But those smash’s are not particularly suited for the Super Bowl. His style is very specific, regional, and very casually references not-so-advertiser friendly topics. And nearly all those topics. There are two things that Wayne needs to accept to help him get over this. Firstly, he has a long way to go to recover his image/reputation as a performer. He spent a lot of years giving awful performances due to lack of professionalism, being strung out on drugs, lack of preparation, and being disgruntled with his deal/situation. The NFL aren't taking any risks with performers. Secondly, there are levels to this. It is very likely that Kendrick wasn't the first person asked to perform. They likely asked Taylor and Adele again. Bands like The Foo Fighters, Metallica, etc are still on deck. Even acts like Justin Beiber, Ed Sheeran, etc that have a ton of albums the last decade are above him. He should focus on staying relative active and be the first hip-hop act they approach.

So I’m white, and I first really discovered Wayne when my roommate showed me No Ceilings. in college. It really did blew my mind how awesome his lyrics were, and it instilled an appreciation for wordplay and rhyme skill that I still have today. He’s my favorite rapper, and he has SMASH hits. But those smash’s are not particularly suited for the Super Bowl. His style is very specific, regional, and very casually references not-so-advertiser friendly topics. And nearly all those topics. Gangs, shootings, misogyny, and profanity, in a way that’s so prevalent that you can’t censor all of it while still making the song sound ok. I just can’t get the image of my super white mom watching the Super Bowl and hearing Wayne say “lick lick lick lick lick it like a lollipop!” Lol. It doesn’t work. And this isn’t even including the fact that Wayne isn’t the best at performing these songs live.

There are two things that Wayne needs to accept to help him get over this. Firstly, he has a long way to go to recover his image/reputation as a performer. He spent a lot of years giving awful performances due to lack of professionalism, being strung out on drugs, lack of preparation, and being disgruntled with his deal/situation. The NFL aren't taking any risks with performers. Secondly, there are levels to this. It is very likely that Kendrick wasn't the first person asked to perform. They likely asked Taylor and Adele again. Bands like The Foo Fighters, Metallica, etc are still on deck. Even acts like Justin Beiber, Ed Sheeran, etc that have a ton of albums the last decade are above him. He should focus on staying relative active and be the first hip-hop act they approach.
This is when you have to separate the person from the art. He being a crybaby right now but when it comes to the music he’s the man.
