Beautiful orchid. I agree growing phals are very challenging. Incidentally, I do the same thing when mine is giving trouble. I mount them either on a tree or in coconut shell, tree fern bark. I will also try a coconut frond for a variation. Thanks for sharing there is always something new to learn. Cheers and happy growing 💕💕💕
Hello Dott, that is so nice that you literally do the same things with your phals as I do when they are giving trouble. Mounting them really saves them from dying. Yes you should try the coconut tree frond as it adds to the rustic look in the garden. I'm really happy you learnt something new. Many blessings!!🙏🥂👌💖
At a glance, I've already saved all Of those plants. From the beginning only use pine bark, plant the orchid in a plastic pot with lots of holes for water to come out, never let roots sit in water, also make holes on the side of the pots as well. This plant needs lots of air moving through the pot. Plant the plant high in the pot so when you water, tilt the pot so you won't get water on the crown. You can see right through a plastic pot. Start with these simple steps, you will see the difference very soon. Use moss on top of the plant, to keep moisture around to promote roots growth, and new spikes growth, place moss lightly, remember, great aur flow is a most. When you water let all the drain out from the bottom, all you're doing is giving the roots a little drink, they suck up enough water, and in a plastic, you can see the roots. When you see green, 👍, ok. I save so many of these babies all the time. I've just passed on to you the key to success in growing the wonderful plant. When they come to me I'm gonna save that plant one way or another, and I do, 99% of the time. 😘🌹💃
Hello Linda, thank you so much for the tips I really appreciate it. I will definitely try your method. Hello Diana, so glad you appreciate the idea. I was actually introduce to the concept by Ally K one of my supporter and I'm loving it. I think you should try growing phals again and just mount them. Hello Debbie, so sorry to hear of the problems you are having with stem rot. Phalaenopsis orchids tend to suffer a lot of fungal and bacterial issues some of which are very hard to detect at times until it is way gone. I usually use a systemic fungicide such as Ridomil which helps to prevent both crown and stem rot. However, good air circulation is key to preventing these diseases. The use of the cinnamon powder does help, but whilst you use that you should also treat with a fungicide. What I do I keep a small spray bottle with a mixture of fungicide into my Phal house and so once I spot a problem I spot treat. Growing Phals can be really frustrating, I've had my fair share. I've lost many. The key though is good air circulation which will dry off and dry out the plant quickly after watering. Best of luck. Let me know if you get better results after incorporating some of the things that works for me.

I find this very confusing doc because in the wild these plants will have water settling in the crown and no crown rot occurs, in-fact they thrive in the wild. Phals are very complicated because it has no pseudobulbs to store nutrients, it has to have proper aeration, capillary action, water, nutrients, stability and temp to thrive. I wish there were more accurate data on this orchid. But I see you’ve found a way to make them hang in there.
Honestly though I believe this phenomenon of “crown rot” is based on a nutrient deficiency. Based on the research I’ve done so far I believe it’s a deficiency in calcium. Calcium is an immobile nutrient unlike magnesium, nitrogen and phosphorus etc. So when the plant is lacking in calcium what occurs is that you’ll see die backs, leaf drop, bud blast or even crown rot. Because a deficiency in immobile nutrients is always displayed on new growth, unlike an mobile nutrient like magnesium. When orchids are any plants in general in deficient in magnesium you will see the plant pulling that nutrient (because is a mobile nutrient) from older leafs. So you’ll see your older leafs will start getting speckled (yellow and green pattern). So if you think about it calcium deficiency is more likely the problem. But you might be saying to your self “that rubbish because I feed a lot of calcium, but the thing is calcium is only absorbed by the roots at a PH of 5.8 to 5ph. What ph do you feed nutrients ? And another thing to consider too is that with organic media (like moss) when broken down as they do it will rapidly decrease your ph, so if you are feeding at 5.8 in a degraded moss media the ph will drop to 2-3ph thereby no calcium will be absorbed.

In fact it’s also important to vary your ph so your orchid get a balanced diet because different nutrients are absorbed at different ph. But at 5.8 you’ll get a little of everything. Plus we haven’t even began to consider your water quality. Hopefully your using rain water and not NWC water.
1. When u get the plant from evergrow. If it’s in moss repot immediately to the recommended media above. If your growing outside, try an inorganic media like river rock or lava rock or a mixture like me.

@@samanthabrown5043 is there a particular Cymbidium orchid your aunt is looking?
I bought 2 Phals and they are dying 😢
Oh dear, they can be very finicky. I find that they will die at the blink of an eye. They do better for me mounted or hanged. Don't throw them out, perhaps you could take them out of the pot and mount them in order to save them. Good luck. 🥂👌
