    Frenemies to more is one of my favorite tropes. What is one of your favorites?

      Lord Darling is soothed by hearing of interactions with animals to reveal a kind, caring nature while receiving a good brush. Sudden visceral tension to become aware of a previously unidentified love. An innocent accidental/protective/ unplanned touch that leads to/reveals/awakens love. I am not certain if the previous are strictly tropes, but they are to me. Thank you for the thought provoking query. Sorry, not until I went back to reread did I notice you asked for, "one." I am sticking with my reply. Thanks again.🌷

      I love friends to lovers 💖 I feel like it's the best start for an actual happy marriage and when the couple hesitates to confess their feelings in fear the other won't feel the same, it adds a realistic obstacle, since it's understandable that they value the friendship. However too often when this trope is done, one or both has been in love with the other for a while already, so it doesn't truly feel like friends to lovers since they don't see each other platonically at the start of the story. Sorry for the rant lol

      @@i.am.10vely That happens a lot with novellas - the shorter romances. To get a jump on things. But yes, I think longer novels that drag out a one-sided (at the beginning) romance can be difficult if the author doesn't get it right!

      In real life, someone being deliberately antagonistic and mocking is off-putting; but apparently modern women (i.e. younger generations at this time) are being told that insults are the way men show interest. Probably because too many compliments can seem forward, pushy, creepy or insincere. It's a difficult balance for modern men to find, and I don't envy them at all. Sadly, I have no solutions, except that men strive to be considered, as an entire gender, as being always truthful.

    Reading is difficult for me now at 77. So, the discovery of audio books is a blessing. A really exceptional narrator is essential and can make or break my enjoyment. You have achieved both to my satisfaction, bringing your characters to life thank you so much. I'm enjoying all your books.

    I was only partway through book 2 when i first saw the title of book 3. I was slightly chagrined because i just knew Andrew & Josephine HAD to be right for each other in spite of all their dickering! When i reached the part of the story where Josephine says she has a secret i got so excited thinking it Must be writing! I was ridiculously elated when i discovered i was right!! ( i think i shrieked like a teenager, lol!) I'm so excited to listen to this book! The anticipation of it has nearly been a distraction from finishing Emma's story, lol (though not quite- she needed to be with her Ambassador!) Thank you for writing such sweet, clean stories & putting them here in audiobook form. I love reading, but time for pleasure reading is difficult to find without taking away from more important duies of life. I can listen, though, while folding laundry, doing dishes, driving in the car, etc. It is wonderful! I truly enjoy your stories! ~ Liz

      Howdy! I found audiobooks when I was a young mother with full hands and a full schedule. I'd read voraciously - perhaps a book a day - when I suddenly couldn't hold a book or sit still for more than a few minutes without being interrupted. I learned to rock babies to sleep with headphones on, do dishes with a bluetooth speaker playing a book, and fold laundry while my phone was in my pocket with a narrator talking to me. My children wound up soaking a lot of it in, and most of them listen to audiobooks as part of their bedtime routine now. I'm a big believer in audiobooks being real books, and one of the best ways to soak in a good story. I'm so glad you enjoyed this one!

    I've been thoroughly loving this series! After binge-listening to all you audiobooks for the month or so, I'm so happy I saved this series for last! It's so sweet and humorous with a steady tempo, I never felt like the story was dragging despite the calm nature of it all.
    Also, thank you sooo much for creating a story with less drama. It's an abundantly pleasant surprise. I was fully enraptured yet not anxious. I often feel myself going through emotional rollercoasters after reading so many stories like this (which certainly have their place!), but I hadn't realized how much better i feel after reading these more relatively drama free books. Just two people learning how to fall in love with one another.
    I do have to give credit to your historical research! I can tell through your writing that you try to do your due diligence in keeping things as accurate to the era of time and location as possible. I certainly look forward to your author's notes!
    Do you think you'll release your work via google play books? I notice amazon as the only option but i don't have a kindle. Anyway thank you again for another work of art. God bless!

    • @AuthorSallyBritton
      @AuthorSallyBritton  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Everything will eventually be on all retailers, but it will take a lot of time to get there. You CAN get Kindle books without owning a kindle - you can put a Kindle reading app on any smart phone, on tablets, and on your computer. And I know what you mean about the lower-drama/angst. I think we can all use a little less of that, every once in a while. It's how I feel about reading older books, like Anne of Green Gables. Have a lovely day, and thank you for your comment!

    You did it again! You were able to turn a character I didn't like into a really relatable one. Josie seemed horty and snobish in the last book. In this book she developed nicely . I like it, that it took her quite some time to understand her feelings toward Andrew, particularly because they were aquainted for such a long time and their relationship wasnt new. So it took her some time to think differently about him and see him for something different than a family friend. Something Andrew could do earlier because of the age difference, I like to believe. IOnly thing : I wish the books were much longer though 😂👍🥰 looking forward to the next one

    I am so enjoying this series! Friends to lovers is my favorite trope, and I am often left dissatisfied with enemies to lovers. I feel like too many authors who write enemies to lovers don't establish a connection beyond physical attraction. The same can be said of most "brother's best friend and younger sister" tropes. It's as if the author decided to fix everything off-putting about those two tropes. There is no true antagonism, and none of the chreepy power-balance or and while Andrew does consider Simon, he puts Josephine first. These two have been established since the first book. I have been shipping them since the beginning, and I enjoyed watching them come to understand what those around them already guessed. This is a charming and supportive romance. I am already on my second listen!

While I loved Andrew’s character and understood how his feelings grew for Josie, with him slowly realizing the depth of his feelings for her, I felt the perspective of Josie was slightly underdeveloped. I could not see how and why she developed the feelings for Andrew the way she did. Regardless, a beautiful story as always. Looking forward to the next one.

      I kind of got the feeling it wasn't finished. Like maybe a deadline came up and the rest was rushed. I felt like it ended before it really began. It's so hard to explain. I wanted Simon to be a better guy, nicer, a great friend, instead it seemed he barely tolerated Andrew despite what is told to us. The parts of the relationship we are experiencing makes me dread the Simon book. I am sure it will be better than I am thinking, I hope so. I also expected more of Josie, like it was going someplace and just drops off.

    I'm working y2k way through this series, but this one was my fa route so far.
    Bickering to in love is one of my favorite Regency tropes. Plus, the political unrest in London made for an enrichment to the background of the novel. Really a wonderful story!

    I was just thinking Sally, that if you lived in regency times your manuscripts would have been rejected because the heroines are, almost all, pushing the boundaries of convention. Glad you live in these times so we can enjoy your novels...

      @@AuthorSallyBritton yes, it seems a society of extremes. Women leading, albeit from behind, and women shunned for achievements as certain fields were out of bounds. I'm reminded of Georgette Heyer's Sylvester, where Phoebe was shunned by society for publishing a novel, and could only be righted if the duke married her.. but such are the ways of society. Change takes time.

Hartwell’s brother Lynus does he have a speech impediment, or was there a problem with the narration? It’s very subtle, but I hear it. If it is impediment I find it to be endearing for his character.

      It's upsetting how much I actually used that term in this particular book! Goodness. But a snort is like a scoff. If a scoff is made with the mouth, a snort is made through the nose. It's a sudden exhale of breath that shows irritation, derision, or other feelings similar to disdain.

    Oh, that was a tougher one. I hated Andrew initially. Always standing too close and being so obnoxiously dominant and rude, following Josie around the house in the night and never, never EVER taking No for an answer. Josie is allowed to walk about the house on her own and should not have him cling to her like some kind of annoying limpet who will not leave her side! I truly loathed him! Things got better, though. Eventually ;) during the second half of the book. The picnic part was lovely.

    I dunno..... This novel reminds me how far women's rights have come. The fact that Andrew won't let Josephine have a minute alone, or trust her, or is ready to tattle on her.... I find myself angry that he doesn't respect her.
    Or perhaps this is the difference 200 years makes?
    I like Josephine. I am rooting for her and her book.

    • @AuthorSallyBritton
      @AuthorSallyBritton  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think that's less about women's rights and more about Andrew being a pill. Because I would gut any of my male heroes for being stupid like that. I just finished writing the 5th book and there is quite a bit in there with the duke and duchess being a power couple and explaining to the younger generation how to make it work.

      @@AuthorSallyBritton now that I finished the novel, I liken Andrew as our modern equivalent to a person who might do stand-up. He seems ready with a set-up, punchline and waiting for the laughter to see if the joke lands. Perhaps he would be the class clown?
      Something that I find interesting, is how well you write the young, inexperienced 20 something. I am far removed from this age and when I get frustrated with characters, I have to remind myself that they are young and inexperienced in life. Oh, and also not real. But that's a detail I often overlook! 😄

    • @AuthorSallyBritton
      @AuthorSallyBritton  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ha! Yes, they're often young. Thankfully, I still have younger siblings in their twenties, and my children are mid-teens, so I am surrounded by youthful folly. Makes it easier to write it! Andrew reminds me a LOT of someone very close to me who is approaching his 40's. Some people never change...
