  • In this video I discuss how to multitrack record your live worship services, and then use those tracks for virtual sound check. You can use Waves Tracks Live, or Reaper as cheap, effective ways to record and playback your multitracks.
    The network switch I recommend for Dante is:
    Cisco SG-300: amzn.to/2oCjLPU
    x-Dante Card for X-32 Mixer: go.magik.ly/ml/8fxz/

    for those using Dante, a few words of advice. 1. turn off wireless anything on a laptop. Also, 2. make sure that ALL your devices are working using the Dante Clock. For example, in your digital mixer (like the Allen Heath Dlive) set the preferences to use the dante option card for clock or timing source. That should fix the "static" issues described in the comments.

    How to ensure the audio playback is same volume as when you originally recorded it? So that you don’t need to repeat gain staging. Thanks

    Do you have an in-depth video of doing the Virtual Sound Check with your Church or event location? By the way excellent video ... I like this combination of Reaper and Dante

    Great video. I do have a question what storage are you using for record? im trying to record 40+ tracks using the same method and the Nuendo keeps giving me a warning message that there are too many tracks. Im trying to figure out where the bottleneck is.

      I record to an external SSD drive over USB3. It's a Lacie Rugged 256GB SSD drive. Haven't had issues with 128 tracks in Reaper.

      aha, I've been using a thunderbolt mechanical hard drive. could very well be the mechanical hard drive bottle-necking the system. Thanks!

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Especially if its a 5400rpm hard drive, that for sure is your bottle neck. Thunderbolt interface is plenty fast enough, but the drive itself probably can't sustain the data rate needed.

    I would like to ask!
    I'm looking at the dante card from A&H!
    Am I able to connect the dante card from the A&H console to say a yamaha dante port (console) and send audio to a rio rack for iem mixes? or is it even possible to connect to a rio rack directly if the festival I'm going to doesnt have a A&H stagebox.

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dante is a standard protocol, so any Dante device cnd route audio to any other Dante device. You just configure the routing through the Dante Controller program that you run on a computer that is also connected to the Dante network. (Once things are routed you don't need the computer connected anymore.) So, if you are sending audio from an A&H board through Dante, you would route an output from your A&H to the Dante card, then route the audio on the Dante network from the A&H Card to the Yamaha Dante Port input. Then on the Yamaha you would need to treat that like any other input and route it through your board, sending it on to the rio rack. While Dante is a standard protocol, Yamaha also sends "control information" over that network cable to control the pre-amps of the rio box, and that is proprietary to Yamaha. So while theoretically you could send audio from a rio rack to any Dante device, you wouldn't have control of the preamps without a Yamaha board connected.

      Ballast Media right! Understand! I understand that there’s a longer latency issue based on what I heard from the industry peeps here locally for me. I’ve been a Midas pro guy for a couple of years and haven’t gone on to dante protocol since the dawn of my career(quite surprising!)
      If I send iem mixes via dante from A&H to a Yamaha console then through to the rio rack or a Yamaha dante stagebox. Will there a crazy latency issue for IEMs? Having the SQ-5 clocking at 96K.

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really don't know. Usually most people would approach it the other way. Use your "monitor" desk as your main point of input (eg connect everything to your rio rack as inputs) and use that to drive your IEMs, then use Dante to split everything out to Front of House, since FOH has the most tolerance for any latency.

      Ballast Media yeah that’s the usual case! The only reason I ask is because the SQ5 is the main console for a band that I’m touring with. And it’s both FOH and Mons console. Trying to figure what works best.

      Works best at least in a festival.

    how to multi-channel record on the gld-80 on a flash drive?

    Thanks for the video. Quick question: How can I playback what I recorded through my computer? The only way I can hear the audio is to export the recording, then open the saved file and play it from there. I am not able to hear audio through my computer by hitting the play button directly from the Waves Tracks Live software. Thanks.

    How do you change the settings on the sound board to record on the laptop? Allen & Heath SQ6

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Victoria Taylor If you ware wanting to record multi-tracks you'll need an interface in your expansion slot (like Dante) to route your channels to. Then route the direct outs of each channel to the I/O card.

    • @victoriataylor8364
      @victoriataylor8364 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      so I got Tracks Live to recognize my board as an interface just by plugging it in with a USB cable and downloading the drivers, skipped the Dante step. Does this still work? What's an I/O card? What does I/O mean? haha!

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, so if you are using the USB, you should be able to route the direct outs from your channels to that interface. (Never mind the I/O card! I/O = input/output) Not exactly sure how the SQ is setup to do this, but look in the routing page.

    Hi, I have my dLive but whenever I playback a multitrack sounds choppy. What can I do?

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Luis Peña lots of potential causes. First what hard drive are you using? Can it sustain the datarate needed? Second is your Dante configured right? What switch are you using and have you configured it for Dante?

  • @joshpike7497

    I am using dante to run to Reaper (using a dlive). The problem I'm having is that when I go to playback it sounds delayed and digital sounding. The only way I can resolve that issue is by unpatching the receiver from the transmitter, but that's exhausting having to do that for 64 channels. Is there a better way to set this up so I don't have to unpatch all the time?

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, I'd have to know more about your setup and what you are doing to really determine what's going on. Sounds to me like something isn't patched or setup right

    Would like to ask you a question just recently bought server one combo by waves for my Yamaha mixers now I got it installed just getting like a static sound on the channel that's getting the signal that's one thing and 2 can I use the yg 16 card to use tracks live to record and use virtual sound check?

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jose Morales sounds like maybe a clock issue, mismatch between your board, card or waves server. Make sure your board clock and waves are at the same rate. Yes, you should be able to use the card and waves tracks live to do virtual sound check - just a matter of getting the routing right.

      Thanks for the quick reply. On the audinate website dante controller is a free software download whereas dante virtual soundcard is not... I want to use my computer for multitrack recording from a digital mixer for the sole purpose of feeding it back into a digital mixer on a later date for extra mixing.
