I WAS THERE!! This song was always the most emotional experience. You really do feel the oneness of the crowd for this song. The aisle opening and the hand slam were normal for this song anywhere they played it everytime. So basically they told us they wanted to do something special this time. They played up to that portion in the song normally. Then he told us for the aisle this time, not move or smile or make a sound till the beat drop. Then to go crazier than ever before and surf him to the stage. It was amazing. I was up front in front of the singers piano so im too far too the side to see, but man, I will never forget this night. They used to stay in the lobby after to meet people and this same night, the singer recognized me from my cover of one of their songs on youtube. I was so happy!

When he returned he found that thieves had stolen his GPS, radio and CD’s. At the time, Joseph couldn’t afford to replace anything that was taken. In an interview with Rock Sound, he said: “When I get in the car my first reaction is to put the radio on and for a while I wasn’t able to do that and finding out that once I removed that piece of me I realized that sometimes music can act as a distraction and can get in the way of where your mind wants to go.”

I've watched a couple reactions to this song, and I dunno if it just gets missed or if the reactor doesn't find any merit in addressing it but he says "There is no distraction to mask what is real... I could pull the steering wheel." It's a contemplation of suicide that could be something he thinks/thought about often while driving in silence. All these invasive thoughts and one of the most prevalent is that it would be so easy to just... Jerk the wheel one way or another and stop all those thoughts for good, radio or no radio. Instead he chooses to keep going, a message I feel that many people could bear to hear at least once if not more. Though he did end up with a breakdown(shaving his head), he didn't go through with suicide. We all fall. What's important is that you can get back up, and if you can't you can always ask for help.

I really like that the lyrics keep going back to him in “real time” directly addressing that he’s driving this car with no music and nothing to pull him out of his mind. Did they say something to you that made you feel like an outcast? If they did, then now you sit in silence. You don’t want to talk to people, and you don’t want anyone to talk to you. Everyone now becomes someone that we’re scared will judge us. We think we’re great at hiding these feelings, but we’re not. As soon as someone tears us down, our pride **IS** no longer inside. We wear it on our sleeve, exposed to every possible danger imaginable. We become vulnerable to everything. We fear being alone with our thoughts in both instances, yet we grow to dislike people because we have been exposed to how rude and dangerous they can be for our own mental and physical health. So we maintain a safe distance. Staying away from people and avoiding conflict...but that leaves us alone in our thoughts again. The cycle always continues.
I like your analysis, but I would not focus on the car radio being an analogy. Tyler Joseph has said in multiple interviews that his car radio was literally stolen and these are the thoughts he had. I would encourage you to really focus on the lyrics, because that is where the meaning is.

Not even gonna lie Twenty One Pilots concerts are next level. I have literally never experienced anything remotely similar to them and I've been to dozens of concerts. Somehow they make you feel safe in a crowd of thousands of people and people will literally camp out for days just to get barricade. It's wild.
Hands down THE BEST show I’ve ever been to! The vibe was exactly as you said. Watching you react gave me those same some of those vibes and made me wish I was back there again! One thing I love about this song is that it shows him transitioning from being alone and seeing and hearing how he really feels to putting his mask on and going out in front of the crowd and go wild like everything is okay. It’s an intimate moment where you see the real him as opposed to his stage persona where you’d just imagine everything is okay. I love that dichotomy.
I’m rewatching your old videos, and you’ve been a huge reason that helped me realize how HUGE and completely diverse Twenty One Pilot’s listeners/fan base are. I remember going to a twenty one pilots concert and seeing so many people of different races, completely different age groups, etc... and they were all huge fans no matter the diversity in age, race, or just the music the regularly listen to, everyone at the twenty one pilots concert were so vastly different but the one thing we all shared was our love for their music, and that was so fascinating. Blacks, whites, Asians, Latinos, older people, young people, college students, construction workers, doctors, etc... their crowd is SO diverse and it’s the most amazing thing ever. Almost no one in their crowds can fit into one specific category besides the fact they all share a huge love for Twenty One Pilots. Their listeners/fan base is so diverse and I know I already said that, but it’s just so truly amazing and beautiful to aee

When I was 17 I had blew out my speakers and I had to drive alone in my jeep for about 3hrs a day and I didnt have a good home life by any means. I had been suicidal for a long time and the silence would make me scream and cry. I finally stole one of the skull candy ear budz from Wal-Mart by the check out so on the ride to and from MTI everyday I could blast eminem the whole ride... Pretty sure he's the reason I didnt yank the wheel. I always looked forward to the ride after that...
They way you talk about “manifest a whirlwind of energy” hit really deep. I saw twenty one pilots at a venue of less than 1000 in Tempe AZ in like 2013 before they broke big, and they were amazing. Had the whole place alive from start to finish, to this day I’ve never felt an energy like I felt in that crowd in any other crowd ever.

Love and Respect friend and I'm so thankful you reacted to this track as well. Such a deep and meaningful artistic choice for them. The song has such roots in how people are feeling these days about how having some sort of sensory input is necessary to keep from thinking about or having to deal with "what is real". I know after I got injured, after leaving the military, not being able to move or walk or pick up my young son or just do normal dad things with him and watching him grow up having to deal with that, along with the shit his mom has put him through (multiple marriages/divorces, four elementary schools before the end of 2nd grade) etc. He has some of the toughest skin and has put up with more bull shit and drama/trauma/emotional abuse than 95% of people put up with their entire lives and he's only 10 years old. Get this, he still manages to get fucking straight A's and is so damn smart and kind and empathetic/sympathetic...he has his ups and downs like everyone else but the both of us have very very very low lows because of what we've had to do the past 5 years now. However, I got a lawyer, got 50/50 custody (ex wife emptied my bank account and changed locks the week after I came home from military and sued me for custody with my own severance money) and now she can't do anything with my permission or approval and I refuse to move him from this school district or let her move from the home she's in now (unless she moves within our school district which is fine...she doesn't even live in this district now). I digress, once again, you have found a soft spot for me with this band and this song was one of the first tracks my son listened to on his own and broke it down in his own mind and took what he learned applying it to his own world/life and it was a beautiful thing to watch. #WorldPeace and #Respecttoall

I've watched a couple reactions to this song, and I dunno if it just gets missed or if the reactor doesn't find any merit in addressing it but he says "There is no distraction to mask what is real... I could pull the steering wheel." It's a contemplation of suicide that could be something he thinks/thought about often while driving in silence. All these invasive thoughts and one of the most prevalent is that it would be so easy to just... Jerk the wheel one way or another and stop all those thoughts for good, radio or no radio. Instead he chooses to keep going, a message I feel that many people could bear to hear at least once if not more. Though he did end up with a breakdown(shaving his head), he didn't go through with suicide. We all fall. What's important is that you can get back up, and if you can't you can always ask for help.

I really like that the lyrics keep going back to him in “real time” directly addressing that he’s driving this car with no music and nothing to pull him out of his mind. It’s a really powerful song and probably, in my opinion, the best track they’ve ever done. You nailed the analysis my dude.

If they did, then now you sit in silence. You don’t want to talk to people, and you don’t want anyone to talk to you. Everyone now becomes someone that we’re scared will judge us.
We think we’re great at hiding these feelings, but we’re not. As soon as someone tears us down, our pride **IS** no longer inside. We wear it on our sleeve, exposed to every possible danger imaginable. We become vulnerable to everything.
We fear being alone with our thoughts in both instances, yet we grow to dislike people because we have been exposed to how rude and dangerous they can be for our own mental and physical health. So we maintain a safe distance. Staying away from people and avoiding conflict...but that leaves us alone in our thoughts again.

I like your analysis, but I would not focus on the car radio being an analogy. Tyler Joseph has said in multiple interviews that his car radio was literally stolen and these are the thoughts he had. I would encourage you to really focus on the lyrics, because that is where the meaning is.

It's so much more than just not having a radio. It's depression and suicidal thoughts taking over your brain, the frustration of not having something to help you cope. An extremely poetic and meaningful song, by far. It got me through hard times

I love the way the song is so deep talking about depression and suicidal thoughts but musically it gives you so much energy at the end it makes you feel like you can cope with anything, you literally feel like you take off!!
Not even gonna lie Twenty One Pilots concerts are next level. I have literally never experienced anything remotely similar to them and I've been to dozens of concerts. Somehow they make you feel safe in a crowd of thousands of people and people will literally camp out for days just to get barricade. It's wild.

One thing I love about this song is that it shows him transitioning from being alone and seeing and hearing how he really feels to putting his mask on and going out in front of the crowd and go wild like everything is okay. It’s an intimate moment where you see the real him as opposed to his stage persona where you’d just imagine everything is okay. I love that dichotomy.

I’m rewatching your old videos, and you’ve been a huge reason that helped me realize how HUGE and completely diverse Twenty One Pilot’s listeners/fan base are. I remember going to a twenty one pilots concert and seeing so many people of different races, completely different age groups, etc... and they were all huge fans no matter the diversity in age, race, or just the music the regularly listen to, everyone at the twenty one pilots concert were so vastly different but the one thing we all shared was our love for their music, and that was so fascinating. Blacks, whites, Asians, Latinos, older people, young people, college students, construction workers, doctors, etc... their crowd is SO diverse and it’s the most amazing thing ever. Almost no one in their crowds can fit into one specific category besides the fact they all share a huge love for Twenty One Pilots. Their listeners/fan base is so diverse and I know I already said that, but it’s just so truly amazing and beautiful to aee

He means that the silence is making him confront his issues. The music was a distraction and now that it's gone he's just thinking... I can relate. When I was 17 I had blew out my speakers and I had to drive alone in my jeep for about 3hrs a day and I didnt have a good home life by any means. I had been suicidal for a long time and the silence would make me scream and cry. I finally stole one of the skull candy ear budz from Wal-Mart by the check out so on the ride to and from MTI everyday I could blast eminem the whole ride... Pretty sure he's the reason I didnt yank the wheel. I always looked forward to the ride after that...
They way you talk about “manifest a whirlwind of energy” hit really deep. I saw twenty one pilots at a venue of less than 1000 in Tempe AZ in like 2013 before they broke big, and they were amazing. Had the whole place alive from start to finish, to this day I’ve never felt an energy like I felt in that crowd in any other crowd ever.

They went to church at New Albany Church, now Five14 Church near New Albany. Friends of my daughters. Dana shot some of the photos for their pre-release CD, and Laura was in the *The Hype* video. I was at their 'breakout' concert at the Newport Music Hall in Feb 2011. They filmed the *Jar of Hearts* video that night, where my boy can clearly be seen in the front row.

Love and Respect friend and I'm so thankful you reacted to this track as well. Such a deep and meaningful artistic choice for them. The song has such roots in how people are feeling these days about how having some sort of sensory input is necessary to keep from thinking about or having to deal with "what is real". I know after I got injured, after leaving the military, not being able to move or walk or pick up my young son or just do normal dad things with him and watching him grow up having to deal with that, along with the shit his mom has put him through (multiple marriages/divorces, four elementary schools before the end of 2nd grade) etc. He has some of the toughest skin and has put up with more bull shit and drama/trauma/emotional abuse than 95% of people put up with their entire lives and he's only 10 years old. Get this, he still manages to get fucking straight A's and is so damn smart and kind and empathetic/sympathetic...he has his ups and downs like everyone else but the both of us have very very very low lows because of what we've had to do the past 5 years now. However, I got a lawyer, got 50/50 custody (ex wife emptied my bank account and changed locks the week after I came home from military and sued me for custody with my own severance money) and now she can't do anything with my permission or approval and I refuse to move him from this school district or let her move from the home she's in now (unless she moves within our school district which is fine...she doesn't even live in this district now). I digress, once again, you have found a soft spot for me with this band and this song was one of the first tracks my son listened to on his own and broke it down in his own mind and took what he learned applying it to his own world/life and it was a beautiful thing to watch. #WorldPeace and #Respecttoall
