Trial and error, but mostly error. I'll remember that... My drafting background (drawing sheet metal parts) goes nuts wondering where to make the cuts, what equation I need to form the bends, etc. I'm ignoring it, and going to try and jump in and just experiment as you do here with organic paper figures. I've enjoyed building vehicles with paper, and now I need to step up and learn organic forms. Thank you for sharing your process here! Time to engage that artistic side of the brain and be creative instead of seeking that perfect template for AutoCAD!
i feel u should publicize ur templates once u have successfully made a figure atleast one so that others can catch up with what are the challenges for making a new one.
1:13 what if... instead of cutting out that curved triangle and making the edges meet... why not cut one side and make them overlap? You'd be gluing it, using clear adhesive tape is optional. You can use that on the item at time reference 3:18
yeah I used to do that, but I use a card that's about twice as thick as paper, so it looks really crappy when it overlaps because it's uneven everywhere. Also, when the triangle has been cut out, then I can flip it and trace the template onto another piece of paper for the other side
OK... Then what if... when you make the edges meet... you glued an extra piece of card underneath to hold the joined edges... provides extra strength to it. Then the surface that we see will not have any shiny adhesive tape on it.
Also, I have a way to make your action figures more durable.. by using PVA Glue, Water, & Paintbrush.... you can experiment on one of your old discarded/unfinished paper action figure (PAF). (PVA= polyvinyl acetate; wood glue; white glue; Elmer's glue) 1) Disassemble the PAF into its components (like lego parts) 2) In a plastic disposable cup... mix PVA Glue & Water at 1:1 ratio and apply it like paint (inside/outside) using a paintbrush. (just avoid those moving parts /pivot points) 3) Let it dry for 2 hours, and rinse the paintbrush in water (or you'll gonna need another brush) 4) Repeat Steps 2 & 3 5) Repeat Step 2 but now with two parts glue : 1 part water... Let it dry 6) Reassemble the PAF It will be now stronger, and shinier,,, with hard plasticky texture. I used this process on my Voltes V papercraft STATUE: (since it has no movable parts,,, statue... NOT ACTION FIGURE) th-cam.com/video/LaZfv2zJuVM/w-d-xo.html You can see at 0:10 Voltes V's Right Arm and at 0:50 Left Arm shines/reflects light because of the applied glue+water mixture The colors before were pale, and got darker because of the application. I hope you find this helpful. =============================== This technique was from DALILOMO DIY / DALI DIY when I was making my Iron Man Mk42 helmet. Initially, I had to "paint" the helmet (made of ILLUSTRATION BOARD) with water to make it softer, easier to bend since the board wants to bend back to its original flat shape. since its original structural integrity of being flat is now gone, I then proceed to HARDEN the structure to its new curved (helmet) form using the PVA Glue & Water mixture. Here's his videolink regarding the procedure: th-cam.com/video/vdr12WTpgLs/w-d-xo.html
Hey PRO action figure maker buddy pls can u make these , RoboCop,God of War or the Reaper action figures plssssss ur a pro bro it's nothing for u !!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
pretty easy. draw them individually, make 2 or 3 cuts where you can fold the paper together just like I did in this video, and glue them on individually
wait this is goku it has to be ... it looks just like ur drawing on the super sayin three goku video ... I knew it had to be him ... the face eyes and shoulder totally remind me a goku ... or not ... I could be wrong lol
hahha the second one seen in this video was traced from the SS3 drawing, so I could figure out his anatomy without all the clothing and hair getting in the way.
