    You need to have a load to get a meaningful voltage drop test on the terminal connection. Ideally, you could just get a load tester that will draw 100A from 12V, connect it to the terminals, and then measure between the battery post and terminal, while briefly switching in the load. That will reveal any marginal connections.
    Wouldn't have bothered with that corroded car, because that was so bad it probably would show a big drop with just a dome light on.
    If you don't have a load tester, you could just have someone crank the engine briefly and make the measurement with that load. Only drawback with that is the load from the starter is unknown compared to a load tester, so it's an unknown factor.

    Thanks. I guess this could work to find where a wire is damaged or corroded too huh? Just keep tracing it back to where you find a significant drop

    Do you grease the terminals before putting it together or do you grease after everything is together? Just wondering if the grease can prevent a good connection if it's sandwiched between the two.

    • @hwingerrr5680
      @hwingerrr5680 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If the terminal is tightened properly it should displace the grease and make metal to metal contact. It's better to do it before so it fills the voids that can allow moisture to get in and set up corrosion.

      Really old video. I'd have to do a channel search to see if we made a more mordern one. This one is on my list re-do if I come across such a great volt drop example. Hopefully you dug around the channel and see the videos have improved much. Here's a video on how to search our channel: th-cam.com/video/oAeXz1nd-eQ/w-d-xo.html

      No. Not on a digital meter. I have other videos explaining this but, in short, the meter reading will have a minus sign if reversed.

      Don't forget to check both the positive and negative terminals, although the positive terminal is usually the one that gets all crudded up like that.

    I have 1V drop from alternator to the battery. The spot where positive wire connects with battery terminal is extremely hot. I haven't opened it yet, but I assume there is something wrong inside the connection and it creates resistance.

    i would call it Voltage Loss Test... but my teacher said: Don't call it a loss because it is not loss but dropping down as a resistant it is not loss.. whatever is easier for me to understand.. now on this cable to post test it should never be higher then .1V at a .25V is to much and it will act like a dead battery ...
