Brilliant may be good at it, but for most people I would recommend Kerbal Space Program. You can learn all about orbits and much more. Its a scaled-down version of real solar system (although with mods you can get the real deal). Its really fun, and you can make your own rockets and satellites to learn about space travel. I love it and Im addicted to it, but be warned its not easy!
Hey Thomas, haha we have all been there! I suggest you watch Scott Manley and Matt Lowne's videos. Specially Matt's channel is awesome! Space travel is NOT easy, but it is easier in KSP. You can also download their crafts just to get an idea. Real fun is building your own crafts. These guys have been playing this game ever since it was released and they are awesome at it. I have landed my sstos (Mk2 with 4 rapiers and 2 nervs and Mk3 with a lot more, but in similar ratios) on every planet except for EVE, but I do have space stations and refuelling stations around the orbits of every planet. If you did a successful Mun landing, next step would be Duna! Go for a traditional rocket approach at first with parachutes for landing. As you keep playing and making orbit, something inside your brain will just click on and it starts to make a lot of sense! They have made the game JUST hard enough and JUST easy enough IMHO.
Thomas Wijgerse Sorry buddy, I guess you are playing with real scale mods!! Thats a pretty good achievement if so!! I am barely making orbit using RSS mods.. I tip my cap to you good Sir!!
7:05 I can actually provide some insight into this, SSL commissioned me to help in creating these acoustic simulations. There are logistical challenges in creating these sound profiles, most notably creating something loud and accurate enough. It sounds easy, just make loud noise, but you can't just use any noise, you have to properly recreate the real noise of the launch - otherwise the test is useless. You also can't just record and play back the noise, since no microphone can survive the insane noise levels generated by the rocket. These sound waves create a noise so incredible it has only, to my knowledge, been reproduced once, in a technology dubbed MMT. What I did for MMT was use advanced computer simulation and synthesis to recreate every aspect of the launch, most notably the fire spitting out the back of the rocket, to create a replica of what the satellite experiences during launch. MMT is currently in the 'consideration' phase my SSL, the only thing they have left to test is whether or not their acoustic facility can handle My Mix Tape.
I'm skeptical, mostly because of your " no microphone can survive the insane noise levels generated by the rocket" statement. Microphonics is a quality of so many electronic systems you would have to go out of your way NOT to record the noise. There are many ways a high SPL mic could be created as well. Also sound travels so you can remotely mic with parabolic dishes. Just doesnt sound right.
“Blue pumpkin”! Love it! My dad did thermo-vacuum testing on the Apollo LM (Lunar Module); same type of thing: monster vacuum chamber where you blast it with radiated heat.

I work for a small company and we have a small machine shop and 2 lasers that do hermetic welding for SSL housings. I personally have do drive their finished housings to a gate that is between SSL buildings 2 and 3, right next to the sign that you feature in your video. SSL wants us to deliver the parts personal because by the time a housing has been hermetically sealed they are worth close to $100,000 a piece and are wrapped in so much anti static packaging that if an EMP went off for example the electronics inside the parts would not be affected. Cool stuff and great video as always.

great show, y'all. here we see just a hint of the care and attention required for a comsat to work for 15 years 22,000 miles above earth. some propellant valves are cycled 40,000+ times before even being mounted on the apogee thruster
Yes!!! Thank you so much. I need a satellite and have the hundreds of millions of dollars...I just didn't know the process. Especially, which company to call. This has been so helpful. Thank you.
Great video! But keep in mind that not every vehicle which is being tested will actually go into orbit. Some manufacturer is building satellite "mockups" for testing each different subsystem. Some are building just a protoflight model to verify that everything is working. Every strategy has it ups and downs and then there is spacex with their rapid prototyping approach, which is super effective but super costly.
Where did you find out how many Satellites are orbiting earth google says ~1,100 working ones and ~ 2,600 old ones . Just curious where you found out your number 😃 great video as always
Technically whatever orbiting the earth is a satellite of the earth. So if a satellite breaks apart in its orbit without anything falling down, we technically get a few hundred (or thousand) more satellites orbiting the earth.
Such companies don't really need marketing . This is because the set of customers to reach is pretty narrow and all the potential customers are big companies who research all companies before signing contracts.

If I had the money to purchase a satellite and to rent a rocket and launch pad could I personally (without running a company) own and run a satellite assuming I had the technical know-how?
Well, I'm guessing you would have to submit your satellites design to the government for them to approve an orbit. Tiny cubesats probably don't require permission except for launch.
Yes, technically you could. On a more realistic note, since there are some individual entrepreneurs running huge businesses, it is totally feasible for a natural person to even own a fleet of large satellites.
+jja77a I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of that regulatory stuff is handled by the companies you contract to design, build and launch the satellite for you as part of the service package or at least I would expect such services would be available from them for the right price. At least most other builders of products that require regulatory approval to be built or used will have that service available such as firms that design and build aircraft, ships, buildings etc for their customers.

May I get clarity on a few questions? - What if the satellite is damaged during launch, ie. not functioning normally? What happens then? Can it be repaired? What are the different options? (send it back to earth, use whatever systems are operating, other?) - If the service life of the satellite is 15 years, how do they decommission it afterwards? Does it just float in space for eternity or is it guided back to earth (how do they guide it) Does it just disintegrate in upper atmosphere? - Who gets to pay the bill for the damage? SSL, the service provider or the carrier (spaceX or others) I imagine there would be some sort of an insurance company involved.
No, it still looks weird, and it's still correct. It's correct because the word 'dollar' is right there in front of the '100 million'. And it looks weird because I don't immediately think of the tokens (100, million) as more tightly-bound than the tokens ($, 100).
I didn't see it before it was changed, but 'an $100 million satellite' would not be correct. Whether you read it as 'hundred million dollar' or 'one hundred million dollar', it starts with a consonant sound, so takes 'a' not 'an'. If you speak a variety of English that doesn't pronounce initial 'h' (for example Cockney), then you might say "an 'undred million dollar satellite", but I don't think many would write it unless they were specifically trying to render the Cockney pronunciation in writing. I suppose some people in colloquial speech might also say "an a hundred million dollar satellite" - 'a hundred million dollar' being the adjectival expression, and 'an' being the indefinite article - but again, I don't think many would write it this way, at least not as a title of a video for an international audience on TH-cam. So, yeah... just 'a' is good.
In a sense we already know everything in this video, but the explanation of the process from start to finish was kind of surprising. It is astonishing the sorts of things that people with profound competencies are doing everyday, and that have become the unconsidered background of our lives.
You cannot afford it. But you can use it and wonder about how it was done and what the steps behind are. Kind of like you will almost for sure never buy a 747 but you can still fly on them and send parcels around the world for very little money ;)

- Who gets to pay the bill for the damage? SSL, the service provider or the carrier (spaceX or others) I imagine there would be some sort of an insurance company involved.
9:57 For the love of god, please use metric! Who the hell knows what 15,600 pounds is?
Nilguiri I do
The videos here just get better and more professional. Really impressive
Even though the title is grammatically correct, it still sounds weird when I read it
I was talking about how it read "How to Build AN $100 Million Satellite" but he changed it to "A" instead of "An" so we're okay now
No, it still looks weird, and it's still correct. It's correct because the word 'dollar' is right there in front of the '100 million'. And it looks weird because I don't immediately think of the tokens (100, million) as more tightly-bound than the tokens ($, 100).
@@EappleSandbox same I kinda read it with a "an"
I didn't see it before it was changed, but 'an $100 million satellite' would not be correct.
Hookt on fonix worx for U?

How to Build _a_ $100 Million Satellite
How to Build a $100 Million Satellite
That was...beautiful. Thank you. More!
step 1: take 100M$
step 2: buy a satellite
In a sense we already know everything in this video, but the explanation of the process from start to finish was kind of surprising.
It is astonishing the sorts of things that people with profound competencies are doing everyday, and that have become the unconsidered background of our lives.
“How to build a satellite in which you almost definitely can’t afford so this video is basically useless anyways”
You cannot afford it. But you can use it and wonder about how it was done and what the steps behind are. Kind of like you will almost for sure never buy a 747 but you can still fly on them and send parcels around the world for very little money ;)
This is very useful for me soon
Brilliant, loved the video. Thanks
I dont have money 😥
Shoosh... OMG Get a Job or start the Self Employment by yourself and after achieving your goal Buy a Satellite and Get the F::::: Outta this Earth and Feel the Natures Power :)
work you lazy sun uf a bitch XD
working not the answer i work and still have no money
And the aerospace engineer...
I really like what you create. You have talent!
Why does the vehicle driver have to be oversized
Just finished watching the traffic jam video, and now this is uploaded. Hell yeah 😎
yes but can you melt obsidian
Great video, have always wondered what went into building a satellite.
Who else expected the truck at 8:36 to roll out a ramp and the car behind drive up, like the classic Spy Hunter game?
*An?*
A
ah, he fixed it. nice 👍
Nice Job Wendover!
I’m early, lemme think of a joke...
Nah, I’m too lazy.
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA
pretty much how it always goes for me
There once was a man from Rangoon
Thought he could fart his way to the moon
But he flopped as a rocket
And shit in his pocket
And died in a rectal typhoon
Sad life
Great comment
