It is such a shame that so very many of our movie, and t.v. westerns, did not use the 1873 model, but for some reason opted for the 1892 model. They could have just as easily used the authentic model of 1873. But they failed in not only the firearms, but the clothes, the saddles, the belts and holsters, the chaps, the hats, the language, and yes, even the horse breeds. Thank you again, Hickok45, for spotlighting the model 1873.

This was a joy to watch thanks for brightening my day with some amazing antique guns and wonderful commentary.
The camera work on this channel is really the best on TH-cam. So many other channels either show just the shooter or just the target and they never show the gun enough. John always does a perfect job of showing everything - often showing both the gun and target during shooting - and switching between the different views. Other channels don't grasp this concept quite like you guys do.

I love the old guns with their patina of age, I have an 1873 that looks like yours. But I also have two by Uberti that are excellent. One is a short rifle in .45 Colt, half octagon/half round barrel, very pretty.

Beautiful gun. My Miroku example in .38/.357 is my favorite gun to shoot. Just deadly accurate and you can’t help but feel like a cowboy.

Sure enjoyed the walk ,I have been blessed with owning a winchester 44/40 1873 ,made in 1876 and took it hunting to step back in time as you did ,nothing like holding that in the present time .Thanks Hickok 45 as always

Growing up, my Dad had two lever action guns. Both Winchester. 30-30 and a 32-20. I wish I still had them.

OMG. I was given one of those by my dad which was given to him my his dad from his dad.
Those are literally priceless rifles.
Also had a priceless 64 Winchester .30.30 Serial number was under 380,000. Teddy Roosevelt got the millionth one.

well it's not an assault rifle it's a repeater. but yes these lever action rifles still live up to there name and will always be the most beautiful style of rifles.

My fav lever
I have a Marlin 30-30 made in 1897. I don't reload and 30-30 ammo with a lead only bullet is scarce. So I just don't shoot this old Marlin. But I do take it out here and there and make sure it is well taken care of. Fine piece of American history.

My brother had a 1896 Winchester 32 caliber Rifle with a Octagon Barrel. Someone kindly took it from him, it was his father and his father before that from Maryville, Tennessee.
That 44 40 brass needs picking up pronto $$.
