Best I've ever heard on this solo - totally natural, no valves, using only hand and embouchure to play the entire solo. The section making "Chords by humming and playing simultaneously to make the chords is quite impressive". Never able to do this solo after 40 years of periodically working on this!! Bravo Javier..you still remain the best ever!! Thanks for sharing your talent with we hornists who admire your great talent!!
@@TheBony45 You're comparing a studio recording to a live performance. You may as well be comparing it to Hermann Baumann's recording on a Geyer double. This is the only instance of a live recording, and Bonet should receive nothing but praise sans comparisons for doing it successfully.
Bravo Javi from the UK. I'm an ex horn player and that piece is a bugger with a double horn with valves, so unimaginable on a hand horn. You are a performer and it is great to watch your videos.
Hello Dear Richard. I will be in Birmingham playing a recital with piano and I will probably play there the Weber Concertino with natural horn. ¿Do you live far from there?
Hey Javier, I didn’t make Birmingham 6 years ago but wondered are you in the UK anytime this year or next? I need to watch you live. Hope you’re well 👍🏻
incredible job javier! doing this on natural horn is like biking the tour de france with one leg... yet you waltzed through the thing with grace & personality, love it! bravo maestro
I don't get why people stopped (no pun intended) writing to this level of detail once valve horns became the norm. You'd think being able to play any note open, and most of them stopped, would make the technique more popular. I mean you see ° and ⁺ over notes fairly frequently (enough so that B♭ horns, which hand-stop up 1 and a half semitones, use the thumb for a specialized valve), but usually it's a series of notes using the same stopping or a gradually changing stopping. No more rapid leaps between wide open and fully choked -- a difficult effect to handle well, but when it _is_ handled well it sounds amazing. Of course, the horn became much more versatile with valves. I certainly wouldn't want to go back to a time without them. But it is possible to do a lot of this on valved horns too, and not completely lose the "wildness" when you want it.
GRANDE JAVI!
Beautifully played, and quite honestly, better performed than everyone else who has recorded this on a double or triple horn. Incredible phrasing; just beautifully performed music. Thank you!!
Certainly is a pleasure to hear Mr. Bonet or anyone who plays natural horn so well. Used to love hearing Lowell Greer play and hear him speak of the history of the instrument. I wish Mr. Bonet would tour the U.S. with the major U. S. orchestras. I'm curious if this is a reproduction horn? The wrap looks a bit like an Uhlman. It does appear that it sounds pretty easily. Of course it's his skill making it difficult to know on a video. 😮 His hand technique is flawless.
Too many incredible details to mention everything, but I will comment what no one else has yet. Audience, do you notice the circular breathing? 1:18 is a good example. What absolute mastery!

AS a horn player myself for many years this was THE nightmare piece to play As students always focus on the high notes he missed every one of them but who cares!
he missed the high D#, and also very slightly split a high A during the concert C major section earlier in the piece, but no others.. his high notes are solid!
Was this concertino really originaly intended for nature horn? In the von Weber time were horns with valves already invented, weren't they? (Anyway Javier, you are a devil , devilishly good player ... :D :o . I cannot imagine playing even Mozart concerts on the nature horn...)
Concertino was written in his first version in 1806, the second version a few years later, and valves were invented in 1815/1820. It´s clearly for natural horn
@@javierbonethorn Also, valves didn't immediately become mandatory on horn the way they did on trumpets and cornets and the like, because horns had already been partially freed from the shackles of being "brass timpani".
@@Arturhorn69 (sorry don't have russian keyboard) Weber wrote this piece for natural horn. therefore saying that playing solo on natural horn is "borsch" is just wrong.

@@Arturhorn69 I don't agree, sorry. There were few composers who wrote music with the intention of people building instruments especially for their music (think Wagner, with his contrabass trombones and Wagnertuben, or Strauss, with his heckelphone to Low F).
