Thanks for a good video, I have just moved onto my first narrowboat on my own and all videos like this are useful My boat has a Thetford cassette toilet as the main loo, and I have a brand new potapotty as a backup so I found this very helpful. Thanks again
They are great toilets, but a must is to use the 2 chemicals for the flush and waste, they stop any smell and also break it all down , I keep one in the van for emergencies
I have the Porta potti excellence. The larger capacity poo tank increase you range. The other trick I employ is pee in a separate container and this extends the capacity. The two and a half litre milk containers work for me. I use some of the pee to flush with and this helps with water use. The toilet 'blue' and 'pink' chemicals do control the odour and break down the poo. This makes emptying time less stressful. The excellence is quite tall and, even for long legged 6'2" me is a bit far from the ground (mainly because of the shape of the boats keel. Another good vblog. No nonsense, practical, description. Thank you.
Ive had an Excellence for five years now, its a nice height and has a large capacity, but its a bit leaky when i carry it, i use a trolley, but it has to be manhandled off the boat horizontally . It will be replaced if anything stops working.
Well the best place to get the crap scared out of you, is sitting on a toilet.......PS, press the white button to let air in, it drains faster and less glug the glug turbulent aromatic fumes....
Thetford is one of the best portaloo's on the market, and if you are cruising you can get a spare waste tank. Thetford also do service kits to repair the handle if it does get broken... Oh, and be careful when emptying the waste tank as I've lost a couple of caps down the elsan point lol - busy easy to get replacements !!!! Good chouce LBG Love the Tatts by the way !!!!
I use Porta Potti Excellence. I use a sack barrow, it is heavier! 7-8/9 days or more [liveaboard]. Use Blue, and Pink rinse, to stop smell. I wear mask, impregnated with lavender oil, gloves and goggles etc.
Odorlös brand works for me to deal with odor issues. Baking soda also has its uses ad an additive as well as on the rinse. Edit: May be spelled "Odorlos" for an internet search.
Thank you, that was very informative, I'll be moving onto a boat this year and I just had loads of my as yet unanswered questions covered by this video, good luck with your water situation, I watched that video and it grossed me out a bit when you opened the hatch!
I guess Im asking randomly but does any of you know a tool to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow lost my account password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me
@Trenton Turner i really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and im in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
“Scared the crap out of me”, what a pun lol. It will smell - those sorts of toilets should be used with toilet chemical fluids - the so called pink and blue.
Just wondering.........has your leak been sorted ? Just starting on your vlogs, so you may have covered it, but we jumped on the 3 that address it directly in the titles. Nice to see someone other than me with a lavatorial sense of humour. Also, on the tour of your boat, we saw no evidence of any heating, no stove- shock, horror !- you must have something, but what? Bogs, eh ? You gotta love 'em !
Hahahahaha “I did it for the dislikes”.... to hell with them, BE YOU! I don’t wear gloves when I go to the loo, nobody has ever given me negative comments about that. Great video as always!
That's quite a title for a bog. We got one in the 1980s - still got it can't remember the name of it but it's pretty much what you have there. So good point - it's a long well-established design. Intelligence - you found the pouring tube cap too late. Clearly, several days too late as it should befitted securely before use ! Pouring out - I'd suggest not aiming directly for the Elsan hole but to make use of the funnel effect to minimise the drop distance. This will minimise splashing. Chemicals - we always used chemicals with ours Gloves - Totally agree with not using gloves ! It makes you far more aware of what your touching. How many people wear gloves during the process, handle various things inc. chemical bottles etc. then at some other time, handle the same things without gloves - immediately contaminating their hands with bugs and yet doing nothing about it ! I generally work on the basis of one clean hand one 'dirty' hand - whether it's toilets or preparing food. With the latter, the clean hand handles knives and whatever while the mucky hand handles the food. And if you think that's the wrong way around, you clearly are clueless about hygiene.
What a nice surprise ! only the 3rd vlog on toilets this week , 2x humans and 1 x cats....all by you know who boaters . Roll on the spring when they all get back to cruising., ….. "and the Armatridge Shanks Award for Best Toilet Vlog goes to ………….." At least you made less fuss than them Foxes.
@@lornajaneadventures My POV is from caravanning - 4 of us - so again, it only got used in evenings/nights/desperate times. Caravan site had a bogs block as well. So a bit different in a place of permanent residence.
Lorna, this was pretty interesting - but I have two comments for you to consider. 1) A couple of the items you mentioned made me think that the instructions weren't very good, or perhaps you did not read them at all. 2) Based on the capacity numbers you mentioned, the larger tank (when full) would weigh about 30 lbs. This is not much more than a 2-year old child, which I see women carrying while shopping all the time. Are you out of shape? 😏
We have this loo and use it for camping. Best camping accessory ever, so much better than getting up and walking to the amenities block!
Pee on the grass, shit in the woods - who needs a loo ?

You want to use the chemical as it helps to breakdown the waste in the waste tank

Portable urinals are handy!

Nice to view a Real Life experience with one of these, especially by a woman. Far more valuable than a sales pitch. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks... Got one of these for my boat but lost the instructions👍Very helpful..
Brewers yeast tablets help with the smells. You can get larger quantities from farm supply shops.
I think it is a good idea the to have the Porta Potti as a back up together with the pump out, it is always good to have options.
I have one and it's 14 years old and I am still using it.

Thanks 😁 just installed one in my camper conversion 👍
Brilliant explanation Lona....thanks for sharing
Awesome review 👏. Thank you
The chemicals do make a difference to keeping odours to a minimum. Also you might want to consider the dissolvable toilet paper.
SNAKEPIT359 thanks. I don’t put paper in the toilet but I’ll give the chemical a go and see how much difference it makes
Dissolvable bog roll - all of it pretty much is. Loses all strength when wet.
@@lornajaneadventures
Use a portable bidet no toilet paper needed!
That’s what i like to see a woman with a sense of humour great video keep up the good work

Very important subject, treated with a lot of humor

@Trenton Turner it did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thanks so much, you really help me out!
@Andrew Leonidas Glad I could help =)
do u have to dump it ever time u go to the bathroom?
Recommend using bio laundry liquid (I use Aldi's) one cap full in the waste tank and one in the flush tank. Seems to work for me!
I like that idea very very much , cheers !
Use a dishwasher drop-ins!
Thank you, very informative and helpful.
It smelt bad... surprise surprise.. use blue liquid in the bottom loo there will be no smell
I would be inclined to use a compost toilet
“Scared the crap out of me”, what a pun lol. It will smell - those sorts of toilets should be used with toilet chemical fluids - the so called pink and blue.
A great video, very informative, a lot of help, thank you.
Correct amount of Blue and half a cup of water to charge the wast tank
Loving the bio laundry liquid - probably a better smell than Blue and could be quite effective.
Thanks.

Harold Horseposture there will be a couple of plumbing videos out very soon
If only the heating was methane off rotting doodahs !

Oh boy, if you could, Nature's Head Composting Toilet all the way.
Fruit and nut bar, haha. Ok, so I'm not the only one. :P
R.Swipe the Great inventor of the porta loo
I think Gilbert would find a 30 llb child a lot more comfortable to carry than a Porta Potty!

Use the perfume chemicals you can't smell a thing when you empty it I mean you're emptying shit it's not going to smell like roses everytime.
The tank looks so tiny - do you really think it would last a week?
Justine C Diamond I work full time and go out most evenings. Cc reckons it would last half that long if I was in more
@@lornajaneadventures CC would know...

Why does youtube keep repeatedly and continuously recommending your toilet to me?
Absolute no no not to add the blue stuff. Yuck.
shit hot, as we say in Australia.
You didn’t put chemicals in it and it stunk after a week. No shit Sherlock. Come on, that’s the first thing I checked before I bought mine.
The Foxes were a bit over the top. Have stopped watching them.
I'd love to know why you've stopped watching them ?
