    Caution: Do not rely exclusively on scanners to locate objects behind a scanned surface. Some objects may not be detectable by your scanner. Use additional information sources such as visible points of entry of pipes and wiring into walls, standard 16” and 24” (41 - 61 cm) stud spacing practices, and construction plans to determine the likely location of hidden objects. Always use caution before drilling or cutting.
    WARNING: ALWAYS TURN OFF THE ELECTRIC, GAS, AND WATER SUPPLIES BEFORE PENETRATING A SURFACE. NEVER ASSUME THERE ARE NO LIVE ELECTRICAL WIRES IN A WALL. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS MAY RESULT IN ELECTRIC SHOCK, FIRE, SERIOUS INJURY, AND/OR PROPERTY DAMAGE.

    I thought I was extra special and just didn’t know how to use it, but lo and behold I’m not the only one. It can’t detect anything, even studs I found with the classic “drill until you find it” strategy. I hate myself for this being the one time I didn’t save the packaging or receipt. Dumbfounded that this made it through your QA.

    This is literally the worst product I have ever used. It finds studs where they do not exist, and does not find ones that do exist. You can even scan the same exact spot multiple times and get different readings. It's more like on of those old magic 8 balls than it is any kind of actual measurement device.

      Hi +Trucking Vapes. We're very sorry to hear that. Can you tell us more about your project, like what indications you received and which wall you were scanning? Our stud finders sense changes in density, so there are many factors that can come into play. Highly textured walls, lath and plaster construction, wet paint, metallic wallpaper, etc. can all affect any stud finder's performance. One will also want to scan in regular Stud Scan mode first (and only try DeepScan mode for surfaces thicker than 3/4 inch deep). We're not sure about your particular scenario, but we'd like to help. Can you please give us a call toll-free at 1-800-245-9265, Mon - Fri, 8am - 5pm PST? We'd love to hear from you. Thank you and have a great day.

    Just bought the HD55, returning it tomorrow. It 'found' a lot of studs, but would slide on the wall telling me they extended for 6-12'' after it alerted. Waste of money and time, will be returning

    • @ZirconTV
      @ZirconTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi +Terence O'Kane. In the chance you were unable to call, please try scanning for the left and the right edges on separate scans. In other words, when you're scanning along and the tool indicates you're on the edge of stud, stop the scan and mark that spot. Release the power button and move approximately 6-10 inches to the other side of the stud. Press the power button again and without moving until after it has finished calibrating, scan back toward your original mark to find the other stud edge. If what the tool is reacting to is in fact a single wall stud, it will indicate the other edge of the stud approx. 1 1/2" from the original mark. Repeat these scans a few feet above and below your original markings (since studs usually run from floor to ceiling) to confirm that what you found is actually a stud. Oftentimes, people will also notice a change in their tool's functionality by replacing their battery with a fresh, brand new 9V alkaline battery as stud finders require more current to operate than a garage door opener or remote control would. We hope this helps and have a great day.

    just bought this one it's brand new and no matter what I do it just won't stop beeping and shows full scale the reason I bought it was cause I borrowed two other types of zircon stud finders and had nothing but issues and please zircon people don't even bother saying its an issue with the way I'm using it I'm very annoyed that can't make a decent stud finder and yet it seems like there the only brand out there

    • @ZirconTV
      @ZirconTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sal. We're very sorry to hear about your experience with our stud finders. Usually when someone calls in on the phone, we go through a protocol of questions so we can best determine what is going on. One of the first things we try to do is establish whether the battery is a wild card (and in some cases, whether the same battery was used across multiple tools). Stud finders, especially models with an LCD or backlight, draw a lot of current from stud finders such that using a partially used battery doesn't have adequate voltage to power the sensing mechanism. From what you describe, it sounds like it may be an issue of low battery, but we don't have enough information to be sure. Is the tool performing the same whether you are scanning along the wall or holding it up in the air? Another thing we can recommend checking is whether the battery has an extended expiration date of at least 2019. Please give us a call at 1-800-245-9265 Mon - Fri 8AM - 5PM PST. We'd love to help you. Thanks and have a great day.

    Why is Home Depot still selling this useless device? Worst $20 ever spent. I literally made a half wall with 2x4 exposed to get a read on how to gauge my findings behind the wall. This thing kept beeping with no studs and completely missed actual studs. WPOS!

    • @ZirconTV
      @ZirconTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi +SKITZO LOK. We're very sorry to hear about your experience and can definitely understand your frustration. Generally, stud finders will react to density changes behind your wall. We don't know if this is what happened in your case without more information, but if the thickness of the wall you're scanning through is more than 3/4", the normal Stud Scan mode may not detect any changes. Stud Scan mode is designed for 1/2" or 5/8" wall board only so that one does not inadvertently find other objects further behind the wall. In cases where one would need to scan deeper than 3/4" (because of thicker wall materials), one would use the DeepScan mode on the StudSensor which increases the scan depth to 1.5".
      When a StudSensor indicates an edge, as it continues to scan past the stud (without releasing the powering down), the stud finder should recalibrate when it passes the other stud edge. If you haven't already tried, please insert a brand new 9V alkaline battery with an extended expiration year of 2019 or 2020. This may (or may not) solve this issue for you, but it'll give us a better idea of how we can help troubleshoot the issue for you.
      We'd love to speak with you more and help you out. Please give us a call at 1-800-245-9265, Mon - Fri, 8am - 5pm PST. Thank you and have a great day.

    This stud finder detects something at less than a inch even on deep scan.

    • @ZirconTV
      @ZirconTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi +Myles Underwood. Yes, stud finders will detect density behind the wall up to a certain depth. In normal Stud Scan mode, this stud finder will detect increases in density (from the area you calibrate on) up to 3/4 inch deep. If it is within that 3/4 inch deep, it will be detected. DeepScan mode increases the detection depth up to 1.5 inches deep, which is why we always recommend that you start in normal Stud Scan mode first and to only switch to DeepScan mode if you do not detect anything in normal Stud Scan mode. Hope this explanation helps. If you have any other questions, please feel free to call us toll-free at 1-800-245-9265, Mon - Fri 8am - 5pm PST. Thanks and have a great day.

    • @ZirconTV
      @ZirconTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@guanaco1080 Hi Oseas. A few questions to help us troubleshoot better. Is that battery you're using brand new with an expiration date of 2022 and beyond? If you also happened to use the same battery in both units, if the battery had insufficient charge you would experience the same beeping errors in both models. Another thing we like to note is to be sure the stud finder is placed flat against the wall before it is powered on and to wait for the tool to finish calibrating (short beep with the word READY on the screen) before you move it to scan the wall. We also recommend scanning on different interior walls around your home to establish the consistency of behavior since home construction differs. If you're still having issues, please give us a call at 1-800-245-9265 Mon - Fri, 8AM - 5PM PST. We are here to help and would love to get you up and running. Thank you and have a great day, Oseas.

    I have been through 2 of these in the same amount of days. These are garbage do not buy these if it matters. I went to a friends house after the last purchase and ended up drilling small holes in the wall to find a stud. The HD55 was off 3 inches. What trash.

  • @juhdah2146

    I found what said to be stud, marked the center. I used the 1/8 but to initial start the hole. After going through the drywall, the bit stops going forward as if I ran into solid steel. What's happening? Must be steel and not wood? It's a StudSensor, not SteelSensor.

    • @ZirconTV
      @ZirconTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Juh Dah.
      The StudSensor HD55 locates studs by detecting density changes behind the surface. There can be, and probably are, other objects within your wall(s) that you need to avoid. These include pipes, ducts, cross beams, electrical lines, and more. To help distinguish the object you have detected, we recommend “mapping” the wall you’re scanning on. 2x4 studs run from the floor to the ceiling (except around windows) and are typically spaced in 16” center to center intervals on wide sections of walls. The width of a 2x4 stud is approx. 1 1/2” wide from one edge to the other. So, if the stud finder is sensing an object that is less than 1 1/2” wide, or wider, please exercise caution as it may not be a stud. Once you locate what appears to be a stud (via all the criteria mentioned above), the next stud should theoretically be 16” away. Locate it and “map” it. We always recommend mapping three of four studs (if possible) and scanning at several heights above and below your first marks. That way you’re more aware of where your studs are.
      We offer toll free support at 1(800) 245-9265 during normal business hours Mon. thru Fri. 8:00am to 5:00pm PST and via email at techsupport@zircon.com. You can also visit www.zircon.com for more tips and tricks. Thank you, Juh Dah.
