Thank you so much for this pal. Just picked up my new bike and a friend lent me his bike rack to collect it thinking I could get halfords to fit it. (Wrong) without your video I would have been a 2 hour drive from home and properly stuck. Thank you.
Top video mate, very clear and concise. 10 hour trip tomorrow morning and feel a lot more comfortable about the bike being safely mounted after watching this.
Thank you for this video, just bought same carrier and watching this was so much easier than the instructions that came with it! 3 bikes mounted easily. Cheers!
Thanks Keith I've just bought one of these and you made it look really straightforward to fit. Instructions aren't always simple to follow at the best of times. Big thumbs up from me thanks.
@@0191DURHAMThanks Keith your video was really informative and will make things a lot simpler for people when fitting this bike rack. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Thanks, good video. There's currently a shedload of these carriers (and others) on eBay for a fiver. The fact that there is nowhere to easly attach straps underneath my car was putting me off purchasing one. Your obvious choice of attaching those straps to the lower edge of the boot lid has suddenly made this carrier a viable option. For those wondering if this fits to saloon cars - it looks as though the it will, plus one of the illustrations on the box show the t fitted to a saloon.
@@eddiecz I don't recall my exact search, but I did get mine for a fiver though I had to drive halfway around the M25 to collect it from a hospice in Watford. Take into account the Dartford Crossing fee X2 and then the straps I replaced, I may as well have bought a new one lol.
If there's no direct point to connect to under the bumper I suspect anybody who's been in the scouts could lash up some sort of strap for the clips to hook onto.
I am so glad to see this video! Thank you so much. I changed my car to a Peugeot 308 (2012) so need to buy the Halfords "Glass Hatch Anchor kit" The current top strap-hooks on the rack were a very tight/?damaging fit. Now I am happier about being able to fit my 3 bike rack which I've been avoiding since I bought the car six years ago! Hurrah, now I can take my bike further afield! One small point, for deaf/hard if hearing, the sub titles are rubbish, bit I've managed to get the gist of it. Thank you so much from this cycling Golden Oldie!
You all prolly dont give a shit but does someone know a tool to log back into an Instagram account? I was dumb forgot the password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me
@Westin Joshua i really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and Im trying it out now. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Great no-nonsense video Keith, in answer to the question of rear automatic wipers I remove the appropriate fuse when I fit the bike rack. I found out the hard way when I burnt out my rear wiper motor - hope this helps Cheers bikers.
Thank you for posting this, I have been given a 2nd hand carrier and it didn't have any instructions. This is really helpful thank you (and Thomas). Happy cycling!
Thanks Keith, top video. Best I've seen for anything on TH-cam for all sorts. Got my rack on order for tomorrow Am, so glad to see to this video. So we will be ripping up the routes through epping forest Pm 🤟🤙🤛💪👍
Excellent video mate and thank you. Now I know how to attach the same one I bought last week for this years holiday. Kids going to be happy they are now taking their bikes with them :)
Yes the wiper may not be able to move. So on newer cars with auto wipers it will need positioning to allow or remove the nut keeping the wiper on. You can’t see out the window with the bikes attached anyways ha
Is the spoiler on the boot considered to be plastic? Am trying to find something for my car but they keep telling me this kind of rack could damage/crack the spoiler on the car. Thanks for any info.
Great video you helped me decide between this version and the Clip on Thule version sold by Halfords. I was not keen on the metal clamps on my boot could possibly lead to it scratching my car.
Thanks Keith, but you have it resting on the plastic bumper! With better adjustment of the frame at the start, you'd have it 5cm up and away from the bumper as advides. Nothing then leans on plastic. Aslo the rubber straps holding the crossbar on need to be threaded through a slot before clipping them home.
Yudi Mahendra hi, the rack is adjustable so should fit many vehicles, I don’t know if it will fit yours but if you go to the Halfords website you can enter your registration number and it should tell you if it fits. I hope that helps.
Good instructional video. However, that is not how you use the red straps. There are two red straps, of which connect to the frame both sides. You thread the red straps through the wheels and frame of the bikes and secure. This is to stop the bikes falling off the carrier. I have one of these racks and Halfords insisted that is how the red straps are fitted.
barryallcock1976 that’s great thanks, it was the instructions that said not to attach to the frame and to fasten to the two black straps on the carrier. I don’t guess it matters but that’s what it said. Thank you for your comment though.
Jawaad as far as I’m aware as long as your number plate and lights are visible and the load is secure then it’s fine. If not you will need to purchase a light board. Halfords can help you with this if needed.
Very useful video, but you should also check out the Halfords instructions on their website which is the only legal information should you have a problem. Their instructions does vary from this video particularly on the use of the red straps.
Mike Bullard thanks, yes everyone should always be advised by the manufacturer instructions. The Halfords video is great. I beleive they made it after I made this one.
Great video Keith. Do the handle bars and pedals not damage the other bikes (banging into each other etc)? Doesn't look like there's a lot of space in between to fit 3 bikes ?
That makes more sence than their instructions for sure. The bit that had me puzzled was when it said 5cm space between the bottom. I see you sat it on the bumper and it looks way more secure.
Kim Smith hi Kim, I’ve not had any problems at all with it. If it’s fit correctly then it should be fine. There might be better racks out now a days but this is still great for me.
Turnitaround hi, it really depends on how you feel and where you park. It only takes two minutes to fit so personally I would remove it. If you go to a party place like Hamsterley Forest most keep there racks attached. It just depends on your location.
Rosemarie Bennett thanks, I’ve not noticed anything that’s marked. I so pose you could put a cloth over the straps to be double sure, but I think you will be ok.
Really helpful video. Thanks! I’ve been thinking about getting one. Silly question, aren’t you worried about the force this rack puts on your back window? Is there a chance it could break the window, eg while driving along motorway or going over speed bumps?
Yogi G thanks, to be honest mist of the weight seems to go onto the lower support on the bumper. I did wonder this myself, however the manufacturer instructions show this is ok so I trust that they have researched this. I’ve not had any issues in the couple of years I’ve used it. Hope that helps
Hi, I paid about £90 for the carrier. Make sure that you don’t have an auto rear wiper blade as the carrier may obstruct it from working. My vehicle never had one so this was not an issue for me. If you go to the Halfords website you can enter your registration number in and it will tell you the best carrier to use for your vehicle. Thanks and Keep safe...
Tony Campbell hi, I suppose you could adjust the rack so it was resting on the boot (below the wiper motor) rather than on the rear window. The rack is fully adjustable, however I can’t comment on individual cars. If you were to call into a Halfords shop you can input your registration number into a computer and it shows if it will be suitable or not. Thanks....
Or you could just go into your cars settings and disable the auto rear wipe. Keith, possibly move your roof box forward to prevent the tail gate making contact when open and putting undue strain on the box fastenings.
Jacqueline Carvell as far as I’m aware it universal, however you can go to the Halfords webpage and insert your number plate and it displays everything that fits your model.
Thanks Keith really helpful....I hope you are getting a voucher from Halfords ! One question from your experience do you think this carrier is sturdy enough to take an Electric Mountain Bike, about 24kg ?
givreycham hi, thanks for the comment. Unfortunately I don’t know if this would support an electric bike. It holds two adult bikes and a children’s bike with no problems at all, but I’ve not tried anything else, Sorry
ronald walker hi, I can’t say for sure as I have only fitted it on my car. However the carrier can be adjusted. If you contact Halfords with you car registration number they can let you know.
ashley mckain yes one of the bikes I carried was a child’s bike. The frame was different to the adults one but it fitted. I think I used an extra strap as the bike frame ended at the seat.
Good point. I never really needed my wipers as when you have 3 bikes on the rear it’s obstructed. My car did not have auto wipers so it was not an issue. I suppose if you have auto wipers on newer models you would have to position so it would not catch the frame. Or remove the wiper, I think it’s just a 10mm nut.
Why have you assumed that all weight is on the glass when clearly it isn't? The majority of the weight will be pushing down the frame, that's how gravity works. If anything the force from the drag, when the vehicle is in motion, will actually pull away from the glass.
*I was expecting a lot of shortcuts to be taken at this price. I was wrong. Decent quality **Latest.Bike** raker . Easy on easy off.*
