@Chris-pb3se Sheep? Chicago HAS massive gun control laws. That's why crime is rampant. Gun control takes guns away from law abiding citizens for the most part. The idea to cling to them for our future independence might have been made more urgent by George, but that's about it...and our Founding Fathers were alresdy looking to examples such as Switzerland's policy on gun rights...which is where we got the idea on how to frame the right formally.

I highly question these numbers. I lived in Germany, where they would call the police on somebody with a bb gun. There is no way that 1 in 5 Germans possess a firearm. In Switzerland, the government provides firearms to its citizens, yet they were listed only slightly higher than Germany. Americans are buying firearms at a rate of about two million per month and have been doing so for years. I can about guarantee you there are more than 120 guns per 100 people. Think about it, everybody needs at least a rifle, a shotgun, and a handgun. Just filling that order would put America at around a billion guns. Many Americans have huge collections!

Rifle for the small stuff, an AR-15, and a bolt action in .30-06. But then again, the .338 LaPua is great, and then a 6.5 Creedmoor, a .270 wsm, and at least one back-up AR, and maybe a .50 bmg for good measure, but after awhile, whose counting?

In the US guns are divisive. Most people do not own any gun. Alot of people have never even handled a gun. It's only in rural areas where you might expect every house to have a hunting rifle or shotgun. Some Americans do have huge collections, though, which is how you get more guns then people.

I live in Brazil. It is amazing how there is only 8.3 registered guns per 100 people, yet so much gun crime!
Maybe if the law wasn’t so ridiculously stringent on legally owning guns, the gun crime rate would fall.
It is easy for a criminal to point a gun at someone when they know that the victim is unarmed and has no chance of defending him or herself.
I firmly believe that if decent, law abiding citizens were armed, then the criminals would think twice before pointing a gun at someone.
At least a gun crime victim would have the choice of whether to defend themself or not instead of just waiting for the inevitable.

No wonder Oct. 7th ended up so bad. The israeli goverment leaves their people all but defenseless. Hell, most of their people have served and trained in the military. And we average 43000 deaths annually from car accidents. And most gun deaths in the US are from suicides. Lets get the stats right.
Though they tend to get less public attention than gun-related murders, suicides have long accounted for the majority of U.S. gun deaths. In 2021, 54% of all gun-related deaths in the U.S. were suicides (26,328), while 43% were murders (20,958), according to the CDC. The remaining gun deaths that year were accidental (549), involved law enforcement (537) or had undetermined circumstances (458).

Strict for all firearms. You need a permit even to buy some .22 for plinking or a magazine. Handguns were not too hard if you had completed the R/PAL but getting it was difficult. Buy too many in too short a time would probably result in a visit from the police.
