    Thanks for giving the Toro a second try. I’d like to avoid removing the flap in the rear and also drilling holes in my mower. With the DIY and Checkmate, that was not possible. I was glad to see the Toro worked out for you better this time.

    I remember when you did the seeding and used those seed blankets and when you had the 1 year old cake with your kids for the grass that was a while back and must say your lawn has made alot of improvements throughout the years. Are you still using the swardman in the back?

    Thank you for that teaching procedure. Because I just ordered one of them. My problem is this where did you get your sand I do not have an outside stove to put my sand in. I do have a kitchen stove but I don’t think that’s recommended. I also have a beach where I can get sand that.

    🤣😂🤣 when you turned your sprinklers on, I wondered if you did finish mowing first..
    I have the same Toro. I've been thinking of buying that striping kit of theirs. I was also thinking of somehow just rigging something up on those two small wheels. Wasn't sure what they were there for til you said something about the checkmate kit..

    Try mowing two lines wide next time so the stripes are more visible. I saw Lawn Care Nut do that, and the wider stripes definitely stand out more. I think that should help :)

    I'm so glad it wasn't my issue alone with the Honda hrx handles. I feel making this a universal kit is a big misstep as far as engineering goes. I understand why they did it but man is it cumbersome. Attaching and unattaching the roller is an enormous pain in the butt. I tried to come up with some sort of carabiner set up that would work but due to the 'length' factor of how far the roller would need to be behind the mower, you'd end up tripping yourself up if you did something like that I believe. If someone has come up with a better plan let me know. I'll likely go with a Checkmate next year.

  • @pjtozzi
    @pjtozzi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    My question is to you where did you go and get your sand at? Because I have a beach and I could just go get sand there my problem is I do not have a stove outside to dry out my sand and I do not think it’s a good idea to put it in my kitchen oven to dry out my sand.

    Do you have a preference between the checkmate or Toro striping kit? I had the checkmate and found it terribly difficult to maneuver. I mean its very well built, but just made my mower feel heavier. Great content 👍🏻. Keep up the good work!

    • @scottwoodtraining
      @scottwoodtraining 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't have a basis for comparison but this kit feels HEAVY as heck on my HRX. Even being self propelled it makes the mower significantly harder to turn. With the way it is set up it allows the roller to pivot up and down and side to side which in theory is real nice, but if you're along an edge, say with a curb, the roller wants to fall down into the gutter, or off onto the curb. I was curious how the checkmate felt so thanks for your feelings there. Is it hard to back up/turn with it?

      Both have been excellent. The Toro is definitely quieter.

    • @MICHIGANMIKE12
      @MICHIGANMIKE12 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you bag clippings in lawn bags, the honda is a hassle and not gonna fit. The Honda is also much more bulkier than Toro. If I had to do it over again, the Toro with Honda engine 190 cc would get my vote. SUPER Recycler... flat black... with bag.

  • @jonhawkins2374

      @GrassDaddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah it works pretty good. I prefer the checkmate because it's more durable but they all weigh the same and the look really makes your lawn pop.

    You should hand thread the bolt first before zapping it with a power tool. Keep from stripping out another one.

    Just a friendly recommendation, watching the entire process of you scooping sand out of a bucket and pouring it into the roller was as about as entertaining as watching paint dry. Either speed up the footage while editing or show a few seconds of doing that then move on to the next step.
