  • Legendary golfer Gary Player joins the podcast to talk about his amazing life and career. Gary talks about being known as the "World's Most Traveled Athlete" saying he has racked up more than 15 million air miles traveling the world in a legendary career that saw him win 165 tournaments, including 9 majors over five decades. Gary talks about being the first pro golfer to take his fitness and health seriously and still works out daily at the age of 84. Jimmy and Gary were both part of a big 3 that helped change their respective sports and help take them to the next level. Gary talks about his relationships with fellow golf legends Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus and what it meant to be part of such a historical era of golf. Plus Gary tells us how important family and faith are to him in his life, something Jimmy and Brett can definitely relate to.

Great Interview Jimmy and Brett!! Gary gets it! I met you Jimmy at the Palm Desert tournament they held in the 70's I believe at the Marriot but not sure on the resort. You beat Victor Amaya the beast from Michigan in the 1st round and man I was blown away by your movement on court and your overall game! Later on that same day (refresh your memory) I snuck around to a side court where you were being filmed by Vic Braden on your footwork for his academy he used to run.. I stood 20 ft. from you looking over a 3 ft. courtside fence in complete disbelief at what I was witnessing as Braden launched balls to you to hit and move on the baseline, the Power, the Balance, the Speed of You and the Ball going back blew me away up close. You took a break and said hi to me and my buddy and went right back at it.. I can say now without fail after all this time has passed You are a Champion! Your work ethic, Your family life and what You represent to Tennis Worldwide are a tribute to a life well lived...
Thank You for inspiring me and millions of other tennis players to be better and put in the work ethic!!

I was watching old Jimmy Connors match's and the way he walked (yes walked) between points brought back great memories, it was a stride, like a thoroughbred. Gary Player is a true gentleman a God fearing icon, what is not love about these two men. A man never stood so tall then when he is on his knees. Brilliant Gary. Brilliant Jimmy.

What a gem of a conversation between 2 of the greatest ever to do it in their respective sports. You won't find 2 greater competitors than Connors and Player. I was a ball boy for Jimmy when I was 10 years old in 1971 at a satellite tournament outside of Washington D.C., which I'm sure he remembers :)

Here we catch a glimpse of a man who I'm sure will be the first to live forever. I'm quite a bit younger (you retired when I was a year old, Jimmy!) but within a quarter of an hour here, I'm benefitting from the wisdom of Mr Player and his anecdotes. It's awe-inspiring to witness somebody in his eighties, who is still very much in his prime. Hopefully in sixty years, if I'm lucky enough to make it there, I'll be able to look back on the lesson in life, lifestyle, in mentality and mental fortitude, and above all else the lesson in loving this life, that I'm receiving free of charge tonight. Thank you both - all three of you - very much from England for this. 🙂

How do you only have 278 subscribers? I caddied for Gary back in June. Thrill of a lifetime! What a true gentleman and he spoke to anyone that approached him. What an amazing and gracious man!

What a wonderful interview with a wonderful man….he has been one of my all time idols for a long long time…I’m the same age as Jimmy. I grew up watching Gary, Jack and Arnold. Gary is right, there will never be another Big 3 as far as talent and friendship/bond. I could listen to Gary (and Jimmy) talk for days…I don’t think he said anything I disagree with…we are on the same page in all areas of life….But, one of the things that always impressed me about Gary, was his emphasis on physical fitness, and this was well before it became popular, and especially in golf…he was a revolutionary in that respect in that sport…and he is a testament to staying fit….He still looks amazing… I really admire him on so many levels… Thank you Advantage Connors for this interview….I was so looking forward to it, and it did not disappoint… Well done! I loved the stories…the Pancho Gonzales story was wonderful….I loved watching him play… This is so cool, Jimmy…I idolized you and we now reminisce about the same people we grew up watching and idolizing….What an inspiration! I’m so glad to you have these podcasts and TH-cam videos…

Wonderful interview. Two great athletes in their respective sports. Gary Player is one of the most positive people I have ever seen. Young people should listen to his advice. The big 3 is far different in tennis than golf! One on one. It is war. I noticed Jimmy kept quiet on this topic! Mr. McEnroe is probably still a sore topic! Anyway great questions and interview. I will tune in to your channel.

Brett. I already said it at your podcast page, but to view the Interview with you, your Dad and Gary Player adds another dimension. Thank you for sharing it! Best wishes to your Dad whom I admire since my adolescence. He was the reason that I started playing Tennis. I look forward to more.

The story at 23.00 of him crushing his grandchildren's trophies when they showed them to him is nauseating.

Gary, Statues are not there to 'remind'; they are there to 'honor.' That's why, for example, you won't find any statues of Nazi officers in Germany.

      LOL that's right.
Gary is somehow quite likeable despite being ludicrously dogmatic and generally as mad as a hatter.
His anti-socialism is mind boggling - just because he's been around the world making money doesn't mean he has a deep understanding of other countries' politics !
And his compulsive boasting - incredible.
