I think that all art created is valuable, whether it's privately liked or publicly admired. Some artists' work, such as Richard Serra's, are memorialized through public permanent collections, while quieter works are cherished by I ownership. To me, it's all valuable and wonderful, for how can creating be anything but life enhancing. What a coincidence that I came upon your invigorating video because I'm thinking of buying a book on Serra's drawings titled Richard Serra Drawing: A Retrospective. Saw a great show of this wonderful artist at The Museum of Modern Art (NYC) a number of years ago, 2 "ginormus" steel sculptures in two adjacent rooms. Kudos to the people who installed them. Weaving in and out and around these maze-like structures was exciting and disorienting at the same time. I think you captured the spirit and intent of a Richard Serra Drawing. I walked a few times through one of his sculptures and indeed disorienting but in a gentle way, like telling to let go of your control. I love him for making artwork like that. His drawings have similar effect on me. Almost teasing to let go of all your ideas about drawing. Wonderful. Hi James, no I don't have a specific style but in art school we could always tell which one was made by who. So the others could tell, but I can't. I hear this all the time that people want to have a style. I think it will be visible over time when you keep doing what you love, you will narrow it down. If I would paint today I would play around with acrylics, let myself be surprised by what would be revealed, disappearing in the process without thinking of a video. Does this answer your question? And btw, I think you should frame all those drawings as one large piece of art and hang it on your wall. I could look at that collection forever.

And thanks for the tip of framing it but I don't think the rest of the family will approve or appreciate the idea. But I do see your point. It really is worth looking at for a longer period of time. Hi Albert. I very much enjoyed this demo and approved/liked all your observations. They boil down to a couple of phrases you and I discussed. A) There are no rules, or...learn the rules, then break them. B) Always be yourself. In my brief time at art school, we did a lot of the sort of experiments in your demo. We made our own pens and brushes from whatever came to hand. I still have a few of my scribbles. Looking back, I can say that I made some pleasing marks, even though I didn't really make any art. I think I will have a go at this myself. Thank you.

It will always work, like camping out and leaving your forks and knives at home, discovering that a spoon will do fine. Hi Serece, interesting. I have a few pieces on the wall, the rest is on a growing pile. A lot of the paintings I make for my videos are actually sketches to show ideas, to show options or ways of working based upon art by other artists or things I see around me. The purpose of the videos is to inspire you to make your art. Don't hesitate, don't think, just do. Albert
Nice video. Even the metal structures had a patina on them that somewhat mimicked his drawn artwork. I used to think drawings were things made with pencil, but over the years that has changed, and I guess it all depends on the artist's intent perhaps? Either way I enjoyed the experimentation of your video and getting one to think out of the box.

Hello Albrt. I was wondering if you thought it was worth doing a demo on Hans Hartung's art? He was quite a man, see his Wikipedia entry. I know some people describe his work as scribbles but the more I look at his work, the more I like it.

I had not seen the video, I've just watched it and will do so again. Thank you. I'd never expect someone like him to have been in the Foreign Legion, lose a leg, get decorated for valour and become an artist. It's amazing. Mind you, I had a friend who was a monk, now passed away. He used to be a miner and a very hard, aggressive man. Then became a monk. My God father was a monk too. He had been a navy diver, jumped ship and led a life I shall not repeat here. He was so lovely, kind and gentle and self-sacrificing. After 40 years, I still miss him. People can be so incredible and inspiring.

Especially when people take a different path in life they are often very interesting to know, as a person but also because they show a differently viewpoint on life or way of living.
