Giovanni Punto born Jan Václav Stich (September 28, 1746 in Žehušice, Bohemia - February 16, 1803 in Prague, Bohemia) was a Czech horn player (more correctly, he played the cor basse) and a pioneer of the hand-stopping technique which allows natural horns to play a greater number of notes.
He was an international celebrity in the 18th and early 19th centuries, known in London, Paris, and throughout Germany. - เพลง

Never heard of Punto, have now, and will definite listen again.
I remember seeing Tuckwell and Baumann live. Never thought someone like Baborak would show up. Nothing but smiles over here. Thank you God for good mics, hi-fidelity recordings, and the internet.
No video, but still wonderful to listen to. He certainly gets around the horn effortlessly. As a horn player, I’d LOVED to see as well as hear this performance. Bravo!

Этот концерт пожалуй лучше не съиграть. Очень много мелкого непривычного материала, музыканту удалось собрать из великолепных фрагментов одну прекрасную картину. Его можно слушать бесконечно.

Po bratrech Tylšarových, což byli excelentní hornisté České filharmonie, obzvlášť Zdeněk byl famózní, s v Radku Baborákovi zrodil další excelentní hornista světové úrovně. Už jsem viděl víc jeho koncertu viděl a slyšel více koncertu a je opravdu famózní
For me...it's Barry Tuckwell anytime...have you heard him on those pieces...I knew him back in 1964...kept in touch up to before his death in Jan last year...

Tuckwell recorded these Concertos years ago before he passed away in January 2020....available on the EMI label... 1964 was the year I got to be acquainted with the Great Virtuoso...That said...R.I

I feel the magical connection of the 18th sentury great horn player composition with another great horn player 230 yars later. I thing this is the best source also for historians how the artistst rally played before the recordings...
+Sasa Whare I too enjoyed this technically and musically superb performance, but I am sure that Punto would have played it totally different. Just think of how different the natural horn (Punto was in fact the first travelling natural horn virtuoso) is compared to our modern valve horns. The technically superior modern horn alone guarantees for an entirely different character. Especially the lower parts of the cadenza are unplayable on the natural horn.
I think Punto played this only technically different (due to different instrument), and he did not play the same cadenca, but that is not so important. I bet, the patience, tempo and musical expression , played by Punto, were moreless the same.
I shall never forget playing this with the Nederlands Kamer Orkest in the Concertgebouw in the late '70s. Antonio Ros Marba conducting. Isn't life a thrill...when you Go For It..!!!

Radek Baborak is a great horn player. Wonder if anyone of you have heard Barry Tuckwell in the same Concerto. I got to know the Great Virtuoso back in 1964who is now 85 and is living in Melbourne, Australia. Listen to Tuckwell's performance and be marvelled by his virtuosity,
Back in ´64 I believe we were all still listening to the great Dennis Brain !
