@@TravelsandTravails My Pleasure. Say, is your model the Independence with the sider and longer bed area? How do you get along without another seating area like the Freedom Captain chairs? @@erickessler6094 Yes, the Independence. We put in a Lagun table (it's movable) and we move it into place when we are eating and sit on the beds. It's not super comfortable, but it's good enough. Here's a video on the Lagun Table: th-cam.com/video/LejA75BxAok/w-d-xo.html
Just be advised this is an amateur installation and should have a disclaimer saying so. The refrigerator compartment should always be isolated from the inside of the Casita. Drilling a hole on top of the compartment to run wires may let deadly fumes into the Casita when the refrigerator is running on propane.
A nice installation. I am glad it is working out well for you. 👍👍 I love VHB tape, but you have a bit more faith in it than I do. Still, it is amazing stuff and it surely is better to have fewer holes in the roof. Thanks for the video.
@@TravelsandTravailsI have some good experience with VHB and solar panels. I was going to double the length of the mounts for more VHB mounted opposite direction to yours. But if yours have been holding mounted in that direction I may skip it. I was considering getting a universal lip spoiler to go in front of the leading edge to prevent wind from lifting up the panel but I think Zamps aluminum profile provides downforce too. It’s going on a van that may see 80 mph
Great info, however I have a couple questions… In this first video you mention using VHB Tape, what product number did you use? And in this video I noticed you only used the VHB Tape but in your 10 month follow up I noticed you covered the mounting brackets in some type of white epoxy or something. So I guess my question is did the VHB Tape not really hold up?
We used eternabond over the VHB tape. We were just evacuated from our house due to fire so can’t look up the VHB tape number right now. We put the Eternabond on originally, it didn’t make it in the video during editing and that was an oversight on my ( Crystyn) part. They are hanging on great so far.
They do not have less output. But there are different sizes. Just replaced my 140 W Legacy portable with a a 100 W obsidian. The obsidian Weighs less and it’s easier to set up as a portable unit.
Hi, did you guys just use automotive type tape to put the panels up there?......how is that going? Would prefer not to drill holes to mount panels.....
Hmm... basically panels attached with glue. How has that worked out? I had thought about drilling into the sides with extension arms going up to support cross bars for panels. I do hate the idea of holes in the exterior, but not sure I trust glues.
We attached with VHB under the mounting feet and then covered with Eternabond. So far, there has been no separation. Here is the follow-up video: th-cam.com/video/BdUqz678DDg/w-d-xo.html
Also, we just saw a video showing that Zamp is now including double-sided tape with the panels for installation. Check out this video from the Fit RV: th-cam.com/video/zH8vDFclId4/w-d-xo.html
Very good video and I will order parts using your links where possible. I watched another video where the wiring from a solar panel was run thru the roof vent that goes into the closet. This appears to have two advantages over this installation. 1) being that no holes need to be drilled thru the roof and 2) that there is a 10 gauge wire in the bottom of the closet already connected to the battery eliminating the need to run an additional wire to the battery. I assume that the box with the gasket that you installed was simply a junction box? You reply will be appreciated. Thanks again for a great video
So, when the panels are made in the USA it means they are good? Why didn't you use the same 2 holes between the panels to mount both of them? One bracket on top of the other. Plus let me tell you, 90W is absolutely nothing. What do you think you can do with that? Right, nothing.
Thanks! I loved your battery and solar videos. You guys are awesome, creative & fun.
Cheers, Eric
Awe, thanks!

This is an awesome how-to video. Makes me feel like I can do this!
You can!
Excellent. Truly an outstanding how-to-do-it video. I wish all were done as well.
Thank you very much!
Thanks, great information. I will be copying your set up!
Great! Let us know how it goes.

You’re welcome. The VHB tape is still holding strong.

Well done. Why do the Obsidians have less power output from the panels than the "legacy" Zamp model?
Thanks! I’m not familiar with the legacy panels, It could be due to the size.

Where did you get a 1” forstner porcelain bit? Can’t find one anywhere.

What is the other video? I know nothing about installation so I'm curious.
How many hours do you estimate it took to do the install?
About four hours. We really love having it!
It's hard to beat the cost effectiveness of a small invertor generator.
True. It was taking up a lot of space in our small trailer.
