    Wonderful work as always. Personally, I prefer longer focal lengths for street/candid photography. With wider focal lengths, I have often seen people reacting to me taking their pictures. I'd rather they went on with their lives ignoring me, the observer. As they say, you can't observe anything without changing it. With this focal length, you can reduce it to a great extent though

    • @KebsCayabyab
      @KebsCayabyab  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! That was what I was expecting. My experience was different, I attracted more attention when I used this lens (probably because of the size). Another adjustment was I used to observe at a certain distance and with this lens I have to look far than I used too. I totally agree with becoming an observer with this focal length, though it has a "detached" feeling that I cannot explain yet. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! 🙏

    Finally, the perfect video to make me pull the trigger on this lens for my xt4, I find it far more beneficial to see what the lens can do in real life situations than to be told about how good it is!! Great video 👍

    Saul Leiter is the man! Your approach of learning from great exemplars and trying to apply elements of their style is a great way to grow quickly as a street photographer (or as a photographer in general). Keep it up!

    Stumbled upon this video by just searching for saul leiter video's. This is fantastic man! I really want to try this type of street photography; less 'in your face' and intrusive than for example 35mm. Keep up the good work!!

    • @KebsCayabyab
      @KebsCayabyab  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Bob! I think 'this style' works better for other people, there are some who enjoys this way more than using a wide angle and being in close proximity to subjects.

  • @MikeKleinsteuber
    @MikeKleinsteuber 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice idea and good try. Shows how difficult it is to get a great image and don't forget that in many cases the subject of Leiter's images were the bits that were out of focus...

  • @JayRegular

    Saul Leiter is an amazing photographer and his style and approach could be considered easy to pick up and learn as telephoto is a great way to keep distance and not cause too much conflict. But it definitely takes a lot more time and development to be able to 'see' and create great photos. That was a great shot at 2:29 i love the capture of movement and great position of the skater at the intersect of the yellow lines!

    • @KebsCayabyab
      @KebsCayabyab  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, exactly! Your general orientation on the streets changes. If you're looking for action, you have to look far. If you're looking for aesthetics, you have to look at the viewfinder more often to see what it looks like on the frame. If you spot a good frame in front of you, you have to go far from it. It would take a lot of practice to be able to use it as a main weapon 🤣

    • @KebsCayabyab
      @KebsCayabyab  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Martin! I cannot describe what that "Saul Leiter vibe" is but I really like it. There's a softness that I think is hard to emulate with modern sharp lenses.
