Wow! This list really opened my eyes. I cannot believe how many diverse and high quality single player games this year. Titles (overall) over the last few years, with some notable exceptions of course, have tended, for me at least, to feel a bit stale. I can only put so many hundreds of hours into Elden Ring (although this year it is Baldur's Gate 3 couch-co-op with my wife). But, this year, I've played less than half the titles you have mentioned, and my backlog is growing now thanks to seeing some titles in your video I've never heard of. So glad to see Dave the Diver, that if it wasn't for BG3, would be my GOTY.

One of the best single player experiences this year has to be Star Ocean: The Second Story R. A fantastic return to possibly the most popular and requested game in the Star Ocean RPG franchise. Massive overhaul to the battle system, world map, graphics and even town and dungeon layouts! Newly arranged soundtrack, the addition of a New Game + mode and brand new endings to boot. It's easily worthy of recognition and hopefully shines a bright light towards the series for possible future attention to some other titles that could use a nice polishing.

Not usually into the more experience based games like this, but the style and low price point caught my attention (also prefer the climbing and adventuring in Uncharted to the combat and that's the easiest comparison) and I loved every second of it. Armored Core 6 wasn't the biggest game of 2023 but it was the one i looked forward to the most. A great return to their origin for FromSoftware. Wonder if they'll make a stand-alone-expansion for AC6 like Armored Core 4 Answer?

It was only mildly popular, but it definitely deserves to be in the GOTY discussions. This isnt some niche mech-building game, its an incredible action game for almost anyone watching this kind of channel. It starts off very slow and is amazing at easing you into playing this game however you want, even if you only want to tinker a little bit and not do it too often
Also Jake really undersold the story in the game (he may not have finished it?..), its one of FromSoft's best, especially when it has such interesting characters without even showing faces the whole game. You dont need to read tons of lore, game's story is 85% told through the in-game dialogue while youre shooting things and in intermission cutscenes. Nearly every game above it in this list doesnt have a story as good as Armored Core VI
Also probably has some of the best gaming moments of the year with the Ice Worm and final boss of the last ending. This game is exactly what "they dont make games like they used to" gamers from the PS2 era talk about, while still feeling very modern. Just incredible this and Elden Ring have come out in like a 16month span, it somehow tops Insomniac's crazy workload

So many good games I haven’t played. Don’t have the same free time I used to 😅.
I played about 100 hours of Starfield, I loved it at the beginning, but after finding the same planet with same structures and enemies it got boring. It’s conflicting, sometimes it even felt like playing firefly!!

FF16 and Resident Evil 4 are definitely my games of the year
Playing Jedi Surviver right now, had to get and play Fallen Order when it was on sale. But digging the Soulslike style.
