe Audition has a nice noise reduction option that takes a print of the noisefloor and you can apply that to the sound. Works beautifully. This is definitely constructive criticism by the way, not trying to bash your work. I loved the video ;).
uh oh...no sandy? she's a doll. this was a nice surprise video. i've been going to amoeba since they opened. i used to be a supplier and even sold them a few thousand cd's before they opened. that was a good day but they got all their money back with time! viva amoeba!
Sandy has been busy filming Queen of the South and killing it in her acting career. This channel has been just me for about 6 months, you have a lot of catching up to do!! Hahaha
Cool video! I was at Amoeba Hollywood last week and found some great records there. Been digging there for the past 3 years and it is the best record store I've ever been in. Cool to see the back rooms of that store !
Yupp Carol King Tapestry is in my collection, an old beat up first pressing...that, and Rumors are in every ones collection weather you want to admit it or not.
- what are your favorite bands? - **mentions a few metal bands that metalheads typically listen to** - oh, but do you like listen to any hipster approved metal, though?
You probably dont care but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an instagram account?? I was stupid lost my account password. I love any help you can give me!
@Ahmad Zayn I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and im in the hacking process now. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Extremely awesome interview! Haha I can't believe that buy mentioned the corey feldman viny. Anyone whom actually plays that and thinks its a masterpiece should have a family member escort them to the nearest looney bin. Very cool to see this. There are no stores like this here in CT. Newbury comics is the closest. There is maybe 6 record stores in the whole state, 10 max.
have an online e-store but thats it so far. But there definitely be more around here. Even for the small state it is, it should have atleast one more per county.
James Leonard I agree with you, people selling off their CD collections for hi res downloads, will regret it one day I’m keeping my cds, made the mistake of selling off my vinyl and now rebuying it at 10 times the price.
true, i have many great options in the city. i do miss Other Music dearly. if you are near the city anytime soon, check out Human Head Records in brooklyn, i think it's the best place in the city for records.
oh that's awesome! i think he's rung me up a few times. for record store day, they have over 10,000 records for 25 cents, so i'll be there looking for gems!
Two thoughts on collecting; 1) Your collection in general, will only get as big as your shelving capacity - why buy if you can’t display. 2) Some collect to achieve SETS, as in every Beatles Album and pressing just for bragging rights, investment? There is no reasoning with these people, they will never sell. I collect to PLAY, and for me I limit myself to 1100 to rotate through. I know I could play 3 LPs a day (easily) for a year and end up playing the lot. No guilt and it’s not hoarding. Ask yourself, if I haven’t played it for 3 years, which collector am I, Practical or Disillusioned? What if your kids don’t want to inherit it? Enjoy it now, for your sake.
I have a 5x5 Kalax shelf already filled up plus many more records awaiting another shelf kit, I was given 2000 12" 78s that would have otherwise ended up on the garbage tip, last month that record collector was culling some low caliber LPs, around 50 of them were put in household garbage bin when I wasn't in Adelaide to save them, I said "why didn't you put em aside for me ?" He said I had to bite the bullet and not have them in the way. I live 250Km from Adelaide and usually stay for a 2 week stint, last July too cold and lot of rain
Check out Analog Planet and MIchael Fremer to hear some real statistics that support the notion that there is not going to be any bursting of any vinyl bubble.
@20:27 He's right about labels reissuing unnecessary things. You can find them at any record store in the "RSD 20xx" bin. They release a lot of shit that nobody cares about.
Matt, another great video. Your interview and reviewing skills are to good to waste on working in a record store. Keep pursuing your dream. Your on the right track.

I love your profile picture 😉

Do you live in Bay? Are there any smaller record stores you like?
im an old jazz geek and amoeba san francisco has always been my go to destination. love vinyl!!
What an awesome interview, half way through it but had to comment.
Hopefully you think the second half is just as awesome ;)

That TFFL Motley Crue poster on the back room wall! I want!
Such an awesome video man. Great interview as well. I could literally listen to you guys for 2 hours straight
I could easily get lost in that shop for a few days. One of the more enjoyable videos on the channel.
Best video yet. A series on interviewing the big shops around the country would be killer.
Thank you, David! I think I tweeted at you - you won the vinyl art giveaway! If that's not your twitter, please shoot me an email.
In that one shot of the rare records wall alone, i saw like 3 of my grail records.. i could never control myself in that store.
Welcome to my life. Send help.
Very cool behind the scenes stuff.

Yupp Carol King Tapestry is in my collection, an old beat up first pressing...that, and Rumors are in every ones collection weather you want to admit it or not.

Enjoyed your questions and his informative responses. Nicely done.
Hey, thank you!!
Long Live Amoeba!
you're putting up quality stuff lately, awesome!
Great video Matt! I came real close in going to Ameoba a few years ago. Sad that I missed the opportunity.
awesome video, very interesting. Keep up the great work!!!!
24:35 - it says "Click Analyze to Begin" if anyone's wondering
This was very well done. Really like the content you've been putting out. Also the VSQ Performs Kanye sounds excellent.
Nothing like that distinguishably subtle perpetuation of mouth breathing
Great interview! I live on the east coast, but one day I'll visit Amoeba lol.
I believe in you!
Great video! definitely on my bucket list to visit ameba records!
It's one of the wonders of the world.
excellent video! your channel has been killing it lately
We're hustling, man. Appreciate the recognition. We have a lot of awesome stuff planned this year so stay tuned.
Too Many Records I'm telling all my friends. keep it up
Super video. Great work!

Wow it was so awesome to have a look behind the scenes at Amoeba.
Gotta go there sometime - #bucketlistmaterial
It's even more of a spectacle in person!
You probably dont care but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an instagram account??
I was stupid lost my account password. I love any help you can give me!
@Darian Mohammad Instablaster ;)
@Ahmad Zayn I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and im in the hacking process now.
Seems to take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Ahmad Zayn It did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my ass !
I appreciate seeing all of the B roll. It's fascinating to see all of the behind the scenes footage of Amoeba's underbelly!
Extremely awesome interview! Haha I can't believe that buy mentioned the corey feldman viny. Anyone whom actually plays that and thinks its a masterpiece should have a family member escort them to the nearest looney bin. Very cool to see this. There are no stores like this here in CT. Maybe you should open one ;)
have an online e-store but thats it so far. But there definitely be more around here. Even for the small state it is, it should have atleast one more per county.
the store has so much history, sad about the move. gonna try to go there as much as i can this year
That production quality though 👌
All thanks to Chris. He's killing it lately.
Btw fantastic video... definitely need to stop by there next time I got to LA
Wait 10 years they"ll be rebuilding their cd collections.
James Leonard
I agree with you, people selling off their CD collections for hi res downloads, will regret it one day
I’m keeping my cds, made the mistake of selling off my vinyl and now rebuying it at 10 times the price.
2:19 I have a copy of the First Circle record :)
Why this channel is only at _15K subscribers_ *is a mystery to me.*
if you can figure it out please let me know
Something about Pete's mannerisms and way of speaking reminds me of Shepard Fairey.
Love this!!!
excellent video Matt!
Thanks Patrick!
nice video of one of my favorite stores! btw really digging the tune in the background - what song is it?
Would've liked to know why the "Amoeba" name ......
Great interview. Keep it up!
So sad that I’ll never be able to go this location again.
love this video so much matt! one day i'll make it to amoeba, wish there was one in nyc :( great work again!
NYC has a ton of great stores too! RIP Other Music but the various Academy stores are wonderful.
true, i have many great options in the city. i do miss Other Music dearly. if you are near the city anytime soon, check out Human Head Records in brooklyn, i think it's the best place in the city for records.
Oh I love Human Head too! I know the owner, Travis. I just picked up a great record from their online store.
oh that's awesome! i think he's rung me up a few times. for record store day, they have over 10,000 records for 25 cents, so i'll be there looking for gems!
Record buyers, in my experience, are either really cool and friendly or super crass.
Shobana Muratee Ikr glad tho that my best friend is one

Hoping i will be able to go to Amoeba in Oct.
You should definitely prioritize it!
Dude is a Danzig fan and Bam!... hit like button.
Ikr? Danzigs awesome and underappreciated these days
Aslo check out Slothrust and The Highstrung
How do you even manage 2500 records. I barely have 50.
Check out Analog Planet and MIchael Fremer to hear some real statistics that support the notion that there is not going to be any bursting of any vinyl bubble.
What a great dude
He really is. Hoping to do more videos with him in the future! Maybe exploring his massive collection.
Lol At wanting to be the guy from High Fidelity. With your sad bastard music (Belle and Sebastian).
Sadly that store is gone. Moved to a different location.
Favourite movie is Swamp Thing
Amoeba Haight Ashbury is also great
this guy had something to do with hydra head records
@20:27 He's right about labels reissuing unnecessary things. You can find them at any record store in the "RSD 20xx" bin. They release a lot of shit that nobody cares about.

Thank you Shane!
Matt, another great video. Your interview and reviewing skills are to good to waste on working in a record store. Keep pursuing your dream. Your on the right track.
Thank you Terry!! I don't work in a record store, but sometimes I feel like I spend 40 hours a week in them :P
I thought you mentioned in the video it would be your dream job
Good vid

That was a vinyl record!! :P
They did sell a cd for $150 a year ago though. Those things are rarer than the vinyl
Don't stack the records!!!
