Wallacei @ AA Emergent Technologies and Design

The Emergent Technologies and Design program (EmTech) at the Architectural Association School of Architecture, focuses on the dynamics of complex systems of the natural world, together with an identification of the operative spatial and temporal scales of their phenomena and their critical thresholds. The students applied Wallacei as part of EmTech’s research agenda to investigate and evolve given tower primitives towards a set of objectives derived from distinct environmental and geographical contexts through applications of evolutionary computation.
From the Course 'Emergence and Evolutionary Computation’ at Emergent Technologies and Design at Architectural Association Paravee Pokawatthananurak and Yi Zhang used Wallacei to investigate the relationship between Aqua tower in #Chicago by Studio Gang and its context by evolving morphological variations of the tower to strengthen its connectivity to the context. The team’s computational experimentation comprises multiple stages of investigations to understand the efficiency of their evolutionary simulation in addressing the tower as well as urban-related objectives. Elevating the green areas, visibility of the tower in the context, skywalks, shaded areas were amongst in total 8 objectives that drove two consecutive simulations of the tower morphology and urban connectivity.
