My grandparents looked just like that in their very early 50s when my parents were married in 1951...though my Nana was more elegant. My father in law looked pretty old in his 50s too. We look a lot younger in our 60s than they did. Even my sister in her 70s looks younger.
I saw this when it first aired, recorded it and watched for years after. One of THEE best shorts they did and still funny decades later 😆 "Oh I'm spent, it was incredible"
Always fascinated by the mother's first outfit every time I watch it. I've never seen anything like it in any 50s media. The dress looks normal but why the wizard medallion and the lace on the head.
She has a medallion-looking-thing on her second dress too, on the V of her neckline. I kinda wonder if it might be a pin for alumni of colleges and universities and institutes back then, worn when visiting their Alma Mater, to Identify their standing or even specific class. And daughters who went to college back then often went to their mother’s schools. One of my favorite books is The Group, which is about fresh grads from Vassar in the early 30s as they set on on their adult lives, and some of their mothers had been to Vassar too, or Wellesley, Smith, or any of the Seven Sisters, etc. It was my grandmother’s copy. She went to university in the late 30s, so it’s like reading part of her life. ANYWAY, that’s just a possible theory. My university had pins for their Houses (called Colleges there, which is confusing when I say I went to X University and was at Y College). Just a theory.
@theboombody I saw it the first time about a month ago watch the mst3k channel and it short itself is so lame but the comedy they brought to it was top notch
@@juanthompson7395 The library of episodes on Tubi is quite large, and a great treat for new fans. Not every episode is a home run, but more are than not. Probably the 50th best episode is just a hair less in quality than the very best episode.
They may have had her later in life and maybe they tried for years which would explain why only one kid . And people aged differently back then . Her parents grew up during the depression and wartime
There are pale imitators out there, but no-one does MST3K like MST3K! When you got to Troy Donohue / Elinor Donahue, I couldn't stop laughing out loud for well over half a minute...
I wish they still tried to teach healthy relationship material. Some kids have no idea due to their upbringing and naivety. It's more important than just about anything. And people end up being parents and step- parents when they never planned to.
According to IMDB, the roommate Liz is played by Lynne Gorman. She was born in 1920. This was filmed in 1957. That makes her a 37-year old college student. Those jokes about her age are pretty spot-on, lol
@@Deosgaeno Well, I meant to type Tom Hanks. There's probably a porn star named Tom Hands. The first tim I ever saw him (Hanks, that is) was in Bosom Buddies with Peter Scolari. It was an early-80s TV series in whtich they played a couple of guys who dressed in drag so they could pass as women and stay in a women's-only apartment complex. Not exactly Three's Company, but It was pretty bad. Tom Hanks in drag? As bad as you'd expect.
To answer this question you must first ask if the object you believe to be Love has hurt you and if it continues to hurt you. If this is the caes , it is indeed Love but you will not be able to know this due to all the pain. Thus you may infantilize the objetct applying the pain to you and exhort it repeatedly to cease its hurting of you for all time . 🙋♂️ No more.
Why does everyone assume she will.drop.out of school after getting married? Was college like the Miss USA pageant back then? Also, what was that thing on Mom's head?
near the end there's a reference to a certain Supreme Court Justice who is objectively corrupt--and his despicable scandal involving his harassment of a subordinate--and this is from 30 years ago. We know you so much more now, CT!
The house! Take the house! They're not even asking you to break up, just wait and you're set for life.
Ikr, her parents are very chill and supportive
Right?
Ahh to be a young boomer, living in a time before old boomers made it prohibitively expensive to exist
The whole point of the short is don't be impatient, but too bad for Peggy because she is.
@@theboombody The house! Take the house!
the way the 3 gasped when she said "they got engaged last night" is perfect.
Those specific perfect moments from the boys down front 😉👌
Only Whitesnake is qualified to answer this question.
😊😊😊😊
What about van Halen?
I feel like Van Halen is also pretty qualified.
Bob Marley?
Whatever you do, don't ask Foreigner. those guys don't have a clue
"You're a Romulan"
Back then, most pro football players had to work off-season jobs to make ends meet. Peggy should take the offer from her folks.
every time I see this short Peggy INFURIATES me.
Wow! Now there all gazillionairs!
"besides you're a Romulan", gets me every time
Every single time
I honestly thought her roommate was her mother.
What is love?! servo don’t hurt me…don’t hurt me no more. Bum bum bum…
I want to know what love is. And I want you to show me.
hands up if the first time you saw this short you were expecting a big truck to crash into their car on the way to the chapel...just me? ok.

Or maybe a train like Your Last Clear Chance?
"Why don't they look, Ralph? Why don't they look..."
God, I thought that was her mother! Then I saw her actual parents and thought they were her grandparents......... and I'm 70.....
Romulans always look older

Best opening riff in MST3k history.
World's oldest teen
My grandma had that same hairdo.
😂😂😂
She looked old enough to to be Dick Clark's mother.
Check out MST3K doing the flick Daddy-O. They rip on the cast of 40 year old teenagers throughout. 😂
_Still_ more convincing than Luke Perry in 90210.
LOVE the reference to "All About Eve"!!
Is it just me, or does the older lady look like someone whittled down Carrot Top? I just can not stop seeing it....
Exactly 😂
I thought she had a familiar quality… now I can’t stop seeing that, too! 😆

This is the funniest show ever. Since the beginning of time and even before that, nothing comes close except maybe Matlock
""He's on the forty, the fifty, He could go ALL THE WAY!"" Great Paradise by the Dashboard Light reference!
I love Mike's "Wow!" response early in. :D
What an opening: “Is this love or just rough sex with Michael Douglas?” 😂
Cracks me up every time!
Watch out for snakes!
Know your ointments!
Original or extra crispy is so quality until you walk into the Crack house joke! Wtf I'm crying laughing

A golden opportunity to sing Wicked Game when the couple are driving in the car near the end.

The Basic Instinct(1992) joke was funny!
Shouldn't be cuddling in a convertible. Convertibles attract carpet monsters from outer space. ("Creeping Terror")
And apparently convertibles are too slow to drive away from such a lumbering monster.

Liz was almost 40. She was probably divorced and went back to college to have a career of her own.
Wonderful to see these shorts freshly uploaded from that musty old closet on the Satellite of Love. Thank you, MST3K! Keep circulating the tapes!🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
This is not going to be interesting to any one else, but Andy is Harry Johnson from Dark Shadows.
Barnabas! Barnabas! Barnabas!😮
I remember Dark Shadows, but not that character...
Interesting to me because Andy is smokin' hot. Joe Schmo.
Romulan girl from Horror at Party Beach?
"Is this Love?": A Whitesnake Movie/Documentary
I'm sure that after his pro football career is over, Andy will get that Glengarry account.
Thanks for posting this!
I was in this short, I played a table cloth.
Well that roommate and her bf will definitely have some kids with HUGE teeth.
Episode starts with a BANG
First contact with a Romulan 🎉

They go on and on about her roommates age. And it’s true! Every time I look at her, I wonder “what were they thinking?”
OMG. Her parents are like in their 60's. They didn't have sex until their 40's!
No-one else has noticed that Mr. Cramer wears the same moustache as that failed artist who took over Germany in the thirties?

Who would have thought parents wanted their kids to wait to get married back then 🤔
Why not move in with him....oh right, 1950's. Next they will be in the back seat!!!
And even if they do marry, they won't be able to sleep together in the same bed until the 1970s.
