Fun fact: the version of the Imperial March at 2:45 was supposed to be in the movie when it cuts to the imperial fleet in space, but they ended up replacing it with the concert version.
@@jasonjansen9831 Not really. Movie/concert version has blatantly more power/anger/fury behind it. Far more fitting the Empire and Vader wanting revenge following Death Star destruction.
@@jasonjansen9831 Too slow and (ironically given movie version is supposed to be concert version) too orchestral. Doesn't fit with scene as movie version does. Especially underwhelming in comparison is initial build up, the first scene where star destroyer moves into screen from top (great cinematography, as viewer thinks it will be repeat of New Hope opening, yet it's a bottom of ship bridge, showcasing how enormous star destroyers are) the music while already strong, didn't reach it's maximum. In contrast, this version basically starts from top, killing the tension and build up.
It's amazing to listen to the complete soundtrack which has loads of songs that went unused in the film. I remember hearing them over and over in Dark Forces 2 and wondering what movie they were originally from
I honestly picture a nuclear explosion and the aftereffects whenever I hear this track. John Williams is so great that this music can suit pretty much anything.
I had no idea that the movie version was not the one on the soundtrack cassette I ordered. I was kind of disappointed that I might've gotten the wrong one, but now that I know this is actually the original version, I'm not upset at all. Yes, I did order a cassette in 2022, and I'm buying records and more cassettes too. I'm a 20yo old timer. 😅
If you listen carefully John Williams blends snippets of the Imperial March in prior tracks leading up to these scenes, but this is when you hear it quite plainly when associated with Darth Vadar.
As Devin alluded to, the track "The Ice Planet Hoth," immediately following the opening crawl, contains a couple of subtle statements of the march. Though a good portion of that track was cut from the final film, the film does still expose viewers to a quiet statement of the march when the probe droid is originally dispatched and crashes through Hoth's atmosphere. But yes, this is the first major statement. (Notice that, in the film version, like in the concert arrangement, that brutal, metallic horn reverberation/counterpoint in the march is replaced by less-awesome strings.)
David Daspit 0:08 is the first time in the whole film when that melody is played. Even though there are earlier tracks with it, this music is in the first part of the film.
Oh please. Star Wars was absolute garbage from the mid 90s through to the early 2010s. Star Wars is currently the best it's been in the 30 years since the original trilogy ended.
