Nice vid. The actuator on my 03 M took a dump and won't lock shut anymore. Found a used one on ebay before I watched your vid, otherwise I would have searched your items for it. Thanks!
Wonderful instructions. Thanks. Subscribed. One question. I know the bmw's can be tricky. I don't have a problem opening it, I have a problem closing it. My battery in my key is out and I am not sure if there are steps to getting it to lock without just shutting it. ie door must be closed, must hit button inside the car?
based on your symptoms, seems like your lock actuator is fine, you need to replace the trunk latch because its not catching on the hook to close it. Also, it could be that the trunk was replaced at one point and it wasn't aligned when it was reinstalled. I would recommend aligning the trunk and then replacing latch.
I can't understand where sits the actual button. My button is not opening the trunk, the metal key works, the remote control button works fine, just the button on the trunk itself doesn't work anymore... I saw that when I press the outside physical button, there's a plastic plate moving the motion to somewhere inside. I hear a mechanical click, but it doesn't open. Is the actual electrical button on this actuator that your're showing?
Love your step by step videos they're super helpful. But maybe you can help me out. So a code came up on my 01 330i to replace the camshaft position sensor. So I did the that but the car still acts funny. I have a noticeable power loss and it takes a little longer to start. Also my traction control light is on. I read online that once you do the sensor that you need to clear the code. If I clear the code will that really bring my car back to life? Would a tune up help her out? Maybe sparkplugs and a change in fluids ??? Thanks
I feel like screaming to you guys. I have never seen anybody do this without removing the tool kit holder first. All it takes is to remove two Philips screws securing the plastic hinge to the trunk lid. If an idiot like me can figure that out, you should be able to do it too. If you do that, then the whole lid liner removes easily.
I am about to replace the trunk actuator/latch. Fortunately, i had installed a manual override before the actuator crapped, so i can actually open the trunk to do the job. But this is my question: Is the emergency release cable inside the trunk not connected to the mechanical latching mechanism? I saw you disconnecting the white key cable in your video, and my car (2002 BMW 320i) doesn't have a key cable, but i believe they all have an emergency cable release for when somebody gets himself locked inside by a mob hitman. I didn't see you disconnecting the emergency cable.
so my actuator works, but it unlocks and then relocks the trunk. so if i'm standing at the trunk and use my key to unlock i can lift of the trunk after the first click. but if i push the button inside the car, then walk back to the trunk, it will be locked again. so there's a double noise when i press the button or key to unlock my trunk. any idea how i can adjust this to work better?
very uncommon for lock actuator to do this. Based on information, you might need to replace your lock actuator. Pretty affordable price and not hard to install.
Hi, I had the same problem. It is not the lock actuator. It is actually the RUBBER BUMP STOPS, located at trunk lid. Fix: Open the trunk lid, use a pair of Needle nose pliers to turn the Bump Stops LEFT, counter-clockwise just a 1/4 turn each. Close the trunk and try opening it from the inside. It will unlock normally. Why this happens is that the Bump Stops don't push the trunk enough for it to open so it just relocks.
You are the only person on the interwebs that showed how to remove the pin. E90 trunk lock actuator motor pin removal disassembly disconnect
most people have removing that pin so we made it a point to show pin removal

Thanks for your video. By the way, what's the correct size for those three screws which lock this latch actuator?
Pretty sure it is a T30. I'll let you know when I dig into mine here in the next couple of days.

What about the emergency release cable?!
How do you put the pins back in though?

release cable is attached to actuator assembly
