How to setup block and tackle with cheap hardware store pulleys and rope

  • How I use paracord, 3/8” pulleys and 100’ 3/8” rope from hardware store, Home Depot or Lowe’s, to rig a block and tackle system. This cheap DIY option allows me to load my trailer with heavy, non-operating equipment requiring transport for repairs.

    The weakest link might be the 2 zip ties per pulley lol

    😂 Of course plastic zip-tie will break. 😂

    It would have made more sense for both of you to pull on the rope. Its literally the whole point of having the pulley system - to have a mechanical advantage. The person actually pushing on the cart has no advantage

      if sense was involved they wouldn't have done it to start with. A perfect video for what not to do

      Think Safety what’s unsafe?

      @CL-cq1hi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Safety? Ramp board with no cleats to stop from sliding in the dirt or off the trailer. Safety? No brake system to stop cart from rolling over you son if the pulley system fails. Either your 100% OSHA ( hard hat, reinforce toe boot, safety glasses, work gloves) OR YOUR NOT.

    Should’ve set it up to where they were pulling the rope in the golf cart direction of travel. That would have reduced effort by an additional 20%

      Indeed. That is why it is called “rove to advantage”.

    I was a rigger for 10 years and used pulley systems all the time. We never used plastic zip ties. I wonder why?

    With zip ties , nice!

    Spend 1/2 hr. looking up 'Z-rig' compound pulley system on You tube, watch how they use 2 Z-rigs as a complex system, you lay it out on the ground for practice, Pretty simple if you paid attention to a couple of You Tube videos. With 2 pulleys and 2 prussik knots you get a 3 to 1 advantage. Next apply a 2nd Z-rig set-up to pull on the first Z-rig tail, changes system from a 'compound pulley' set up (1 z-rig) to a 9 to 1 advantage 'complex pulley' system. And do your pulling from the front of your trailer load! Try to be safe please. This will cost you maybe an hour or 3 researching, practicing the knots, actually setting it up and completing the job. You already have the 4 pulleys and the rope, and the second use will come much easier.

    I see that you had an abundance of rope. So, why didn't you just use a little rope instead of using zip ties?

    Better off buying a 12 pack and getting your neighbor to help you push it.

    The pulley's swivel!

      Right! Just spin it and weak zip ties. Spread pullys thinking it is going to go straight. Really? All I saw was more work for them selves.

  • @Sn1peralex

    I paused when I saw the zip ties. Was I right to?

    You had 4 pulleys! You could have rigged a 9:1 complex system having two of the pulleys traveling.

  • @SignedSign
    @SignedSign 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Now you only got a 4:1 system, if you had tied the end you were pulling from to the clubcar and pulled with the rope you tied to the trailer instead, then you would of gotten a 5:1 system and reduced the effort to pull it up even more.
    Oh yeah.. zip-ties.. no good lol

    I don’t mean to harsh on you. It was interesting, but not something ai would do or recommend. More of a ‘look what we pulled off’ than a ‘how to’. But hey, we’ve all done, stuff like that.

    That was terrible. Zip ties? LOL
