    Thanks guys for the video. I’ve said before, walking in Europe helped my wife and I lose 6-7lbs in a month and our health improved so quickly. We were averaging 20-25k steps a day. I’m sure the same will happen for you guys too. Thanks again for this great channel

      We're definitely hoping so :) but then again, wine and bread and tortillas and all the other great spanish food... who knows if we'll lose any lol

    We are all on out own quest in life. We may take different roads and paths. We all have a goal to find ourselves. So do what you have to do unapologetic. What makes us individuals is this. The best part for you guys is that you are on the same sheet of music. This is actually taking your relationship into a whole new level. Deeper understanding of one another. That's priceless! Hang in there your just getting started. You guys are winners!!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

    Josh I too suffer from vertigo episodes and have been hospitalized twice for it over the past few years. It’s a very frustrating thing when no one can find the cause or cure. I pray that this Camino hike finds you good health, both spiritually and physically. Blessings to you both!

    I think it really depends on what type of restaurant and what type of meal you are looking for. Some places will, like in France, will have set times for breakfast, lunch, dinner. Other places will have their own system like for example a busy Madrid tapas bar. I think the best way is to know what you want, and ask if thats possible, so ask if you can get drinks, a sandwich, full dinner etc.... Now I dont really speak Spanish myself, but with a few simple phrases I google in advance I dont encounter many issues when in Spain.
    And dont be scared off by bad temper. Unlike the US, hospitality worker in Europa dont rely on tips to get by. This will mean that staff is often more "real" , that doesnt mean the sevice is bad , just that they are less inclined to be as nice as they can all the time. Some cafe's in Paris are notorious in this regard. It comes as a shock to some Americans that a waiter can react a bit annoyed when he comes to your table and you dont know what to order yet, or dont speak French or whatever, they are just not used to that because an American waiter would never react like that because that would probably mean less tip for him.
    So it might very well be that you are doing absolutely nothing wrong, but its just a cracky employee who is less inclined to hide it because he has no financial incentive to do so.

      Thanks for the thoughtful comments and tips! Yes, we have definitely encountered different people along the way and it has been an extremely humbling and eye opening experience. We were starting to pat ourselves on the backs for our improving Spanish, but the little nuances and things we just don't understand from not living here are what trip us up. A couple of weeks in, we are starting to get the hang out it and are learning so much! And eating well :) thanks for watching and your helpful comments!

    Hi. Hopefully, everyone appreciates your purposes for walking the Camino.
    Since you hadn’t shared, I figured your reasons were personal/private. Please share as you feel comfortable.

    Hi there. I walked the Camino Frances in Sept 2019 & it was very impactful on me so I enjoy hearing of others experiences. I’m curious (as this is the only video of yours I have watched), as to why you did not stay in pilgrim hostels (albergues)? They are defo a cost saver and many equipped with kitchens or pilgrim meals including wine. Or were many closed due to COVID? I met plenty of couples who did so and also stayed in hostals or hotels now & again. Genuine question as you mentioned it was a bit expensive. Buen Camino.

    • @LisaAndJosh
      @LisaAndJosh  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Thanks for watching and for the comment. Agreed! Albergues were huge cost savers and we mixed up what kind of places we stayed in-we stayed in dorms, private rooms in hostels, and private rooms in hotels too. We found early on that many places were closed or had filled up their accommodations already (many were only a third or half capacity for COVID restrictions) and we hadn’t made reservations in advance. We had also heard that many used to have meals that came with the accommodations before, but it seems with COVID this year, this has changed. Some albergues we stayed in didn’t have meals at all, some did for 10-14€ per meal, which was more expensive than we budgeted for. We started to feel more comfortable staying in private rooms, since we weren't used to being around so many people again in such small quarters since the last year. We actually would have preferred staying mostly in hostels to meet and interact with more people, but maybe in another time. Long answer :)

      @@LisaAndJosh Ah yes that makes sense. Covid certainly has changed things. What a difference from when I walked. Thanks for replying & sharing the info as I’m hoping to walk the Camino Portuguese but maybe I’ll wait in case things change down the line.

    • @LisaAndJosh
      @LisaAndJosh  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We've heard the same from those who walked perviously! It seems planning ahead is the way to go this year, but we kinda yearn from the way things were done before (for a lot of reasons!) :)

    Weird... I never had problems eating out in Spain, might be because I'm Italian and we are very similar? Anyway, as a general rule, it's always better to learn some basic local language. I did that in Japan, OK , they didn't understand much (nor did I), but at least they were all very nice and helpful since I tried

    • @LisaAndJosh
      @LisaAndJosh  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We totally agree with you! Generally, we have been able to get by with our basic Spanish, but it's the details and string of fast words that we struggle with (and perhaps the time of day to order food!)

    Thanks for sharing ! "Why are you doing the Camino?", good question and me starting in beginning of Oktober don't have a specific answer yet. It just seemed like the right idea? I'm confident the reason will come to me during all the time there is walking :)

    • @LisaAndJosh
      @LisaAndJosh  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! That's why we started, to be honest. Then the reasons started to come as we were walking. And we bet they'll continually change as we move forward. Have a great time in October, buen camino!
