I must say, I emphatically agree with this assessment of Rory. I grew up academically-gifted and thus was essentially sequestered in school with other brainy, ambitious, high-achieving, gifted kids. I knew that hyper-judgmental, overly-critical, yet weak type of girl! They are very common! So accustomed to being placed upon a pedestal since childhood that they cannot tolerate an ounce of challenge or criticism. Ugh. Being around such individuals, one in particular, was a very unnerving and trauma-inducing environment.
@@AvecPoesie while i’ve had a very similar experience as a low income gifted and talented kid, i can’t help but have empathy for them. the difference between them & us is that we knew the capitalistic idea of failure was a possibility. we saw it growing up & we knew that if our lives turned out “average”, it would be okay, because that’s just how it is. but these privileged kids, they’ve never had a change to get that. the concept of failure is unknown to them until they experience it, and its a world breaking moment. plus having high income parents typically means they expect you to follow exactly in their footsteps which is not an easy task at all. they’ve never *had* to work to be seen as the golden child, so once they have to work, they don’t understand why it’s not going perfectly. we got to know we weren’t really more special than anyone else, they never did. sorry this is long, i just truly do feel bad for people who were never able to develop that skillset. its all a fault of the parents, not the child. they can be hard and yes, i’ve had trauma at their hands too. but i do understand where they’re coming from. there’s a difference between weak & sheltered. they’re not weak, they just were never taught how to recover from failure because that was an impossibility to everyone around them. i know a lot of ppl hate rory, i just can’t despite knowing the exact type of person she is up close.
April is not a bad character her existence was just random. Vanessa is a great actor though, I love her for being such a fan. And she was great in Switched At Birth.
But I guess when you find out you have a child you don't know about it can be pretty random. Or out of the blue. and all of a sudden your life changes. Like I know someone who found their dad and just sent them a Facebook message. I'm sure that father's life suddenly changed because he found out he had a daughter over one quick message. so I mean I guess it would make sense if you felt like it was random but I feel like thats what makes it realistic
How Luke handled April being in his life is what broke up him and Lorelai, not April! Do you blame a child when parents divorce? Of course not! Don't get why viewers blame April....so cruel and to spread the hate to the actress is so wrong. It's a tv show people 🤔
I loved April. I always wished there had been more Rory, Lane and April time - I feel like Rory and Lane would have helped April, and April help them know what was "cool". She didn't break up Luke and Lorelai at all - Anna treated Luke badly, and Luke didn't trust Lorelai.
Luke didn't NOT trust Lorelai. He clearly told her that he wanted to get to know April first before introducing them because he knew April would love her. No, April did not break them up. It was Luke's handling of the situation that broke them up. Also the nonsense with April's mother having a problem with Lorelai and April having a relationship. Typically, once a couple on a show gets together and they are happy, they tend to get boring so this was clearly a contrived roadblock to create drama.
CDG1228 she said she had a problem with it if Lorelai wasn’t going to be permanent in Luke’s life. Which was her right to say as April’s mother. If Luke and Lorelai were actually solid, there wouldn’t have been a breakup. They had issues that needed to be addressed and they didn’t address them. Lack of communication ended them.
@@wordeeone4996 They were solid until April came into the picture. Luke gets mad because Christopher calls, declares they must to be honest with each other, then he keeps a huge secret from his fiancee. Lorelai finally gets tired of him shutting her out and gives him an ultimatum. He also began his relationship with April by letting Anna calling all of the shots after her keeping his daughter from him for 12 years. She can feel however she wants as April's mother but Luke should have stood up for Lorelai and her position in his life. Theoretically, things would have played out a lot differently if LUKE had made better choices and communicated better.
I can’t believe people hated April! The storyline was a weird thing to throw in BUT as a character, she was great! You did a great job playing her Vanessa.
I dont blame April. I blame Luke for not playing open cards with Lor. And Anna freaking out and said she will take her away from Luke if Lor sees her again
She didn’t break them up. She was a child. Luke not telling Lorelei and Lorelei’s ultimatum broke them up. It was poor communication. I loved April. I wish that we could have seen more with her and Rory in later seasons. I think they would have had a cool relationship and have been able to relate to each other.
I loved April. I didn't love how Anna steamrolled Luke into thinking Lorelai was a problem and not going to be there forever. It made him secretive about his life and wanting to keep April separate. I started watching Switched at Birth because of Vanessa's time on Gilmore Girls and also because it was a show about Deaf and Hard of Hearing people like me.
I agree. I liked April. She gets a bad rap! Luke should have told Lorelai and Lorelai shouldnt have been selfish he didnt tell me how dare he. But Anna made everything worse that controlled everything in Aprils life and she didnt tell Luke he had a daughter so it wasnt his fault he wasnt around. Ps this actress is very beautiful and funny.
I love her so much. I miss Switched at Birth and always loved April. She was awkward in a relatable way. Honestly she has a lot in common with like Rory tbh.
Aw I loved April. I don't know why people thought she broke them up. She literally just did what the adults allowed her to do, and the adults were having faulty communication. I feel like a lot of people who watched it once they got older might have understood that better- probably why that side was not on social media about it at the time.
Summary of the comments section- "April didn't break them up, Luke did" . I agree with that but I didn't know that there's so much hate for Christopher!
Even though I was around 12 when I discovered GG, I have gotta admit that April was not that relevant for me the first time around but after 10 years and a couple re-watches I find her a funny kid who appears to give Luke more of a voice in the show ( background, flaws...) So thanks!
She is the sweetest person I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. I was an extra in a movie called Dear Lemon Lima and she just hung out with us, chatted, etc. It was all very normal. Also, I liked April. Her character was cute. Her sister is adorable too.
This was worth every second. It's great learning that Ms. Marano was basically a super-fan before joining the show. She's so different now because she's older, it's cool to hear she's an April fan now. As a fan of "Switched at Birth", I didn't know I had already seen her in anything else, and then I saw older-April in "A Year in the Life". I was like "Wait, that's HER?? SHE was April??" Then I went on IMDB and confirmed it. She's great in both shows, and I can't imagine anyone hating her as either character. April was seriously quirky, like revenge-of-the-nerds quirky-cool. I'm glad the online haters didn't affect Ms. Marano. She seems cool as well. Great interview.
Honestly, I always really liked April. She was about my age when I was growing up and watching the show and I always found her kinda relatable. :) I was never one of those big shippers that cared deeply about who Rory or Lorelai ended up with. I just liked the cute town and the funny people in it.
I loved April! It was wonderful that Luke has his own Rory. It was great to see her in the new series which she wasn’t in long enough. I’d love to see April more if they do a Gilmore Girls movie. I hope they have more interactions with Rory and April as sisters/The Gilmore-Danes family. I’d like to see April in her career as an MIT graduate, probably working for NASA lol
When she came in I was honestly shocked. I kinda wanted Lorelei and Luke to have their own kid...it was kinda a disappointment but ya know...it is what it is lol. Even though it's kinda the same thing with Lorelei and Rory...she had Rory with another dad so oh well lol XD
I always loved April who else thinks she and Rory would have been friends if they were the same age I swear April reminds me of Rory nerdy funny and her own person
I love April! Seeing Luke as a Dad was so nice and I wish we could have seen more tbh. But he was so in the wrong to not tell Lorelai and then keep April from her. Even in AYITL, I was so disappointed that Luke still kept them separate. It just doesn't make sense.
I didn't know anybody hated April. April was awesome. Luke just freaked out about her existence. Lorelai was hurt by Luke's shutting her out. Anna went off on Luke and Lorelai because she was upset about it when he finally stopped shutting her out. Then, Lorelai freaked out and said marry me now or we're breaking up. Luke reacted badly to being put on the spot and needed a minute to process. Lorelai then sought solace in Chris's arms because he's her drug of choice when she's upset. So then understandably Luke didn't want to be with her anymore. Other than her existence being the catalyst for the communication issues, April didn't have anything to do with it.
I loved April!!! It wasn't her fault that they broke up. Luke kept putting the wedding off and finding excuses is what broke them up. But they remained friends
I liked the April character, she was funny. It was also interesting to see how Luke would deal with a daughter suddenly, also because April was so unlike him. It’s been a while since I’ve watched the show, but in my memory April immediately liked Luke, despite him being so different from her. And there was no bad feelings about missed time or having to catch up. It was like: “Oh so he is my dad? Cool!” That’s heartwarming.
I feel bad that she was attacked on social media. That's awful. I know what that is like and I see it still all the time, and it's not okay people. I also don't feel that her character broke up Luke and Lorelai that they broke it off because it wasn't their time to be together in that moment. They still needed time to grow, and they did. I always knew that Luke and Lorelai would end up together, and when that happed nothing and no one would stand in their way. On another note I still trying to figure out who got Rory pregnant?
I loved April so much. Almost more than I loved Logan which to be honest, I didn’t think was possible. I was a little late to the GG game. I didn’t start watching it until 4 years ago. I binge it about once a year now.
I never got the April thing. It’s like when they put Dawn in the fifth season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (though I did end up liking her after season 5, lol)
I loved April! But sorry Vanessa, I had never seen Gilmore Girls until it was on Netflix recently. I love that you took it all in stride. People who "hate" characters need to take it out on writers not actors!
I love Vanessa. I've known Vanessa long before I decided to binge-watch Gilmore Girls. Seeing her on tht show made me super excited and happy. I never viewed it as April broke up Luke and Lorelai. I didn't even hear about this until now. Luke wanted to be a father full time to April, that's why he broke up with Lorelai. That's his own personal way of thinking he can't be a good father if he's in a relationship. That is not the general way of life. Also the salt shakers thing isnt that weird. I wouldn't think of it just by looking around, but if someone asked me to do it, I would find it enjoyable for some time.
I'm watching a Chopped Junior episode and Vanessa is a judge, and I'm like.... who the heck is that? I totally recognize her but can't place it! So I had to search, and ended up here. So funny! I did binge watch Gilmore Girls again for the umpteenth time this year... Totally a 2020 thing to do! YAY! Thanks Vanessa! I loved April! :D
Everyone who says that Luke was the one who broke up Luke and Lorelei is right, but honestly for Anna not to tell Luke that he had a child and then get upset that Lorelei met April even though she's not married to Luke is pretty wild.
OK, first of all, I *adore* Vanessa Marano!!! She's a REALLY good actress. I love how she played this gawky kid on GG, and is now a natural beauty on-screen. Secondly, she makes a VERY, VERY good point when she brought up 1.) the fact that a girl's education was a central part of the show, and 2.) so was a woman owning and running her own business. I'm a guy who considers himself pretty progressive. I think, maybe, deep down, I liked those two things too, without really realizing it, and perhaps that is a factor of why I loved this show as much as I did.
She's fun. "Don't let them know what they hired.." LOL I never understood the April hatred. She was cute, and I like that Luke had the chance to be a dad. I couldn't see him with the mother AT ALL though. Not a nice lady.
I had such a strong feeling she was related to laura marano. Also i didnt hate april, i didnt want luke to have a daughter but I liked her as a character
I always thought April was awesome, and I defended her a lot back when the show was still coming out with new episodes. She was just a young girl who wanted to know who her dad was. I didn't like Anna one little bit though. She should have told Luke about April, but instead she robbed him of all those years with her and then fought him for custody.
I never ever hated April. The most animosity I felt was maybe toward Anna, even if her logic was somewhat understandable, but April didn't break up Luke and Lorelai... if anyone did it was a combination of Anna and their terrible communication skills.
April was a really cool character, it was just the writing that was awful and thus the writing that broke up Luke & Lorelai. I think the writing really messed with the foundation of a lot of the main characters and who they were at their core. And then in S7, new writers had to finish out the last season, so it really was a mess. But I'm just grateful they got L&L back together, even though it was in the last 10 minutes of the last episode. Kind of a bummer so much time was wasted, but at least we got some decent stuff in the revival, though it was an even bigger bummer they hadn't already gotten married and had kids of their own. But it was more than I hoped we'd ever get as fans, so I still enjoyed it and I love re-watching the show, especially the earlier seasons
originally Amy wanted to do Season 7 and 8. She got to redo Season 7 as the revival, so she still owes us a season 8! Amy wrote L & L breaking up, so how could that be wrong? April was cute, but Anna was so jealous of April having a great time at her birthday party!!! i always wondered if Amy was going to write Luke maybe falling for Anna.
I think that most of the people hate April because of the storyline she brought into the show. I mean, it was so out of the blue and not at all someone expected in the show. It was like watching a soap opera, and GG clearly wasn’t. A hidden daughter who wants to find her father just because she’s doing a science project?! A hidden daughter?! No thanks! It really doesn’t suit the style of the show. It’s so sad to see what happens next... but the most important thing is that Lorelai and Luke get back together in the end 🥰
April did not break up Luke and Lorelai; Luke and Lorelai's horrible communication did (still love them though).

And she was great in Switched At Birth.
oh that was her in switched at birth. loved her!
I loved her as Bay in Switched at Birth!
Yes I loved her as Bay, she is a wonderful actor and so beautiful!
I loved April in the revival. “IVE ONLY SMOKED POT ONCE. I ATE SO MUCH CHEESE AFTER” 🤣🤣
Underrated line! My one and only experience with Marijuana was precisely the same! 😆
How Luke handled April being in his life is what broke up him and Lorelai, not April! Do you blame a child when parents divorce? Of course not! Don't get why viewers blame April....so cruel and to spread the hate to the actress is so wrong. It's a tv show people 🤔
Vanessa is such a likable person lol I love how bubbly and excited she is
The fact that people actually attacked the actor is insane. People are weird!
How can you NOT like April??? She is such a great character!
It wasn’t April’s fault, Lorl & Luke weren’t communicating well at all.
CDG1228 ok
Also, rory, lorelei, and April time too😊
I can’t believe people hated April! The storyline was a weird thing to throw in BUT as a character, she was great! You did a great job playing her Vanessa.
I liked seeing their bond grow in season 7
How could anyone hate April? She was adorable!
I dont blame April. I blame Luke for not playing open cards with Lor. And Anna freaking out and said she will take her away from Luke if Lor sees her again
& then April tries to set Luke up with her biology teacher bc she feels guilty!
April wasn’t the problem. It’s how Luke handled her coming into his life
She didn’t break them up.
I discovered Gilmore Girls earlier this year and you were one of my favorite characters
Loved April....so much fun with her....
I really liked April and her dynamic with Luke. I can't believe people were so cruel to Vanessa for playing a part in a show...
I liked April and despite what some fans may think. I think it was a good idea the storyline. Shes grown up to be a beautiful young woman.
I loved April but I hated her mom and blamed her for the breakup not April
I hope we see a video like this of her and talking about Switched at birth. She is an amazing actrice
Even though I was around 12 when I discovered GG, I have gotta admit that April was not that relevant for me the first time around but after 10 years and a couple re-watches I find her a funny kid who appears to give Luke more of a voice in the show ( background, flaws...) So thanks!
I love April! she was so cute! ❤
I didn't like Anna Nardini. She was horrible! April was fine.
I loved April ❤️ Her character and the fact that Vanessa played her made my love for the name April increase 💝
I LOVE April. She did not break them up! Luke did with the way he handled it all
I loved April. She reminded me a lot of me. Which was so nice to see.
Love April💗 you did such a good job!
I looked so much like April when I was in my preteens. I related so much and loved her for it! 🥰
I loved April! She was so cute and funny. Luke grew so much from their relationship! Lorelai's drama and Luke's immaturity broke them up
I don't think she broke them up. I just found April really annoying and a really unnecessary addition. She was the cousin Oliver of Gilmore Girls.
She is beautiful
Omg why are we getting Gilmore Girls content??? Is something gonna happen ahhah
Because it was the 20TH anniversary
Omg! 20 years ago!
Luke shouldn't have shut Lorelei out! Lorelei shouldn't have run back to Chris!
I loved April’s character so much
I loved April!!! It wasn't her fault that they broke up. Luke kept putting the wedding off and finding excuses is what broke them up. But they remained friends
I quite liked April but didn’t like her Mom. Luke n Lorelai were bad at communication that is why they broke up.
I LOVED April!!! You were a beautiful smart girl! Arguably smarter than Rory! I loved you on the show! You are a great actress!!!!!
I never hated April! She is an odd little surprise, but I definitely grew to love her because Luke loves her!
I loved her character and never understood the hate she got!
On another note I still trying to figure out who got Rory pregnant?
it's obvious, Logan, just like it would have been in the original season 7.
I love Vanessa Marano!!! she can play so play Faith in Buffy or a younger sister
Faith, baby sister of Buffy, was probably the inspiration for April! GG creator Amy is a huge fan of 5x5 buffy!
I love April Nardini so much!!! ❤❤❤
I loved April’s quirkiness. Ignore ignorant online cowards
Wow, I had no idea people hate on April. I actually like April from the get go. She’s really great as Luke’s daughter.
I loved April so much. Almost more than I loved Logan which to be honest, I didn’t think was possible. I was a little late to the GG game. I didn’t start watching it until 4 years ago. I binge it about once a year now.
I love this actress!
She's grown up!!! And she's related to Laura Marano!
For the record, I loved April, I hated her mom. ❤️
She is so pretty!
I loved April she was a really nice character
#VanessaMarano Wow you really grew up beautiful! I was an April fan from the get-go! I love smart kids!
luke having a daughter was such jumping the shark but vanessa was and is so lovely
I loved Gilmore girls I own all of the seasons. I thought the April character was adorable.
April and Luke’s dynamic was perfect and I loved them
I loved April. Especially the salt and pepper shakers, because that was me.
I never thought it was April’s fault😂 she was a kid. I just thought she was funny
"I always liked her!"
She's fun. "Don't let them know what they hired.." LOL
I never understood the April hatred. She was cute, and I like that Luke had the chance to be a dad. I couldn't see him with the mother AT ALL though. Not a nice lady.
I love April. It’s refreshing to see another kid star in the show besides Rory.
I had such a strong feeling she was related to laura marano. Also i didnt hate april, i didnt want luke to have a daughter but I liked her as a character
Ugh I loved April! Luke’s own Rory!
I always thought April was awesome, and I defended her a lot back when the show was still coming out with new episodes. She was just a young girl who wanted to know who her dad was. I didn't like Anna one little bit though. She should have told Luke about April, but instead she robbed him of all those years with her and then fought him for custody.
April didn’t break Luke and Lorelai up. It was Anna Nardini and the way Luke treated Lorelai that broke their relationship.
April wasn’t a huge deal, it’s just how Luke acted after she came in
i love her positive attitude about haters
She's adorable! 🥰
Let's make it very clear that April is luke's daughter! Her existence did NOT break up luke and Lorelei, luke needed to be a father before a husband!
yeah....his daughter comes first
I really liked April she was cute
And I don't think it was her fault
It was LUKE MOSTLY
Then loralai too
But I mostly blame LUKE 🤷♀️
Love April. Great acting.
April is such a cute character!!! So underestimated
