OMG!!!! Sir, you have the BEST step-by-step tutorial I have ever seen anywhere. I got your books, Cisco Router/Linux Server Step-By-Step Configuration Guide and Cisco ASA Accidental Administrator, through Kindle. I wished I had these books before the many interviews I bombed. But anyways, I will be well prepare for the next interviews. Thanks Mr. Crawley!!!
You're right. Thanks for the comment. I just uploaded a new video showing how to backup and restore in the command-line. TH-cam won't let me put a link in a comment, but you should be able to find it easily on the channel. Next, I'll work on another video showing how to do backups and restores in the GUI. I'll add another comment when it's ready.
Great question. On the 1941 router in the demo running IOS ver 15.x, if the interfaces are connected to a network, they are enabled by default. If they're not connected to a network, they are administratively down by default. That behavior seems to vary by router model and/or IOS version. For example, I also tested it on an 871 running IOS ver 12.x and its interfaces came up enable, even when disconnected. Thanks for the comment.
You may want to consider purchasing a Cisco SMARTNet service contract or hiring a consultant to help. Cisco IOS-based routers, such as the 2801, can be very difficult to configure. This video is designed to help you build the most basic of configurations in a lab environment. It is not intended to help you connect to the public Internet. Check with your Cisco reseller or visit the Cisco website for info about SMARTNet service contracts.
Thanks. I also noticed from the video that while in CLI after running setup mode the interface that was not configured was admin down even though it still had network connectivity. So it appears the status differ depending on whether the router is in setup mode or CLI.
I am seeing some major differences in the interface summary section. Typically a for a cisco router the interfaces have to be explicitly turned up with the no shutdown command. I notice here that two of your interfaces are up from the get go. Can you shed some light on this please.
I have went thru the video several times and on my router a 1921 model, the port will never get assigned an IP address, when connected. The port always shows IP address unassigned Method DHCP and status up and protocol up. is there some other command needed?
Nice video, but for some reason, after I erased the config on my 860VAE router and reloaded it, the startup guide like you showed is not showing up for me. Any thoughts ?
Whats the isbn for your book? You seem to explain without all the crap ALL the other books throw in there and i can understand it. So if you could give me that isbn # and author ? you would be the best.
I tried Putty with two different USB to serial converters, on 4 different computers (Two with XP and two with Windows 7) and I kept getting BSOD's as well. I was able to cure the Blue's by changing to Tera Term
you did need the cable driver which translate the USB to Rj45(pin) and also create serial com port 4 listing in Device manager , then you can set putty to serial and setup to com4
