    I just bought this machine yesterday as my new travel machine. I had the 3160, but was very disappointed in the lighting. This has great lighting. Love the new features with this machine!

    I bought this machine in lieu of the Bernina 330. It is easy to sew and has great stitches, lots of accessories. Includes walking foot. Very Happy with this purchase.

    I purchased this machine. Prior to this I had a Babylock. I find that
    the Skyline S5 sews quietly and produces a good stitch. It has easy to
    use features and operating it is quite easy and convienient. I really
    like that I can open and access parts of the machine that I could not
    with the Babylock however with all that said I find that the machine
    does not like multiple layers of fabric. I have read and researched
    all product information and ensured that I am using the correct needle
    with the correct settings however the machine still bogs up when quilt
    blocks entail multiple layers of fabric and stitching becomes very
    short. The feed dogs do not seem to be able to effectively pull the
    fabric through on their own and you may find that you have to pull the
    fabric through to assist the feed dogs. I have already completed one
    quilt with this machine and this is the only complaint I have. If it
    wasnt for this one fault I would believe that Janome has produced the
    perfect mid level machine

    Hi Amy, I love my Janome Skyline S5 but I'm trying unsuccessfully to embroider a label for a quilt I just made. I can program the words I want to include on the label, but I can't seem to get the words on a straight line. They seem to slant down. I have tried hard to keep the fabric from shifting while it's embroidering the letters, but it doesn't seem to help all that much... Do you know how I can correct this issue? I used the satin stitch foot as recommended and I used a backing on the fabric to give it more weight. Is this a presser foot adjustment problem perhaps? Any advice you can give would be appreciated.

    Love this machine so far...learning a lot. Wondering about ruler foot for the Skyline S5. Any advice, please!

    What do you think of the stitch quality? I'm not able to upgrade just yet, and I'm only beginning to quilt, but when the Skyline came out it has all the features I've been putting on my list and it looks quite perfect for my needs.

      Looks great! I wouldn't recommend a machine with poor stitch quality. The automatic thread tension works great too, even on odd thread combinations.

    Amy, I bought this machine about 5 months ago. I am confused about the programing. I want to use the O foot (1/4 inch foot) for patchwork piecing and I can't get the programing right. Can you help me? thanks in advance. I really love your videos!

    • @AmyQuilts
      @AmyQuilts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Use your O foot and the 1/4 stitch (look in the quilting section for a straight stitch with a 1/4 P next to it). You'll likely need to move your needle to the right to get an accurate 1/4" as the default is too far to the left for most. Use your stitch width to move it to the right by taking it to a higher number.

    How are the feed dogs ability to grab the very end of the fabric? I have a MS9900 and it is so lacking in the ability to catch the very beginning... even with the advanced feed dogs it boasts, and the price I paid. This would be a back-up machine to my 9900, but those feed dogs must comply. TYVM for your reply.

      I assume you mean the beginning of the fabric, as in starting from the edge. It has feed dogs in front of the needle, as well as a single hole stitch plate so you can change to that when piecing to avoid having the fabric go down in the wide zigzag opening, plus adjustable presser foot pressure. All these things affect how well fabric feeds from the edge, and I find it does quite nicely, especially when I make sure to change my needles before they start to dull.

    Hi, where was this machine made and how much was spent to purchase? Thanks.

    Hi Amy! You explain me please, what is the replacement of the needle plate..? When I buy the machine, I'll have to get another needle plate, apart from bringing the machine? Is a needle plate for straight stitch, another for other types of sewing stitch? Any advice would sure be appreciated. Thank you!.

    • @AmyQuilts
      @AmyQuilts  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It comes with another needle plate as well as the standard needle plate.

    Hello again Amy! I'd like to know how many hours does this machine last for patchwork working? And how many layers of jeans cloth can it sew? Thank you for your attention.... :)

    I am having a problem with the bobbin nesting when I begin sewing. Technician where I bought machine said when I use the automatic cutter to pull fabric after cutting to the left when you take it from under pressure foot. It works on machine at store but not on mine. When you finish sewing and pull fabric out of machine should top thread be straight down through needle hole in the plate?

    • @AmyQuilts
      @AmyQuilts  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you've stitched off the edge of your fabric before using the cutter, the top thread will still be down in the needleplate. If you cut and the needle went through fabric when it cut, the top thread will likely pull out to the top when you pull the fabric out. In my experience, there will be a tiny loop of bobbin thread when you begin stitching after using the cutter as the thread tail has to go somewhere when released from the cutter. It shouldn't be an actual nest, just a twist at the start of your stitching. In projects where that would be an issue, either use a 'leader' scrap when starting, or pull the bobbin thread up to the top before starting. If you are getting a full blown thread nest, there's some other issue going on. Take samples to your dealer so they can see what you are talking about.

    Is there any size for the bobbins we use for this machine...coz when I bought plastic bobbins that was little smaller in size than the ones they have along with the machine

    • @AmyQuilts
      @AmyQuilts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I recommend getting Janome branded bobbins. All plastic Janome brand bobbins are the same size for all of their machines that use plastic bobbins. Besides being sure you'll get the right size, Janome bobbins aren't your typical plastic. They are heavier and spin smoother in the bobbincase. Hello Amy
    Thanks for review..I have got some qiestions about the janome s5 machine. Actually, I find it difficult to have flat stitches on a basic coton fabric (i use only one layer just to test the machine). Even if I change the tension of the bobbin thread, i still have waves on the fabric.
    It is useally possible to manually adjust the tension of the hook spool but with this machine no adjustement is possible...do you know how i can fix the issue to have perfect flat stiches ?

    Thank you for the video Amy. I noticed when you were free motion quilting, it appear to be easier for you to move the fabric. I use Machingers gloves & Super Glide sheet. I have the feed dogs down, stitch length 00, width 3.0, tension auto, pressure 5, stitch speed in the middle, aurifil thread, new needle, needle plate is the one that was on the machine (not the extra one). I am using cotton fabric & thin cotton batting. I feel the pressure foot is super close to the fabric & makes it difficult for smooth quilting. Do I have something set not right? Is your pressure foot set at a lower number?

    • @AmyQuilts
      @AmyQuilts  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With the hopping foot, there's a certain minimum speed you need to go at in order to have that foot not feel like it's grabbing the fabric. I am a big fan of the Janome Convertible Free Motion Foot set for this machine, as it is a gliding foot instead of a hopping foot and the height can be adjusted on the foot itself. (I've also had a lot of fmq practice.)

      It should be disappointing for embroidery as it doesn't include embroidery on the S5.
