I love being a Patreon member! Our community is great and the content is great. I originally joined to have first access to sales, but now I am a member just for the content and community.

In a world where people waste $100s a month on phone games or lottery tickets spending $5 helping someone do what they love doesn't sound so crazy. I'm personally to selfish and would rather fund my own ambitions so this is something I'd never subscribe to. Don't let haters get to you, this is TH-cam and there's always haters and trolls, if you've managed to be successful in this market good for you.

I want to thank you guys for your show the information saved one of my snakes .She just would not eat and finally she shed her skin and the day after I had live mice and killed it and ate it . it goes to show you can't stop an animals from doing what its born to do .

I'm still looking for someone to be a patron for that has projects with genes that I'm looking for in my goals. I'd love to have an Olympus Reptiles hat and shirt but in my opinion the access to the genes I am looking for in my projects is more important.

Hey Matt, hoping you could help me out. I’m going to an expo next month and I’m going to be looking out for an Axanthic GHI (preferably female). Do you know how much they should be going for? I’m new to the hobby and I don’t want to end up buying an “overpriced” snake because I don’t know what I “should” be paying.

I think the patreon you do is a great idea and the patreon members you have didnt get forced to be patreon members.. they did it because they like and support you! What you say makes alot of sense. I think it's really good too that you provide a well moderated forum on Patreon that has none of the nastiness you often see on other groups. People need top be safe to share without being judged and reamed when they post.
The one thing I would change is that it would be nice if the giveaways were equally weighted for all Patreon members because people with deep pockets already have the advantage when it comes to amazing pick-ups. There are alot of people who might join at some point but will never have the kind of income to pay the top tier monthly membership fee and it shouldn't be a rich man's game. Some of the other benefits I can see being added for higher tiers but the purchasing and giveaway opportunities should remain open to everyone who pays monthly. Even here on TH-cam I like to see when people get opportunities for high-end snakes who otherwise might not because their budget wouldn't allow such a purchase at market price. For people just trying to gain a foothold those first few higher-end snakes are a huge hurdle. Once they get over the hump they will have something to trade with, but that initial stage can be really tough when you don't make alot of money and don't have Patreon or some alternate funding source yourself.
I meant to respond to the comment on that other video about Axanthic. I'm now inundated with rats so they're taking up more of my time now that they are bearing young, but wanted to let you know I agree with you that Snows are cool snakes. I think of all the Axanthic combos that is one I really would like to have.
Hang in there and don't give the haters a second thought. Haters will come up with something to be nasty about even when there's nothing controversial to complain about. I recently saw a bunch of dislikes on a video that showed someone going above and beyond for their animals and there was nothing remotely to hate. I think there are just some people out there looking for a fight with random people they don't know because they're dysfunctional and it really has zero to do with the content. For that kind of person reason is lost on them.
I'm sure in a few years you'll have your slots filled up on Patreon. I think there are people waiting to join when it becomes cost-effective and you start hatching out what fits into their breeding plans. :-)
I hope so! The giveaway being weighted will still give everyone a chance. Kind of like a raffle is what I envision, just higher donations may have more raffle tickets. As far as the special sales, they are open to all members $5 and above equally.
Would you suggest patron if someone like me that doesn't have a hole lot of money and is only going to start with a few snakes for right now? That has to take months to save for the next snake
Hey Matt, I was watching some of your old videos and saw the one with your rattle snake Reaper. Awesome video, love the live feeding and the knowledge you give. Also love the set you did to his cage with the lighting system you put in. I'm buying a new tank for Aphrodite's I would love to put the same light setup you have for Reaper for her. What is on reaper is a ceramic heat emitter heating a rock, then a Phillips hue bulb that I can control via voice by Google home

People are selfish if they think they can tell you how to run your business. You keep doing you. You have set the bar high on Patreon, and I’m not even your patron, and I know your $5 benefits are better then most. It was a genius idea, exemplary execution, and you stay humble by constantly thanking your patrons for your racks and new projects that was made possible by them. They should ALWAYS have the right to be first in line for what is available, because they were the first in line to support you on top of choosing to buy your snakes.
I'm a new subscriber. Just started watching you. I mostly subscribe to handyman, woodworking, DIY channels. I also have my own youtube channel. Many of the channels I watch have Patreon sites as part of their brand. I dont see a difference in what you are doing versus any of those other channels I watch. You are soliciting paid subscribers and in order to get paid subscribers you have to offer something in return. Many of the channels I watch do special connect or videos, live streams, product drawings, discounts, shop tours, room tours, more detailed content/videos, etc You are not doing anything different here. As you said , do what works for you and keep going, ignore the haters. If you do something and it isnt working you adjust and keep going. Thank you for all you do.

The fact that a small business is doing well enough that everything you produce is off the rack before its available to the public... that's freakin awesome! That's good business! That's the dream! Patreon for your business gives it a sense of exclusivity meaning not just anyone can have an Olympus reptile. Not just anyone with an empty fishtank can purchase a living work of art! You have to be willing to invest in the brand before you can own a piece. Giving the purchaser a sense of pride in ownership ensuring the well being and proper upbringing of the animal. Brilliant!
Forget the haters. I'm sure one day as you grow you'll be producing enough to have up for public purchase... that's part of the growth! And that's pretty much the point. Create the demand so that the hobby can pay for itself and eventually help pay the bills!

I don't blame a bit for it i signed up to one in the uk he breeds some of the best snake you can get i learned more from him in the last year about ball pythons than off anyone else his babies sell basically as they hatch people place an order on them and i love his stuff one from him but got four of his line from other breeders so when he started patreon it gives you first chance so i jumped on it and as well as getting to pick before it goes to the public i really like his platform and its my way to say thanks aswell man is a great snake breeder
I'm glad I watched this video, I was trying to figure out how to become a customer but the website was a bit confusing and when I realized it was asking for money to "join" i kinda backed off. $5-$10 is harmless so I'll definitely be joining

I can tell you that is true. I am a member, and I've had questions and concerns with my snakes and matt is the best. He ALWAYS posts on a type of solution. I am a night owl, and I an say within 24 hours he has a post. Is he brian from BHB no, is he another large breeder no. But he loves what he does and his community. I'm far from an expert, but I have learned so much from him to start my collection of 6. Have I got any of his hatchlings? No, but that is because i'm slow on the response when he post them. If you don't like what he is doing that is fine. It's not N. Korea you don't have to like it. No one os forcing you to watch his videos or go to pateron . Other then my local breeder in the charlotte NC area I can tell you that if I get the room I would get one of matt's snakes.

Hey man I just wanted to start by saying I really love what your doing man you got a great business method and care for your animals love ya but everyone get these hate mail deals people that have no idea how to run a business like to think they could do it way better. But when it comes doing it they can't and if they could run things they would. So what I'm trying to say is that you do an amazing job and don't let the people bother you because us true reptile people know how hard it is and your doing great. That's my rant so love the videos and still next time
I think people just get frustrated when they wanna buy from ya, for now supply doesnt meet demand, but as time goes on and you guys grow, more snakes will be produced. Honestly it is a great problem to have as a business lol. No one can say the bp market is dying when i see you guys and other snaketubers doing well and selling lots of bps.
Sugguestion: Everytime you sell a snake to a TH-cam viewer, you should thank them monthly in a TH-cam video and maybe display each snake while thanking them. I realize that is difficult to do since you would have to cut a month long video into one short video at the end of each month
Thats the customer service you get with my patreon when you get a snake off him you get a sheet with all the details of that snake substrate its on what food its on size of food all his details and a call him any time letter he misses out nothing i would put is name but i do the same with phone numbers don't give them out till i ask first he also does reviews on everything and does not sugarcoat anything

It might not seem fair but has a lot of good points. It gives back to the project so I can see why patreon members get first choice they r supporting u and ur work. And unfortunately if people are complaining about the 5 dollars how can they afford a 300 dollar animal. Plus creates a fun and comforting community there are a lot of people that are kinda mean. People wanna in joy the hobby.

We don't keep f/t around unless we are low on live. Most our babies are fed on tongs though and will switch easily

Maybe you'll catch this or someone from the Patreon which in my opinion after just getting here is great it means you're going to have a better relationship with your breeder than most people are able to get.That right there is like a Swiss Army Knife and it's worth paying for to be able to have it. Like I will join as soon as I get paid again because I want to see what you have coming up cause I'm about to finish building my house, and I'm finally going to be able to have a ball again after 4 years. I really want to get a new baby ball as a house warming gift to myself because I miss my old ball I had to rehome bad. And just out of the videos I've watched I haven't seen one I don't want.

Yes, but it is very small. Think TH-cam takes over half of all advertising money made by my channel. With patreon, there are no adds and I get 90% of the pledges.

Yes. We typically request 50% down, rest due before shipping. Can do plans, just get with me. We are extremely flexible on patreon.
It’s totally up to you what you do (clearly) but question you have so many people buying up stuff of patron most people won’t be able to get anything (im talking about actual members) so say they give 600 a month and finally get a good deal and pay 600 for a snake...they basically paid 1200 for that snake. Or am I missing something ?
You are. We only have just over 200 members, so everyone certainly has a good chance. A $5 has just as much chance as a $100. The highest tier is $100, not $600. After 6 months, we give $200 back to the customer in credit. So, you can buy a snake after $5. Or maybe you do $10, for 6 months then buy a snake. At that point you get a t shirt, and $25 shipping. Patreon will top out at 800 people. It will never get too big, because I capped membership for two reasons. One, so everyone has a chance, and two, so I could keep a better contact relationship with the people over TH-cam/Facebook. TH-cam is currently over 27k.

I find it weird that I have to pay to even browse what you have for sale. Maybe I just dont understand how patreon works.
It is more than that. You pay for specials, discounts, and more content. Also, first access to what we put on sale. So far, nothing has made it to online.
Patreon for us provides a steady income that we use to continue to run our business, improve the Reptile house, and expand faster. In exchange, the people on it get closer interaction, content, discounts, and everything else mentioned

Honestly if the people who have subscribed to ur patreon don't have a problem with what ur doing then that is all that matters. And it's obvious ur not doing something wrong or they wouldn't have subscribed to ur patreon to begin with.
Losers focus on winners while winners focus on winning. Where are the haters at? The fact is this is a solid business model. On top of that its so much more content that you guys put out for patreon. We all pay ten bucks a month for Netflix but five bucks a month for first chance purchase of clean healthy animals that we get to see video on and everyone loses their minds lol. On top of that just the content and entertainment is worth the subscription!
It seems to me quite a few of the people who hate on this model have the same mentality. For some reason it’s this pretentious attitude that Olympus/Matt/Curt owe you something. Like you should have the first right to buy whatever animal and your dollar is worth two of any normal peasants dollars lol. At the end of the day if you don’t like it then move along, that’s your right. But please stop trying to tell the patreon members or Olympus themselves about how this is rip off etc. couple things 1- you are not the smartest person in the room, so stop trying to be. 2 - don’t waste your time because we don’t give a f*ck anyway.
Last thing, if you are considering give patreon a try come in and try it. The community vibe is bad ass and the content/customer service experience is incredible. Worst case if you don’t like you lose 5 bucks.
There is like and dislikes about your patreon subscriptions I like the idea of being the first to get a chance to buy snakes before the public , but after a certain price for tiers the 6 months waiting period before your( My) benifits kick in its a big deterrent for my views. I feel like I'm paying this much for something I should get that benifit after my 1st payment goes through. Some tiers I understand but $15 and up no I don't understand but i know there's a reason behind that. Example: if I'm paying $100 a month and in 6 months I get $200 off of whatever then i would be paying $600 minus $200 =400. I should've just paid for it in beginning myself without the discount. That 6 month waiting period is a reason I'm not a patreon supporter of yours. But I still love to watch the video's. All though this is just my opinion. But keep up the good work Matt!
The ability to purchase and Access to sales comes after the first payment, not after 6. As far as other benefits, there is more than just $200 off. Reason for the 6 month period began on the $10 with a shirt. After 6 months you get a shirt and flat rate shipping. We sell shirts at $20 at shows. They cost roughly $5 to ship. So, if at 6 months you get one flat rate ship (they are actually unlimited) that cost me about $30. Plus a free shirt, $25 (with shipping). So there is $55 right there of the $60. So then the extra content, pre sale, etc cost $5. If you purchased a patreon special during the same time, I actually lose money lol
It’s for the love of the guys and the growth of the buisness.
You have to look at the economics behind it. They are doing this to make money, not to lose money. If they did what you at proposing than I could sign up, pay $100, save $200 on a purchase, and then leave. That results in them losing $100.
If your looking to buy snakes from them frequently (which I plan to do at some point) then the way it would work is that every 6 months you pay $600, but save $200. That means you’re paying $400 for everything else you get with the package and help the continue to expand. That way you get something for your money and they make some money. If they weren’t making any money by doing this it would be a waist of their time and a stupid business decision.

I fully 100% support anyone doing whatever they want to do with their own business as long as it doesn’t hurt others in process so conduct ur business however u want....and anyone who doesn’t like it they should just move on and not even b$itch about it pointless there are plenty of places to buy reptiles .......that said ...and this is just my opinion from a pure money making business stand point.....be careful alienating urself from potential customers....what works for u now may not work for u in the future and burning bridges is never good when u want people to give u their $...as always go with what works for u just always have an eye on the future...

I personally don’t care what anybody does if it’s working for you that’s fantastic and if people want to give you money that’s great too but you can paint it anyway you want it still just asking people for money to fund your business for special access or deals that you don’t give to ppl who don’t just hand over cash.
That is exactly what it is. Point is, I shouldn't have to apologize for that business model. There is different tiers of fees that gain different levels of access, discounts, etc. Some are upset that I do that, and give that access. I won't apologize for that. But yes, people who receive it pay for it. That money goes into our business.

You're not forcing anybody to give money on patri on you don't have anyone at gunpoint. It's a good way to make your business grow I wish I could do the TH-cam thing and do it myself these racks and these snakes get expensive lol
You should do it! We put a lot of work into TH-cam, but also have been very fortunate it has grown like it has. If I can get a little lucky anyone can. Give it a shot!
