    Nice to see Sonic Chaos, Psychic World, and Asterix & Obelix get some love. Golden Axe Warrior is also great, I prefer it over the original Legend Of Zelda but that might be nostalgia bias since the Master System was way bigger in the UK back in the day.

I've been learning more about the Master System and I've really enjoyed the little that I've played so far but I keep hearing about the same games over and over (Wonder Boy, Alex Kidd, Shinobi, etc) but this list has at least 10 games I had never heard of before and I'm really excited to check them out. It's uncanny how much the music in Golvellius sounds like The Guardian Legend. I don't think it's anywhere near as good an action-adventure as TGL (which is easily a top five NES game for me), but it sure sounds amazing. That's Compile for you.

    My family was not doing so well then, so I got a Phantom System (local NES knockoff) instead, which bummed me out immensely.

    Regarding Psycho Fox I actually see DEcap Attack / Magical Hat as a regression in terms of design. Psycho Fox's levels have true multiple paths thanks to lack of reverse scrolling and way more verticality. The Mega Drive game has its main gameplay so smoothed over that it's just not as enjoyable a playthrough IMO.

    • @st1ka
      @st1ka  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's true, I did say it was an evolution mostly to simplify things. I didn't want to spend too much time into the Psycho Fox / Kid Cool / Magical Hat comparison as I was trying to keep the descriptions for each entry in the video short. Maybe evolution wasn't the best word.

    The "only one game per main franchise" rule is completely pointless and leads to many great games being automatically scrapped for no reason at all... :(

    • @st1ka
      @st1ka  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I mostly use this rule so as a way to not fill a list with sequels from the same series. It's a way to avoid having several sonic games in my Genesis list, that sort of thing ^^

    • @gurriato
      @gurriato 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The value in these lists comes from making people aware of the games. Once you know about a series you can investigate the rest on your own.

    • @mageofjapanbackup
      @mageofjapanbackup 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Besides he can just recommend the sequels with the one he picked like he did with asterix

    • @ryzmaker11
      @ryzmaker11 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @y'all: nah. the sole criteria that should be taken into consideration when doing such rankings (either it being top 10, 30 or whatever) is the *intrinsic quality of the games* and this rule goes against that
      here with a top 30, we're supposed to expect the best master system games from the 30th one to the 1st one
      with that in mind, let's take the wonder boy series. IMO Wonder Boy, Wonder Boy in Monster Land and Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap should all be included in a top 30 master system games with dragon's trap being the one I'd rank the highest I think. but if I'd apply this rule, this would mean that I should scrap and instead include worse games than both Wonder Boy and Wonder Boy in Monster Land in my top which is absolutely pointless!
      the only exception would be with games that are so similar that NOW that would be rather pointless to include them all. right now I can't think of such situation within the master system library but on mega drive for instance you have series such as FIFA with some instalments being very similar to others but even then it still depends of the series, of the games, as I could totally understand why one would include for instance both NHLPA 93 and NHL 94 in his top 30 mega drive games

    • @ryzmaker11
      @ryzmaker11 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@st1ka it's because a top 30 isn't nearly enough for the mega drive. you should have went top 100 instead ;3 and for the master system a top 50 could have been more apt. still, in any cases, I enjoyed very much your vid buddy and I can't wait for part 1 :)
