@sheeeeesh3628 if I had to guess, it's because the paint can come right off. Using the soap and water you're more attacking the surface where metal polish I think the chemicals will react with some of the paints on the melts and take them off. I'm not 100% sure, I've always done the method in this video.

No rough rubbing and easy on the hand buffing has always worked for me.
