About Batman's no kill rule. If I were a regular criminal I would still be afraid of Batman. Unlike the Super villains in Arkham, the regular criminals probably don't escape Arkham every other month and are in jail for a long time. They'd also be in jail with 2 broken arms, 3 cracked ribs, a dislocated shoulder, and a destroyed knee cap. That could take years to heal and even then some might not recover fully.
MrSubWright That's probably why the supervillains have so many goons. They tag along for the breakout at the risk of running into batman again
Batman does not kill bad guys, he just made them difabel mentaly or physical...

No kill rule:
1) the idea is in part he knows himself to know when he starts justifying this one, the next will get easier and easier
2) by having this rule you have a character who stares into the abyss but never falls in, his superheroism is will to resist, that and an IQ over 180.
3) the no kill helps the police justify/rationalize his actions
4) he encourages rumors that he does kill

Here's a fun question. In Injustice we all know Superman lost Lois from simple asphyxiation, or in other words her body was intact and freshly dead compared to Alfred that got cut up and was buried for a good bit of time.
Why didn't they use the Lazarus pits? Sure the baby probably couldn't be restored but Lois could've. Even if it came to making a deal with Ra's for whatever this was a viable option to fully restore her life.
And I'll up it some. Why not as a Plan B? From all the deaths from fighting, the GL wars, selling his soul to Etigran, and so on why didn't anyone attempt this?

You also have to remember that once her heart stopped beating Metropolis was nuked, so that added to Superman's trauma and I'm pretty sure you need a fully intact body for the Lazarus pit to work which the people of Metropolis no longer had

20:33 Joe chill was removed at the Waynes killer, not by Burton/Sam Hamm, but in Zero Hour. He was later restored to that role in Infinite Crisis.
In the Burton film, they composited Chill and the Joker.
If we accept the idea that anticipation of death and pain is worse than death/pain itself, then Batman's no kill rule makes sense. Criminals would be a lot more afraid of the potential pain Batman would cause. Just a thought.
Yea, he's always been a torture guy like hanging over buildings and such. At a point it just can't be helped he deals with regulars that themselves have built up their own nerve like him which allows them to freely stand against superheroes while keeping their cool let alone dangling over buildings.
Yeah but once word gets around the criminal underground that Batman doesnt kill, the fear of him killing them means nothing anymore
But the fear of the potential pain Batman could cause remains, and that could have a deeper impact. Knowing that he could leave you hospitalized in constant pain for months at a time would still be a good deterrent.
Batman's Purpose is NOT to instill fear, That is a Method towards his purpose. To do anything that he CAN do, to prevent what happened to him, from happening to another, and failing that, take in the young who just lost their parents (Dick Grayson) and do all the things young Bruce wished SOMEONE had done for him, (stop the killer, save the parents). Then, in dealing with tricky villains, who would send henchmen who are daddies into a fight with batman so IF he kills one, He has BECOME "that bastard who killed my daddy" to an innocent child, who now has to suffer the same loss he did, BECAUSE HE, Batman, Killed their daddy. Nope, not going to do it. He's not lazy, He is the "World's Greatest Detective" and researches the henchmen and knows that killing a dirtbag will harm the child who loves their daddy and if he puts a little more effort into it, He can stop the villain, and no child has to feel that pain because of Batman.
In The Dark Knight @ 1 hour 7 minute mark, he stops Harvey from killing one of the henchmen, calls him by name and diagnosis "his name's Shiff, Thomas, He's a paranoid schizophrenic, former patient at Arkham, the kind of mind that joker attracts. What do you expect to learn from him? " "No one else will die because of me"@1:08:10 is closer to his "Purpose". But of course, you know all it takes is a new writer to get their hands on it and ret-con the hell out of it.
Bartist Clord this is what I also thought about when people egged about his no killing rule though characters like the joker well dc will keep characters like him alive.

there's a whole genre of podcasts called "two dudes talking" that is insanely popular. For this reason, what you've been doing. Don't stop doing this, it's great.
The kill rule is honestly the linchpin of Batman as a character. Batman is severely, severely depressed. His biggest motivating factor is rage. You do not dedicate your entire youth to becoming the best at everything but socializing if you've got it together. If Batman finally decides to straight-up murder someone, then he will be incapable of holding back that violent anger. If Batman lets himself kill Joker, than he'll be murdering jay-walkers in a week. That's exactly what A Lonely Place of Dying told us, really: when Batman cracks, no one is safe.
That's also why I'm totally cool with Batman in BvS doing as much killing as he did. In the movie landscape, Batsy can't just start putting people in comas or paralyzing them. Nearly every Batman movie has had him do something to a criminal that quite obviously would've fucked them up for life. I'm pretty sure even Adam West's Batman killed a guy once. Knowing that, the only logical step to take in order to tell your audience "Batman is even more damaged right now because he let a kid die" is to have Batman give himself even weaker excuses to murder everyone sight than Christian Bale's "I don't have to save you" bullshit. BvS's decision was because every previous Batman movie was awful at portraying the psychological and personal complexities of the demon formerly known as Bruce Wayne.

I can totally answer the jokers face problem. When Joker’s face was cut off, it was recovered by the GCPD. A while later, Harley went nuts, stole the face and put it on Deadshot. Deadshot stopped Harley and the face was returned to GCPD. THEN, at the start of Death of the Family, Joker returns and steal his face back from GCPD, killing a bunch of cops while the power was out. FINALLY, after Joker lost his face when fell off the cliff deep in the bat cave, Joker’s Daughter found it washed up from a river on the cave, and it became hers. None of those stories happened simultaneously.

No, I'm sorry...killing off Stephanie Brown was not handled very well. Not only did it later prove a mistake (because I enjoyed Steph as Batgirl, even if Cassie is my favorite), but it ruined the character of Leslie Thompkins. She was a pacifist that deplored violence, and a dedicated physician, but "War Games" had her turn her back on her values and let Stephanie die to "scare kids" from being crime-fighters.
And easily, the worst bat-related retcon was Cassie Cain's post-New52 origin (not that Steph's or anyone else's were that great either). That nonsense needs to just go. Tynion is not good at character-building.

See the No-Kill Rule can be terrifying. Batman will not kill you, but he will shatter your skull, break your arm, explode two disc in your spine and leave you unable to walk, use your arm, speak, or ever stop feeling horrific pain again. But you are left alive. I am sorry but a quick death would be far more preferable to being left a crippled invalid because I crossed Batman on a bad night.

Jack Napier was featured in the Killing Joke as well. He used a false name which was his last name backwards, Reipan. Provided I recall correctly.
The thing with Joker was that after his face was cut off, GCPD had it in evidence. Then when the Harley escaped Belle Reve, she went to retrieve his face. And Waller sent Deadshot to subdue her. Harley trapped Deadshot, put jokers face on him and made out with the face. Then it is put back in evidence. Then death of the family happens. And at the end of the death of the family, duela dent found the face at the bottom of the caves
36:00 Well about Bruce not killing and still instilling fear. Just remember what Damian asked Bruce in the beginning of Injustice 2. "So you won't kill but you're fine with traumatic brain injuries". I think fearing someone after you that would make you disabled rather than killing you makes sense.

MY point being the safest thing you can be in Gotham is a supervillain. Batman isn't going to hurt you. He's just going to lock you in prison. But if you are a dude who works for a villain, man, you're screwed. I hope you like having a shattered spine. Also, speaking of ret-cons, DC has ret-con'ed Batman in saying that he stands for justice. Batman NEVER stood for justice. They had to change it to make him more palatable for mainstream audiences when making the movies (my guess) or for children (again a guess). Batman stands for vengeance. That's his line, "I am vengeance. I am the night. I am Batman." That was the WHOLE reason he put on the mask and started fighting crime was to get revenge for the death of his parents. I'm kinda shocked none of you brought that up.
Batman might not kill but he does seriously injure them. That is still something to be scared of.
Jack Napier is used in the death of the family as well. When the Joker drugs the Red Hood’s girlfriend, the anchorman on the news introduces “Jack Napier” with the weather. Who ends up being the Joker.

Fun fact: In the episode of Batman: The Animated Series where Batman is locked up in Arkham, the doctor lists off some of Batman's rogues, then their real names, and mentions Jack Napier in context as Joker's real name.
Though in the New Batman Adventures, a TV special on Joker said his real name was "erased".

Well, yeah. That's why they put it in the animated series (which debuted the same year as Batman Returns, if I recall correctly).
And if I'm not mistaken, it was in part in honor of Alan Napier, who played Alfred in the '66 series.

Another way to see batman's no kill rule is that he leaves you alive so he can beat you again if you step out of line, he WILL be there to kick your ass.
Another weird thing about Damian is that in the New 52, supposedly, the DC timeline was condensed into a vaguely-defined period of anywhere between 5-10 years. But Damian was like 12 years old. So what the hell.
So, 2 things, it's a pop-up on ScreenRant, and you should be able to disable pop-ups from the site after a few cancels. Also, you can avoid the "you're using adblock" or "log in" pop-ups with opening the site in Incognito Mode.
Another point towards the no-kill rule is that he loses the "hush-hush" support of the police. Part of what makes him able to do what he does is that Gordon and the GCPD kinda turn a blind eye to it and don't fully try to track him down. Obviously there's been times where he had to avoid them too in different stories. But, he definitely would lose some public support if he was taking the Judge, Jury, Executioner route.
John D'Andrea that was sort of the agreement when Gordon became commissioner that he made with Batman. Then they won't stop him so long as they brought in by the book so to speak. And also partially the reason why during Adam West era him and Robin were deputized.

I like the no kill rule,because it makes Batman more likable,but I think they should put the joker in an isolated sell where a robotic system brings him food,so he is not near people,and you wouldn’t even need to put him in a straight jacket because the sell would be made out of layers of that stuff that Superman couldn’t break through so he couldn’t punch his way out or dig his way out.I would how ever try to make him comfortable so I would put in heaters a nice bed and books or something to keep him entertained.
It's not a virus or ad. Most sites allow 3rd party cookies which some will redirect your browser. You can turn allow 3rd part cookies in the settings, but clear browsing history to remove those cookies. It's a common thing I've dealt with easily a few hundred times working.

batman and robin issue zero pretty much shows that Damian Wayne's origin is more or less the same.
Oracle was my favourite background character after she got shot! Her walking and taking the cowl of batgirl again is ridiculous.
Obviously Batman is into S&M. The drugs simply increased his pleasure.
Note on "Kill Rule", Batman may not Kill but he will still beat them near death, crippling them or inflicting permanent nerve damage. Making the villains remember his lessons every time they move, and some with every breath... Believe they even did an story where someone tried to sue him over the permanent damage done.
Thomas Batman origin was depicted in the JL Flashpoint Movie and did a deceit job of it. After Joe's gun went off, Thomas grabs and beats him to 'near' death (or to death...). When he turns to see his wife cradling Bruce's body. She puts her hand, covered in her son's blood to the face as she sobs. Thomas goes to comfort her her hand drops reviling a Bloody Smile and her sobbing turned into cackles. Thomas because so bitter and isolated, even the eternally loyal Alfred left his employ.
The no kill rule, kinda shows why Joker is so fun;
Joker: Ah i don't care bats! I got this bomb on a kill switch, so you kill me, i let go, and that city goes kablooey! Even if you dont kill me, i still let go, and things go boom! Its a win win! Cause i just don't give a f*k!!! HAHAAH!
Like just cause he would kill, doesn't mean it would instill fear, in so that theres no survivors 1st off, and the people he goes against, just dont give a crap if they live or not.

We all know the worst retcon will end up being that the jokers first name is actually the word three.
There weren't THREE joker's faces floating around. It was the same face; each of those stories you mentioned just happened at different times.
Harley putting Joker's face on Deadshot happened first out of the three. Then Death of the Family happened. THEN Joker's daughter got her hands on the face.
Batman tells crooks you never here about the ones he actually kills. Implying he has killed and got away with it before.

they sort of did something with the Joe chill family in batman beyond where they introduced the grandson of Joe chill as the guy who killed Warren McGinnis and later became a superhero to redeem himself and teamed up with batman.
Rob- I think the original origin of the Joker back in the 30's had him fall into the vat at Ace Chemicals.
He has gone by the name joe ker in some comics. There was a call back to this in death of the family when joker wore a jumpsuit with the name tag joe.
The Batman rule isn't killing or guns... in comics it is not killing with guns, because that's how his parents died, and there are 100 percent times where Batman HAS USED GUNS whether as a fear tactic making them run away or just straight up SHOOTING THEM in non lethal areas.
But one thing you never see him do (since golden age) is kill people with guns.
I'm pretty sure they did explain where Damian came from in the Batman and Robin series leading up to his death. If I remember correctly the events of son of the demon happen but instead of being born naturally he was a test tube baby or something and was aged artificially to 8 years old and then began training under the League of Assassins and Deathstroke.
