I tought that playing as Wurt should give a feeling of expanding merm culture and their society but it's bare bones really. Hamlet has this with building your own city and becoming a mayor, while with Wurt it's just: "make more meatshields". It doesn't even feel right because you're not truly their leader, the King is. Maybe it's supposed to be on pair with the Pigs, their Guards and King but it doesn't provide anything new, that Bunnyman and Pigs didn't already. Devs definitely tried to add lore to it and such ideas and it not only failed in a gameplay standpoint, but it just feels like trying to utilize slightly altered Pigs. In the end, the idea was there but the execution fell on it's knees
Idk, I think she's a fun character. I like befriending merms and having higher stats, being able to go longer without eating or healing can be useful, or using the dark sword for longer. I don't expect every character to be top tier at everything, I think she's pretty average.
@@lotusfrucht111 i only wished there was more to merms. Wurt is suppose to expand upon the merm race but after doing so, it just feels like they're on pare with Pigs more then anything. Would be cool to see merms that can harvest crops or grass, fish in ponds or even just trading with you. They just feel like second Pigs...
that would be really fun. something else id like is the ability to have a little more control over merms, mabey having an item that you can use to have them all swarm and continuously attack your target and one to have them scatter and keep a distance, it would make it easier to control them and lead to them dying less
Yeah, I feel like there are a ton of jobs Wurt could make, and probably more follower mechanics she could have like using a horn or something to command through an interface. Seems like Webber should also be able to command with a whistle interface.

The problem with max chopping is that past day 100 is that you get infinite treeguards. Minions can deal with regular or birchnutters well so your stuck kiting around 4-5 guards which slows you down a lot. You could use palm cones but as you said theyre a pain to get in large numbers. The point about scaled furnaces being better than sunfish really only matters if your sticking around your base all winter. Even if you have scaled furnaces around the whole map you still need to wear insulation to not freeze. With the fish you just hold them, which for both seasons is saving you an inv slot (summer you dont have to carry extra thermal in chester, winter you dont need insulating clothes). Also throw the sunfish in your backpack and itll stay dry in spring. The extra stats do matter other then just healing less often. Your less likely to be oneshot / die in stunlock from things like cc spin or the squid rook from underground rift the shadow trio. it doesnt matter as much when her base is already 200 but lower max hp characters like max just get one tapped if you ever get hit which can be a huge pain. if you really need gold just swap characters after one ruins rush and you wont have to go back for a while. if you dont want to swap or havent made portal just turn into wonkey. I agree that the extra hunger perk doesnt do anything since you have so much surplus but that pretty much directly contradicts you saying her being locked out of meat is bad. you already have infinite food so it doesnt matter than you cant eat meat. once you get farms / stone fruit / kelp up you never have to worry about food. overall like a lot of other people have said Wurt is more of a late game jack of all trades able to do everything decently which can be very nice if you dont want to character swap all the time.
Everything you said about tree guards is correct which is why I always use birchnuts and bearger. I have come to realize that my scaled furnace point is easily misunderstood. What I was trying to say is that as a world gets older and older the more scaled furnaces you can afford to make and there comes a point where you can just have one everywhere at which point it turns into a more convenient method. I SINCERELY don’t think high stats does you much good, as I said, I think it’s just a decent QOL ability. And finally about character switching, if you’re truly interested in using a cheap and effective method then you have no excuse to not use the portal since doing so is pretty cheap. You don’t have to do it “all the time”, most of the methods I suggested as a better alternative to merms are things you build once and never have to touch the character again
Here’s a few things I have realized I got wrong/realized I should point out. 1. Live fish do not spoil faster while wet 2. You’re probably going to be farming stone fruit for rocks which will give you excessive food 3. Butterfly wings do give the hunger bonus
Its funny that I'm doing a wurt play through. right as this comes out. So its nice to hear a perspective that sees her so poorly. There is certainly points that you talk about that is true. Wurt being unable to access some of the better food dishes. Bosses are strong against groups of allies making merms not as useful. And that her buildup is really slow. So Identifying these really does help to figure what can be worked on for her updates. But it still should not break her character just cause other characters have better quality of lifes for combat. She does offer some really nice quality of life for standard survival that is really great. Having that bigger stomach and health pool. While I was playing her half the time it wasn't even full! That is something that people may sacrifice better foods for. And its not like she is the worst at combat she has access to everything that every character can use and the player can adapt. Empirically you have proven that she is not better than other resource gatherers But those gatherers also require a different mindset to play as so does Wurt I find that characters that deviate from the norms of how Dst is played are usually seen as unfavorable or bad just because the perks they provide don't compare to what exists currently.(walter wurt worm) They have to fit within the current ideals of what is strong. Hence why wanda doesn't seem to fit into this just because of her special weapon and bonus damage. But there is a reason there is a saying of trying to walk in another persons shoes. Of course its hard because we immediately call back to our own bias to quickly draw a conclusion. Your analysis did bring up some of the weakpoints of wurt for sure. But that does not mean she is not strong in her own sense. It just takes a certain type of player to really maximize her. And with your thoughts here in this video I think we are a few steps closer to achieving that!
As I said, I’m open to being convinced the character is good but currently EVERYTHING under the sun suggests she’s bad. Yes you can still use things available to all characters but as I said “the methods of get things done which she unlocks… are simply worse than what you could otherwise be doing”
@eberferatu2324 well I think that would not be possible to be able to convince you. Just because of the video itself. It looks like you have found the optimal ways to complete the goals of the game using other characters. And judged them all based on numbers. And yeah those numbers don't lie. But what's lacking is the human element and in the video you were not going to discuss that. But I think it would be great to hear your feelings about the character. Outside of just numbers. I've noticed that when playing certain characters I have a much different game plan for each of them. Instead of each of them playing the same way So that is what I think would be great to hear. What is your main focus in the game and how does that deviate from character to character?
TBH I don't like these kinds of comparisons. Wurt is a very creative character who encourages you to take different apporaches when solving different problems in dst. She is not a meta character for rushing everything, if you play this game just to end a run in 100 days after killing all bosses constantly stressing your guts out to be as fast as possible then pick Wolfgang and forget about any other character. Wurt is a perfect character for players who intentionally slow down a little bit, and she's very rewarding to play with. And no, she isn't "extremally underpowered". For each character in this game you can find another who does a better job at a particular thing. Wurt is simply ballanced.
Wurt is extremely bland, this is coming from a wurt main. She has literally NOTHING new. The extent of her merm kingdom THE ENTIRE POINT OF HER CHARACTER, is a merm and a merm+, why couldn’t we have like fisher Merms or something like that, something that hasn’t already been automated like chopping. She takes so much work and such little pay off
@@dextops702 if Wurt is "extremely bland", who's fancy then? Wolfgang with literally just double damage and faster working? Wortox with teleports and healing? What on Earth do you want from a character not to feel similar to others?
@@PanJakubPuchaty Wolfgang is bland yes, wortox less so since quick teleports are good for early game and have actual utility. Wurt doesn’t change anything because her perks are useless and even if you use them she does things other characters already have
I said this on discord but I think it is probably worth pointing out here that non-Wurt players probably wouldn't WANT her to be efficient or even the best, because it would suck. The way Merms function is that they do pretty much everything for you at the cost of setup - if they were optimal they would trivialise every fight you use them for. Think about it - why would you eber take the risk of tentacles, or yawning bearger - if Merm guards carried none of those risks while also being just as good if not better. I think the key to changing her for the better would lie in buffs to merm guards when in a group. That having been said, I find merm guards to be quite practical in the late-game as-is, although this is probably a product of me playing with friends. Our preferred method of logging is using evergreens with the maxwell on diggind duty, the merm guards on treeguard and chopping duty, and a woodie on board crafting duty. The combined strength ends up being very good since the guards excell at dealing with guards and chopping while maxwell is able to focus on digging. It's also practical in the way of guards to go on a "boss run". I.e you have the merms kill bee queen, then run over to dfly and kill her too, then summon twins and take care of them as well. If you're the type who likes to farm them on CD this is much less hassle than dealing with pan flutes and/or tentacles, in the case of dfly and bee queen they straight up kill the boss unassisted, while twins mostly need some good movement on a beefalo. That will obviously not be practical in the early game, but IMO Wurt being incredible in the early game would be unhealthy for the balance of the game, since she'd end up edging out pretty much every single other character. I definitely want to see a world where Wurt is improved in terms of lategame power + is given more content to play with, but I do not want to see a world where she's outperforming other characters with barely any setup. If she's gonna be the best QOL-based char, combat char, resource char etc, then she should have to work hard to obtain that power.
This is all true but I think the player should still get rewarded for all that setup to get a full base running. I say this as a non-Wurt main. Webber is a lot less well-rounded but his mobs are way stronger and easier to set up. You can get nurse spiders within the first 8 days, not rush but CLEAR the ruins before day 15, and then finally get your late-game army set up as soon as you surface. Not many bosses (e.g. Celestial Champion) can take on 10 nurse spiders, 25 spitters, 8 dangling depth spiders. Hell, you can skip ruins and just surface the spitters from the caves and have a perfectly fine late game army by day 10.
@@cheesedust-n3wWell, Wurt does have more perks related to long term base building. You win some you lose some. Webber is probably more suitable for quick and easy boss rush though
one neat idea i had for her skill tree would be a path around new buildings to make your merm village feel more alive and scale better such as being able to make shops ran by merms sort of like hamlet or a merm crown craft that can be used to auto recruit merms nearby or another path focused around combat like making merm guards stronger in groups or giving wurt a 10% speed increase while the king is alive
100% agree, good idea. I wanna see all sorta merm jobs. I want Merm shops. I want Merm fishermen. I want Merm criminals who pop in every now and again. I want Merm guard to be capable of actually patrolling like a guard. Hell id wanna see even Merm gatherers. There's so much potential for her skill tree update. And i want it all to be expensive >:). I love the idea of a lategame functioning alive Merm City.
On merms vs tentacles: Merms won't try to murder you when you go to collect the loot. Merms are mobile and avoid some damage. Tentacles and Merms are BOTH weak to bosses with AoE. Highly mobile bosses dont' get hardcore DPSd by the tentacles since they tend to go back underground when they don't have a target, and still have to emerge once they do. Frankly, merms are more versatile at the cost of raw power. Further, certain bosses its just smarter to not bring a merm army. Klaus being the prime example. I spent a lot of time typing more, but it basically sums up as "Yes, in a vacuum Wurt seems weak, but really she's versatile and her downsides are easy to navigate, and she's flat out stronger than several characters across the board."
Im gonna provide my perspective on this as a person who's started playing Wurt maybe around a month ago. Let me preface this by i think Wurt is the #1 best character in DST that can do everything well. I am going quite in depth specifically on what i disagree with so i will not be giving my reasons for why i believe her to be the #1 strongest character as it'd be not only too long but also not to the point. If there's something in the video that i did not respond to its because i agree and dont have much to add. #0 Context. So far in my world i am around 204 days in and am playing casually not taking stuff seriously, i mention this because i could've set up far far earlier and was spending a lot of my time messing around. I only started really setting up merm guards the year before at around day 150-ish. I had 28 merm guards and have spent most of my 150 days until that point decorating and setting up farms even if most of them are unnecessary since i find that more fun. At this point i can amass dozens of merm guards in just a few days. I have thousands of logs so the wood isn't a problem due to merms being the best most consistent option for logging (will explain further), merm wars solve the tentacle spot issue as that's infinite tentacle spots through Merm King and twig/grass farms solve the spear issue. I can place as many merm guards as i wish to scale infinitely. #1 Setup On this point i want to question how expensive Wurt truly is to set up if by day 150 in a casual decorative world where i could've gotten to this point by like day 50 i already have access to as many merms can fit on the map. I think its important to note that Wurt's army is a one time fee to beat every boss off cooldown for the entirety of your gameplay with 0 effort on your part. I distinctly remember taking my 28 merms beating Dfly, Bee Queen and like 5 moose gooses only stopping because i was unable to find more bosses to beat. All in about a day or two without losing a single merm and without assisting them. all it cost me was about a stack of seeds which the merm king gives you thousands of anyways. Saying that there's Cheaper methods such as tentacle traps doesn't account for it being needed to be set up for every single boss you intend to farm with them as they are stationary or having to replace them once they die because the will die and frequently from my experience when using them to kill a boss. Setting up once to beat every boss is far better than setting up every boss individually and then having to do maintenance work on the set up to keep farming the boss. #1.5 Celestial Champion -This is not really important, just a sidenote. 120 merms for Celestial champion seems really off, I've seen it easily being done with 70 with phase 1 dying in 5 seconds, phase 2 in 10 seconds and phase 3 in 47 seconds (all merms died with boss at 3.5k, had to help out). Skipping 2.75 phases of the celestial champion fight for a stack of seeds or two seems really worthwhile. This is speculation but you might've had too many merms to the point where they couldn't attack efficiently and kept body blocking each other leading to the phases being too drawn out resulting in more merms being taken out by the large AOE attacks as they happen more frequently. This is the same reason why you dont want 100 spiders on Webber to take on bosses and prefer more like 40 as more spiders can actually mess up your spiders strategy (given you know what you're doing)- #2 Log Farming The gap between Maxwell Bearger and Wurt is there but its nowhere near as big as you make it out to be when done properly. I decided to do the replicate the test, 100 trees but with more care taken into it. #1 I added marsh turf to the farming area during Wurt's test, this increases Wurt's speed by 30% and was forgotten in the test which saved me 15 seconds compared to no marsh turf. You might be thinking that you could also use cobble for normal players but you cant plant pine cones on cobble so its a Wurt only buff. #2 I included the use of a lazy forager as its cheap to use and is a ruin item, you used the bone helm which is significantly harder to get so i deem this more than fair. I also applied the Lazy forager to the Maxwell test and the Bearger test since it otherwise wouldn't be equal as anyone can use a Lazy Forager. The rankings were Bearger at #1 with a time of 3:01 Maxwell at #2 running in at 3:24 and Wurt at #3 with a time of 3:29. It should be noted that i was assisting during the Maxwell test, i did not stand around like in the video and was wearing a bone helm for a 6th shadow puppet. Yes there is a gap with Wurt being the slowest but its by such an insignificant margin that the speed at which the task gets done is nearly irrelevant. Infact, i believe that due to Merms being available 100% of the time compared to Bearger whos missing for a season and is more inconvenient for the other 2 seasons or Maxwell who requires both tools and extra nightmare fuel that Wurt does not need makes Wurt the most consistent cheap method of logging. Sure she is slower by a bit but she makes up for that in consistency and cost of running the farm. (This section by itself took me like hours to test, i had to redo it so many times for accurate timings 😮💨) #3 Hunger I think its kinda weird how Wortox surviving off of only meat at 0.5x food multiplier is a testament towards meats effectiveness but Wurt being capable of surviving even at a 0.1x food multiplier with 0 issue isn't. One of Wurt's best strengths is her ease of stat management as she has access to infinite kelp which she suffers no downsides from. I did some calculations to see just how far i can push one of Wurt's biggest strengths and Wurt can survive off of literally just kelp alone on a default world (so no setting kelp to more/tons) on a 0.1x hunger multiplier for an infinite amount of days. And that's not even mentioning all the random stuff you can eat that randomly spawn like carrots, butterfly wings (just plant a flower in the middle of your base) and seeds. Trying to contest Wurt in Hunger management is like trying to contest Wolfgang in DPS. #4 Thermal fish This one i dont understand (apart from cave exploring, For caves thermals and scaled furnaces are far better) how it could be seen as worse. I understand the availability of ice Chester but that doesn't make him a better option just because an alternative option exists. Having a guy follow you around constantly is gonna be real annoying depending on what you have to do while also being susceptible to dying removing the infinitely cool thermal stone effect on top of still needing to replace the thermal stones makes ice Chester outright worse than an ice bream. Comparatively an Ice bream cannot die to random encounters like Chester, an ice bream does not need replacing and also isn't an annoying follower which gets in your way all the time. The Sunfish argument is flawed as well imo. Again i understand that scaled furnaces are available and only rise in availability as the world goes on but how does that replace a Sunfish? Scaled Furnaces are immobile sources of heat, am i to believe that placing scaled furnaces all over a world to stand next to is an easier more worthwhile option than fishing *one time* for an infinite durability thermal stone? And this doesn't even mention how whenever you're cold you are then forced to stand next to it wasting tons of time. By now you're likely thinking the obvious thing to do which is placing thermal stones underneath each one so the immobility issue is solved but that on top of the giant resource sink into placing dozens of scaled furnaces all over the world just brings back the issue with thermal stones that thermal fish aimed to solve in the first place, that they must be replaced, making it all redundant. Sunfishes by comparison are fully mobile and can be brought anywhere, dont need any replacement and are far easier to set up than dozens of scaled furnaces all over the map. And if you really needed immobile sources of heat/cooling down then place tin fishing bins around the world. #5 Spring What does it matter that it being wet makes the sunfish spoil faster? 3 days instead of 4 is irrelevant when you have multiple of them. Sunfish alongside ice breams spawn in groups, if you're catching one you're catching multiple. No Wurt player only catches 1. #6 Marsh Turf I find it very funny how a 30% free speed bonus that can spammed around the entire map for the cheapest price possible (the recipe calls for rot for Christ's sake) is viewed as a very minor buff just because a beefalo exists in the same plane as Wurt. Speed buffs in DST are highly rare and sought after by quite literally everyone. Everyone running foaming at the mouth for a walking cane early on in servers for that 25% speed bonus, Wolfgang mains sobbing about Wolfgang losing his 10% speed bonus, Woody mains rejoicing at gaining 10% speed on his moose form, Wx-78 mains spamming the ever living crap out of speed circuits and everyone admitting that's his best build. But now that its Wurt its suddenly "a very minor upside"....? All because Beefalo's simply... *exist?* Weird thing about it too is that the only kinda beefalo that even significantly outruns a Wurt is a Rider temperament beefalo with a Glossammer saddle, its 1 class of beefalo that sacrifices everything for speed and its barely faster than what Wurt can manage. Ontop of that Rider Beefalo's are meant purely for riding and cant even fight which is a half the reason why you want that speed in the first place as it makes 90% of boss fights a total joke. In Conclusion i whole heartedly disagreed with almost everything. I think a lot of the points in the video were not explored as much as they should've and were absolutely riddled with confirmation bias. I dont mean that in an insulting way, no disrespect to you personally, its just my criticism.
I’ve been doing quite a lot of replying so I’m sorry but I’m not going to write an entire reply. What really stood out to me here is the celestial champion point, which is something not even the long time Wurt players tried to oppose. As I said, I’m open to being convinced that the character’s actually good but I’d have to see it to believe it. As for the sunfish argument, I phrased it as “as a world gets older…” referring to worlds going into the hundreds and thousands at which point scaled furnaces and thermal stones become pretty negligible cost wise while being more convenient. As for marsh turf and beefalo, yes, I do think beefalo are just THAT good.
this was actually very insightful, i came away from the video thinking that he sounded harsh yet probably right, but your arguments make alot of sense, especially the beefalo stuff as a wendy main
I mean if you compare wurt to wilson sure she's great. However if you compare her to other characters she kinda falls off because her perks were supposed to be an advantage over every character in the game, atleast at a specific trait. Like for exemple the fastest character and higher stats are wx-78, the best farming is wormwood, the best early game clear and bee queen killer is wendy, the hardest character is wes, the best resource gathering and crowd control in bosses is maxwell, the best damage/speedrunner/boss killer is wolfgang, the best explorers and map travellers are woodie/wanda/wortox . Then you have some cases like wigfrid, walter, webber, wickerbottom and warly which are characters that don't have a specific thing that they are the best at but do have different playstyles that makes you change the way you play the game, and that's because they have a good personality to gameplay ratio. You don't change that much your style when playing the other characters I mentioned earlier except for wormwood, wanda and wortox which are amazing designs cause they are good in both areas. Wurt is fundamentally a bad design but could be way better. She's not the best at anything and her downsides are counterintuitive since she recieves 33% bonus hunger from veggies and fruits but it's the only thing she can eat so what's the point of having a diet if veggies are tastier than meat?? It's like the same as wortox recieving 100 hunger per soul but he loses 10 sanity as an analogy, then you'll never eat food again so it's countering itself you know what I mean? Then you got Willow which is a very very old character and couldn't keep up with the whole wave of new updates since the devs didn't know how or where to place her because of griefers and Winona which is sadly another bad design. Walter would be a bad design but I think he's good as he is, just a different way to play dst. The only thing that changes playing wurt is you can't eat meat (but veggies are better so it makes no sense), you can't trade with the pig king and can't get close to pigs which sucks and has no good thing about it except her being a monster and random merms which are too resource intense to even be cared about. Trust me I have atleast 100 hours of wurt and for me everything about her is bad except her personality which is very cute.
@@eberferatu2324 No worries, i didn't expect a full reply. I just wanted you to read my view on the subject. Thanks for reading 👍 Also my timings were real far off for how fast the merms kill Celestial Champion in my original comment (i took something at face value that i really shouldn't have🤦♂) so completely disregard those timings, that was my bad. Edit: I've actually learned of a more effective way to fight Celestial champion with merms since typing out my original comment. It requires around 70 - 80 merms once again but this time they can actually finish them off themselves with no help from the player using strategy. Merms can actually kill Celestial Champion with some tactics.
@@swiyss I think your perspective on the character is a bit... pessimistic maybe is the word? I agree with almost everything you said early on like Wx-78 being faster, Wormwood being a better farmer, her not having the best early clear for bee queen, her not being the hardest, her not being the best resource gatherer, crowd control character, damage character nor the best explorer but that's not the way id look at Wurt. The way id look at Wurt is this. Is she as fast as Wx-78? No but she is incredibly fast to the point where she meets the threshold to beating bosses that require speed amps like the Shadow Pieces easily. Can Wurt farm as good as Wormwood? No but does she need to? All her hunger problems get solved by kelp alone. Farming is a trap for Wurt players that dont know how to Wurt. Does she have the best clear for bee queen? No but why would i need the fastest bee queen clear? The game isn't about speedrunning, its about taking advantage of the worlds resources and doing as much as you can with them. Wurt can perma farm BQ by the end of your first year for eternity. Is Wurt the best resource gatherer? Probably not, id still give it to Maxwell but does that mean she's bad at it? Does that mean i should swap to Maxwell to gather resources? In no way shape or form. She's quite literally 5 seconds slower than Maxwell with the benefit of cheaper cost of running the farm(seeds instead of nightmare fuel + tools) while also requiring less setup (a location with merm shacks compared to Maxwell getting a Bone Helm). Does she have the best damage? Well not by herself but with her army her dps rises to easily above 2,000+ while Wolfgang is capped at 1,872 dps (to my knowledge) Do you see what i mean? Like yes i agree that Wurt is not #1 best at every category but what she is, is an extremely good well rounded character. She can quite literally do every job so well that it can compete with the #1's that were specifically made for their task. Wurt is not bad at anything she does. The only downside the character has is setup which is exaggerated and a veggie diet which as time goes on becomes irrelevant. And i think this is perfect design for the character as well. Having Wurt be #1 at everything she does and explaining it away with "it requires set up though" would make Wurt essentially DST's god past the first year on par with actual modded characters. Her being #2 best at everything means that other characters can still shine at what they're designed to shine on while leaving Wurt still being a satisfactory character to play as due to her set up still rewarding her for going through it just not at 1 specific task but EVERY task. I mean if playstyle constitutes a good character design (like Wormwood, Wanda and Wortox as you said) then why isn't Wurt at the top of the list? When playing as Wurt you have to fundamentally change every single inch of your playstyle. The way you eat, how you heal, to how you gain sanity, which farms you build, how you take down bosses, how you build your base, how you deal with temperature, how you deal with seasons, hell Wurt is such a different gameplay experience that you cant even interact socially with other players how you would with any other character. Wurt is easily the most different character on the roster and i know so because i legit had to research Wurt for hours before i even started playing her so i wouldn't be completely lost. Im kinda confused on what you meant with the veggie 33% boost point, so i apologize if i misunderstood. If im understanding right you're saying its redundant to give her the downside of an only veggie diet if they're gonna make veggies give more than meat anyway making meat a useless option since you'd only want to eat veggies regardless of the veggie diet due to the 33% boost? If i understood it right and that's what you meant then i can explain it. Its not redundant because her downside of not being able to eat meat isn't suppose to effect hunger. As i said in my original comment the hunger stat on Wurt might as well not exist since its so easy to manage, i haven't worried about the hunger bar not once since like day 20 on my world. The downside of not being able to eat meat is mainly a downside affect healing during combat as 90% of healing dishes are meat based. This downside is actually pretty significant early and can actually kill you, starts getting irrelevant by midgame since you should have farms set up to counteract it but not fully counter it and is non existent by lategame due to jellybeans. This downside is meant to encourage the player to rely on merms more than normal as Wurt to fight her battles as she struggles with healing early on which then explains the playstyle to the player without directly needing to say it. Honestly i think all Willow needs is a good skill tree. Willow as she is now only serves the purpose of teaching new players to deal with sanity management. She can quickly regen sanity with fire and when at low sanity she can also rely on Bernie. She also serves the purpose of helping new players deal with darkness due to her nearly free light. Problem is that Sanity and especially darkness are just not a big issues even for new players. New players learn pretty quickly how to deal with it and having Willow a character entirely dedicated to helping with a problem that is quickly solvable even by new players is just not a very good use of a character slot. Its like making a character that teaches you about crafting items. Although Bernie is actually pretty unique and can do quite a lot more than people realize. The Bernie side of the skill tree would make or break Willow. Yea Winona is just too much of a swap character. You swap in, get 100% of her benefits and swap back. Its unfortunate really. A solution would be to make her generators only capable of being powered by her but idk how the community would react to it as a lot of farms rely on Winona's contraptions. I actually quite like Walters design, its a very different playstyle with its own purpose that can actually provide a solution for players who struggle with default combat. All his little side perks also make him pretty immersive. Playing Walter feels like you're an actual boy scout out in a unfamiliar world. Hes cool. I mean i believe you that you have 100 hours on Wurt and i agree with your early takes. I just disagree with how you view her, i have like the complete opposite opinion lol. I think her design is top tier and her personality is amazing as well. Wurt despite me only having 30 hours on her is by far my favorite character. I love playing as a cute lil merm running around pretending im the Merm Queen rebuilding Merm society as i end the war with the pigs, I even have like Merm military camps set up and have a whole design thought up for them with dreadstone walls and intricate road designs. Eventually ill build some Merm cities as well as 1 pig city :). The immersion aspect of Wurt is a 10/10 for me. The gameplay is like a 9/10 (Klei for the love of god add a singular good veggie crockpot recipe. Make leafy meat crockpot dishes veggies as well, Wigfrid mains got enough good crockpot dishes) and her design is a 10/10 as well, i adore every aspect of Wurt and am probably gonna play her till the end of time. Also sorry for it being long again, i meant to make this shorter since i didn't want 2 comments reaching the word cap but i went off anyways.
She performs like a standard beardless Wilson on the first Autumn, Winter, and Summer. In spring, I dunno why other people let Wurt freeze to death. You won't even get to have 100 percent wetness in spring if you're experienced in playing DST. At most, you'll only get at least 50 or 80 if the fight is really long. Players should learn to use the deerclops eyebrella or even a standard umbrella.
I'm not far into the video, but how you assess Wurt is astronomically unfair. You take each one of her strengths and pit them against one character's pro, or what you deem a "superior" strategy that is generally universal to all characters, but not only that, so obscure to the point that the said tactics haven't been used since 2017. You nitpick. - Tentacles do better against bee queen, therefore merms are bad. - catapults do better against fuelweaver, therefore merms are bad - Why fight toadstool when you can dupe napsacks? Merms are bad. I don't know what you achieve from this. Wurt is powerful in her own right. With merm deaths comes merm germination. You can build from their drops. The only thing that could happen as a result of the success of this video is that wurt gets buffed. As for a buff, she will never get as big a playerbase as the more relatable characters by virtue of being human. She's divisive but that's fine. She has a healthy enough playerbase and a strong enough playstyle to be able to do what she wants to do and successfully. In this video, I don't think you've played devils advocate against the strats that are allegedly "Superior" to merms. It's a weird video.
All the methods I said are better can be built and kept with character switching (tentacles, catapults, tree totems). As I said, merms are innately bad for one time boss kills so I’m going off the assumption that character switching is already available. But if you’d rather kill bee queen using 100 boards, 20 tentacle spots 40 flint, 80 twigs and 120 grass instead of 2 stacks of grass walls, 7 tentacle spots and 14 papyrus then you can be my guest. What am I trying to achieve??? I’m just sharing my opinion and thing I think of as objective facts. Though I do hope to somehow contribute to a better skilltree
@@eberferatu2324 There's a flexibility with merms that other characters don't excel at particularly. Those 100 boards have been earned simply by playing the way wurt does and typically can be earned before you even could smell bearger. I think she could earn her way to a comfortable winter bee queen. The merms do more than just fight. Wurt's entire gameplan is to spread the amount of merms in the world and generally, her kit allows for resources required to germinate merm population. It's a snowball effect. Once you make merm king, you can start getting tentacle spots from smart ocean fishing. As for her gold use, she doesn't need that much by virtue of her merms. They do most of the mining and chopping and it saves on the durability of gold tools, saving what you would need gold for. Furthermore, ryftstalls. Mining them can get very expensive and time consuming. In the post game, it's quite a hassle for wilson tier characters to mine other than having a weather pain at all times. Something else that can be mitigated with a litany of merms is just getting them armored. When it comes to bee queen, you shouldn't need way too many merms if a portion of them are kitted up with bee hats. When it comes to saying which character is strong and which is weak, I don't think it's enough to compare them to characters who "outclass" them in specific niches. As for character switching, there is an element of RNG factored in. It's rare, but not so uncommon that players will not have their celestial orbs spawn for an extended period of time. An approach to assess how a character fares, It's important to compare them not just to the strong and meta ones, but to all of them. Wurt is a better lumberjack than wilson, wendy, wigfrid, willow walter and wormwood. She's also a better miner than the mentioned characters. She arguably has a more successful bee queen than all of them. It's all about her tasks relative to everyone. Not just the major players. Hell, Woodie might do most of everything better than what wurt does, but his bee queen is inferior and it's an important fight to make life more civilized in the constant. You've made points that are correct, but some context is omitted. I think that wurt fans generally know what they want of their character and many of them agree that she is already plenty strong. I've tried making suggestions to improve wurt, but it's not advice they necessarily appreciate as I'm not a wurt "main" but I play her in my top 5. She's 4th after wolfgang. There's definitely a place for her at the top. She's fun and quite powerful. Perhaps she is a little expensive when it comes to setup, but there is an element of comfort and safety in her playstyle that is very competitive against the big dogs.
@@chirsgw5360 "Furthermore, ryftstalls. Mining them can get very expensive and time consuming. In the post game, it's quite a hassle for wilson tier characters to mine other than having a weather pain at all times." Oh, you mean the item that you can comfortably get 6-12 every spring by having an automatic Volt Goat farm and killing a couple of Moose/Goose-s? "Something else that can be mitigated with a litany of merms is just getting them armored. When it comes to bee queen, you shouldn't need way too many merms if a portion of them are kitted up with bee hats." So you need what? 10 merms? Are you going to gather 80 silk to armor them? "Wurt is a better lumberjack than wilson, wendy, wigfrid, willow walter and wormwood. She's also a better miner than the mentioned characters." And all characters, including Maxwell and Woodie are comically worse than Bearger. "She arguably has a more successful bee queen than all of them." Wendy needs like three potions, 2-3 marble suits, 4-5 Beekeeper hats (which are actually easy to get for her, since she has Abigail) and a Hambat. Wormwood can just use his spikesuit and get some more healing. Wigfrid can now use her battle spear and delete Bee Queens minions faster than she can spawn them, though at the time of you writing this comment she didn't have that so that's fair. "They do most of the mining and chopping and it saves on the durability of gold tools, saving what you would need gold for." Once again, Bearger.
@@chirsgw5360 I don't get you saying you can get 100 boards that early. Trees take quite a while to grow to actually get you 400 wood If you don't count the time to obtain that many trees yeah most likely
So man said that wurt can do everything that 4 or 5 characters and extra methods? The price is expensive yes but its one-time resource drain and it provide benefit for the long term. About Wurt seasonal fish is worse than other method, dude u can bundle 4 fish and last for the whole season. About food source, u only need to find and eat kelp for the rest of ur life no need for farming meat constantly. U said that wurt perk is late game, with experience u can set up a merm town in the first season just hire merm in the swarm to gather early logs and tentacle spot. In general, wurt don't do thing exceptional good compare to the top of the list of the very specific character, but she do better in all of the task.
As another comment wrote, she’s something of a jack of all trades master of none. With how easy character switching is there is no reason to settle for anything less than the master. As I said, I do think her seasonal perks are among her better ones, it’s just that with being able to place scaled furnaces anywhere in the late game, there’s no need to do bundling. Probably should’ve mentioned this in the video but you’re probably gonna be farming stone fruit for rocks anyway, which leaves you with a ton of excess food. I didn’t say Wurt is good late game, I said she’s credited with being good at it late game, but as the numbers tell you even then she’s easily outclasses.
Another thing about wurt is that I consider her a solo player, she can barely uses her skills to help others and others to play her, In fact, I see wu rts making bases in swamp all the time isolated from the rest of the players
1. Swamp is often right next to the oasis desert. 2. The presence of merm king causes all merms to be neutral to other players. Unfortunately they still need disguises to hire merms. 3. She can give tons of meat to other players. 4. She can give tons of resources to other players. 5. Other players can trade with pigking for her. Wurt is a super team-based character. I have no idea how you can't see that.
@@larsthememelord3383 that spoils and the king also stops existing when you don't feed him so you literally have to blow up the merms (or otherwise get rid of them) if you don't want to randomly die after a wurt player leaves. a good and robotically online wurt player, has good teamplay, but literally nobody can stay awake forever so you have to destroy the merms if you don't want to die or, be the host of the server and shut it down when the wurt leaves, which literally nobody will like you for
@@peanutsveryepicchannel8699there's a reason you don't build merms or other things directly on the base, no one's saying that you need to blow up all pigmen just because they're hostile to certain characters, it's just stupid If you have any sense of logic you'd just, not put the merms directly on the base, but if the wurts soloing and other people join into their base on a late game server, that is entirely their fault to die since wurt also likely has fish disguises in bundling wraps near the merm king for easy revival
I've always had the feeling of everything just being much more tedious when playing Wurt, without feeling super powerful once I assembled her infrastructure. But I never realized it is this severe. Thank you so much for opening my eyes, and laying down the data. ♥
The Seasonal Fish are Outclassed by WX-78's thermal and cold circuit, they make you immune to winter and summer respectively, and only need to be replaced once every 4 years. they can also be used in the caves unlike the fishes. To add Icing on the cake you can get them both in the first autumn by scanning Dragonfly and scanning a cold hound from blue hounds(set piece) or Deerclops in winter. Wx-78 also Is better at maxing your stats then using merm king if you really wanted to.
Yes, that's the only one character can do that. That's why he dont mention Wx in the video and remember u can only choose 1 or 2 perk at the time as the slot limited for circus. If you choose to use circus to overcome seasonal difficulty, u basically cannot do much other than speed as WX ( other circus isnt as good as speed). While as wurt, you are much rewarded after doing the fishing ( its boring ofc ) but u dont have to limit your choice
This was originally going to be in the video but I decided to leave it out as it forces you to STAY as one character, opposed to being able to craft/build something and then switch
This is the most stupid assessment I have seen yet. TH-cam comments were meant to be smarter after the year 2017. Did you get thawed from a cryogenic tube or something?
The circuits take up 3 whole slots though, that makes Wx-78 a horrible character to play as. Would you really play Wx-78 for thermal circuits using up half your slots making yourself significantly worse just to not use Thermal fish which has the only downside of not being available in caves? Thermal Circuits again have to be replaced, yes its almost negligible due to how infrequently you have to do it but it is worthy of note. Thermal Circuits are so bad id rather use a thermal stone and a campfire which is bare bones temperature control as Thermal Circuits sacrifice way too many slots. To explain just how bad Thermal circuits are comparatively let me give you a quick comparison. So lets say you got a Thermal circuit, a speed circuit and a stat circuit of your choice, these are the best circuits to use with what the Thermal Circuits leave you with (3 slots left). This now makes Summer/Winter Autumn 2.0, gives Wx-78 the benefit of 25% movespeed and either 50 max hp, 40 max sanity or 40 max hunger. Wx-78's base stats are 125 Hp 125 Hunger and 150 Sanity with the stat circuit making one of those stats either 175 Hp, 165 Hunger or 190 Sanity. Keep in mind Wx-78 has no significant upsides apart from his circuits so he is sacrificing literally his entire character for those buffs. Wurt on the other hand can also ignore Summer/Winter as well, has a 30% movespeed bonus while also having 250 Hp, 200 Hunger and 200 Sanity. Wx-78 is not only slower by 5% with that build, he also has significantly worse stats (75 less Hp, 75 less hunger and 50 less Sanity) and the Thermal circuit method is just plain worse unless in the caves at which point a Thermal stone outclasses it. Wurt on the other hand gets these with minor setup. Going fishing once in Winter/Summer, placing marsh turf where you need it (say a boss fight or as a road to an important place) and its cost is literal rot. Its last cost is visiting the merm king every 8 days. Unlike Wx-78, Wurt doesn't sacrifice her entire character kit for these buffs and has plenty in the back such as being a fast resource gatherer, scaling infinitely, farming bosses off cooldown, not needing to manage hunger, ignoring frogs, ignoring Spring and rain effects, (Wx-78 actively gets hurt by rain) etc.
I was originally going to leave a comment disagreeing with this video, but I realized you are objectively correct, I just don't really care about being optimal. I like to rate characters based how interesting they are to play, so I really like characters with severe downsides and interesting mechanics, and Wurt has both in my opinion. I also just generally don't like switching characters, despite how easy it is and how optimal it is. Anyways you mentioned at the start of the video that this isn't from the perspective of fun, which is all I really care about. Loved hearing a new perspective, and I'm also aware that the skill tree helped out a lot, I've been reading your replies to replies :p
Hello, not sure if you're still responding, but I am very grateful for your criticism. As DST community only really ever accepts applause rather than questioning something. I agree with your points, however I am also curious in regards to the new Skill Tree? Especially when it comes to Shadow Resurrected Merms. Since now you can give armor helmets to Merms, and have them die for you during the boss fight, yet they resurrect and keep going. Did it improve her combat capabilities, or is she still the worst? And what are your general thoughts about her skill tree?
THANK YOU! You have no idea how many people felt attacked by this! I think Wurt is much better now mostly due to shadow affinity and armor since they drastically reduce how many merms you need for bosses. Them having the ability to shovel stumps is also valuable but I’m yet to test if it’s faster than bearger
@@eberferatu2324 But is she better over other characters? Or it still just better to pick other character with better perks and some stolen Rabbit Hutches? Currently had been playing Willow and she felt like a blast to play. You just farm Killer Bees all game and blast all bosses at a range with Lunar Flame, stagger locking them from being able to retaliate (aside from Dragonfly as she is too fast). As for people being attacked, DST is a casual fanbase. A lot of people look from the fun perspective, rather than a critical one.
@@wauchi1895 Still definitely not my first choice… or second… or third… but she’s definitely MUCH better now. The once place I would consider using merms over the methods mentioned in this video is against celestial champion since the price is somewhat reasonable now and requires less maintenance than tree guards. As I already mentioned she can now (probably) rival Bearger in wood gathering but I’m sure Maxwell is still faster
i actually don't disagree overall but i'll echo some comments that your method of comparison is quite flawed and odd, imo. like, i feel like it'd be possible to argue literally anything is bad with the way you nitpick some things
I believe this sentence counters all your arguments. Jack of all trades is a master of none but is often times better than a master of one - Respectfully, a Wurt main, florp.
I played with Wurt for a little more than 900 days. If you have an average of 30-40 royal guards, you can easily do the bosses you mentioned without spending any effort or items. You can do all the bosses, including Elite Klaus, without spending almost anything. You can mock the 40 ancient weaving royal guards and kill them, minimum 40! Celestial champion, you can defeat it by working for 2 days with around 80 bullets + being a helper. The hardest one is Celestial. I think its biggest advantage is that you can do these things without having to have loads of helmets etc. like other characters. The biggest disadvantage is that the bullets do not fall into the cave and establishing a kingdom again is a big disadvantage. I think it is vital. The other biggest drawback is The food feeding mechanism is really bad, the kingdom you have established is not loyal to you, and I think it would be great if there was something like a royal ring similar to a buffalo bell that you can call whenever you want or go down to the caves.
I absolutely disagree. Her skill tree is a substantial buff and this video probably contributed to Klei’s decision of making it so. Sure, the video is outdated now but that was inevitable
The only reason I play wurt is when I want a challenge on an already completed world. Not being able to eat meat makes you want to spend more time cooking certain crockpot recipes.
I can't say I really connected the dots, but I think that boils down to comparison in saying "This exists, this is better, Wurt bad." I don't think the merms are bad by most means, they're a one time investment, and you have them permanently. In terms of log farming, Bearger only appears every autumn, Maxwell still needs nightmare fuel to farm (and the bone helm just for that 6th guy), and let's not forget that compared to someone using pigs, merms can actually help farm boulders. Fighting with an army is way easier than fighting alone with just weapons and kiting, saying "this is all better than what Wurt has" disregards that Wurt has things better than a lot of others. The thermal fish thing is so specific as you would have to be so so far into your world to just casuslly have scaled furnaces conveniently within walking distance every time your thermal stone needs heating. As far as not being able to eat meats, it really isn't that bad. I feel like saying "Wurt is underpowered" is only due to comparing to other strategies. I feel like if Wurt was better than said things mentioned, you'd say Wurt is overpowered, but I don't think any character should be objectively good while others are bad (minus Wes, that is intentional), everyone has their niche and benefits, and I think Wurt is one of the better ones, not underpowered, but underrated. I feel like it's a Woodie thing where the skill tree may potentially fix a lot of issues players have to raise the popularity, but who knows. I'd say that speaking from a logical standpoint rather than "this is better" would be better for understanding purposes, because treating the characters and strategies like there's a meta (and I'm one of those people who don't care for character swapping just to temporarily take someone else's perks) kind of takes away from picking what you like for the sake of enjoying it, as discouraging someone to play a character because "X,Y,Z is better" isn't the way to go about explaining things.
Firstly, I did talk about a couple things you mentioned. If Wurt were better than the methods I consider better then yes, I would consider Wurt OP. It’s easy to say that all characters as “equally as strong” but that simply is not the case. By criticizing a character I encourage the character to be changed which is better done now than ever through skill trees being added. My main drive in making this video was frustration with people saying what to me sounds like “Wurt is OP because she can do something other character can do but a lot of more expensive and/or slower”. Calling the character weak is by no stretch of the imagination a new idea, I was just the one to turn it into a video. I sympathize with the point about discouraging people from playing the character as I had experienced the same thing with Wortox, but my acknowledgement of the character’s weakness contributed to him getting buffed. So don’t be discouraged, rather advocate for change. Finally about “meta” and character swapping. Character swapping is something the game allows you to do, as such I will consider it. A part of this community likes optimizing the game, you’re welcome to not care but don’t tell me that that isn’t a way to enjoy the game
Ah yes as if one nightmare fuel to get five workers is significant in the slightest when that character can print nightmare fuel in mass without even needing to go insane
What I want is Klei rework the locals inhabiting the constant (like pigs, merms and bunny mans). I would love fleshed out NPC characters in my world that I can interact throughout my survival.
Me when character is not the best at everything possible. But for real this is more of a maxwell is too strong rather then wurt not being good. Wurt and maxwell are pretty much on the same level. And have very similar kits with maxwell just being too good.
Yeah, Maxwell is too good (but he has low health so it’s balanced trust me). But regarding your first point, there’s no reason to choose the second best method over the best method (especially with how easy character switching is), and since Wurt isn’t the best at anything, that leaves her in an uncomfortable spot
@eberferatu2324 I mean that's dumb. Like the logic makes no sense. Wurt has a kit that is overall better over half the cast. (This means she is bad). And has 1.5 downsides(this is unbalanced. Trust me)
Can't wait for her skill tree, you are kinda right in all your points but honestly as a Wurt main I don't even want her to be the best, I want her to be versatile and at least good at doing everything, not great, just good. If she becomes just the best in everything the game becomes kinda boring, I play dst to just chill and have a challenge every now and then when I feel like it
Btw you don't "need" the perfect character to beat dst, you just need enough armor and an ham bat, time is not an issue in this game if you are not a speedrunner and every character can do some bosses and clear the ruins just in autumn, healing food is also not an issue because blue and green caps exist in the game since you create the world (also locating these biomes in the caves is easy if you know where to look)
It's a shame that it's this way. We have a few characters that are native the Constant at this point and it sucks that Wurt, the character that gave Merms a prepose just isn't that good objectively speaking because I like Wurt. Thank you for the video. This was quite illuminating.
This video is outdated now (I’ve been meaning to add that to the title for ages). I think Wurt with the skill tree is good, although I’m yet to do much looking into it
two things I will question and critique about this video: 1. availability and flexibility: I feel wurt is a bit like woodie (or pre-skill tree woody) where he wasn't bad but he wasn't great either, a jack of many trades but a master of none, except wurt is better at everything she does. granted in a server with multiple people she can easily get outclassed, but in a solo scenario she has multiple avenues to tackle problems that only some characters can deal with easily or comfortably. I also feel like you ignored the fact that like pigs, merms can be naturally found around the world, and they are cheaper to hire, and (I think) they get hired for longer. basically, wurt isn't be best at anything, but she rarely is bad at anything either, and her perks (even her minor or secret ones) usually are to assist her playstyle, which is why they seem bad out of that context. 2. merm combat: while merms are absolutely bad for bosses (more control over them would be nice), I find them to be very good at dealing with smaller or groups of enemies, such as vargs, spiders, and to an extent beefalo. They are also really good in farms since they only eat vegetables and fruits, menaing you can easily place them near spiders or pigs and basicaly auto farm their resources with no risk of the items being eaten (this is better in multiplayer worlds where someone can actually use the meat but its still worth noting), they're also safer than tentacles, so there's that. I definitely think wurt's merms need a combat buff, especially so they compare better with bosses, but I think wurt is otherwise in a healthy spot, and I don't really think she needs big buffs.
A jack of many trades but master of none is a good description. But with how easy character switching is, why not just temporarily switch to another character that IS the master?
@@eberferatu2324 I'd argue that character switching is inconsistently available due to how its random when the moon rock will land on a world, and even then it must be acquired. so having a character that you won't need to switch to get decent if not good millage with at least the first year until you get a moonrock is good, and even after that, she is really good for farming resources (weather it be autofarms or manual chopping and mining). On two side notes: I find that using merms to help mine riftstalls to be really good, since they don't get pushed back and can mine them indefinitely until they break, they also arent targeted by the moon goops, which I'd argue is niche, even if its a neiche that only exists if you turn on rifts early (they might also be able to mine dread stone but I have not tested it). second side note is that I think its a good to compare wurt to webber and wendy, the two other minion based characters. Wendy is absolutely the best of the three due to how combat flexible she is, with the only downside being that Abigail is only one entity and she can get easily overwhelmed by stronger enemies. wurt and webber dont have this problem due to how they prefer to swarm their opponents. The tradeoff is between reliability and quantity, spiders are extremely easy to amass and are tamed indefinitely but they're also rather weak, they also cant do mundane work, they only serve combat, and they have a VERY high chance to eat your loot. Merms while only hireable for a short time are much more tanky and kite, so they last longer (and if you hired them with fish, they you get a refund when they die), plus being vegetarians they are less likley to eat enemy drops. The downsides are that merms have larger hitboxes so they struggle I'm massive groups unlike spiders, and they are always wet so they are SPECIFICALLY weak to being frozen and electrical damage (of which the electrical damage is almost not seen in any natural mob). TLDR; Webber is better at pure swarming, Wurt is better at utility and tankiness, and Wendy is better at direct combat, which i think means she has a good neiche with the minion characters. on a last note, I wonder if the intent of wurt is not to have a massive army of merms doing all the work, but rather 10-15 merms that increase your dps and assist you in killing things faster, it could be worth trying out.
@@iguessthisismyworkaccountl8437 You can craft everything to switch characters at any of the 3 alters used to summon celestial champion, no need to wait for the orb
@@eberferatu2324 interesting, I was unaware of that. makes me wonder why the orb even exsists. still, wurt has enough utility to the point you shouldn't really NEED to switch often, sometimes things being convenient comes before them being ideal. plus I cant imagine making moonrock idols to change every time you want to do something being cheap, though with fearweaver cheese being a thing that could be a non-issue. I still think wurt is in a fine spot, if lacking a bit of teamplay.
@@iguessthisismyworkaccountl8437 i have died to a wurt player leaving on klei public servers so many times that it would honestly be worth a whole update to rework her. Whilst indeed, the merm king pacifies them, other players can't feed the merm king, so he stops being effective and all the merms kill you. Otherwise, disguises spoil, so that's also temporary.
A few things - You really only ran the wood chopping test with 5 merms? Typically you'd have at least 10, if not like 20. - Since this video, she got her new skill tree and it helped her a lot. Now she has a skill that protects her in Spring where wetness counts for a whopping 20 degrees less in temperature reduction. This means the only time she'll freeze is early Spring. - I don't know why you mentioned the food thing when you also mentioned any survivors with a food penalty only need 3 stonefruit a day. Like, yeah? You rush lunar island as wurt anyway for the kelp. You never want for for food. Her "no meat" penalty is a complete non issue. - Merm guards are not hard to get. Even without exploiting. All you gotta do is befriend merms -> attack one to make them kill each other -> pick up the fish -> trade merm king and get tentacle spots at a 20% rate. You can also do this for free because you can befriend merms for fish and they drop the one you gave them on death. Most of your complaints about merms are just problems with followers in general. It's hard to get them to target specific stuff. I really wish they did some kind of rework to how followers function.
No i dont think She was underpowered even before the skill tree She was an amazing at everything getting Wood? Merms can do that Getting rocks? Merms can do that Killing weaker bosses? 4000k bosses can be killed by normal merms just get 20 from the swamp where each house Is 4 merms Its just i get her set up Is hard but the merms aint leavin you can Grab them whenever you wanted the only weakness Is they couldnt dig up stumps from trees
As far as swarms go the best character is Webber imo, you get tanky spiders healing spiders shooty spiders and you can get them fairly fast with little cost. When it comes to bosses though bosses with scream attacks kinda just stop them in their tracks
I as a player started with dst when it was in beta and every character was almost the same as in ds and after coming back after few years i have to say that i feel like she is underwhelming even compered to the original characters which are now much better and with many new perks i remember going and testing wurt few days ago and i was so dissapointed becouse i tried the reworked characters first and i have to say Maxwell is amazing to play so is Woodie and Webber which i feel like are the most changed ones and Wurt just felt like such a mess so i was thinking that Wanda which i think is newer i dont really know was gonna be also just a mess but she was fun and good to play i felt like her abilities interected nicely so to me Wurt was very interesting becouse i hoped that merms would be usefull in the future but Wurt is just such a mess(english second language so sorry if its unreadable)
I wonder how wicker can get tentacle spots easily? Wurt can get so many very fast and you just trade with merm king. Easy to amass fish by merm civil wars. You can also just burn the stumps for ash.
You could easily use on tentacles to produce more tentacle spots if you really wanted to. However, that is pretty unnecessary since you can restore the book’s durability in a bookshelf. You could theoretically only use one book if you’re really patient with restoring its durability, but having something like six or seven should be plenty for all your tentacle needs
wurt was the best, maxwell used to have no offense and had to select minning shoveling or choping whilst tentacle farms used to require several books to set up wurt simply was powercrept she had to take time to set up but once she had she was the best of the best as spiders died to aoe too easily to even challenge the weaker aoe bosses whilst merms had enough hp to survive maxwell had less minnions and they were weaker so he could'nt fight bosses with shadows this is why wurt no longer has any best use as she was just powercrept
Maxwell can literally use dark swords & armour for no sanity cost whatsoever (slightly better than wanda if you really struggle with sanity/health), Wickerbottom can use literally anything to kill big tentacles (not hard, especially with fugu hutch) to make hundreds of "On Tentacles" by like day 4 and fun fact, ice cream exists! Also webber needs nurse spiders in order to be at all good... Or spam depth dwellers like an actual alpha male webber chad
I think it’s quite a big buff. The amount of merms needed to kill bosses is DRASTICALLY reduced and they should also be able to rival bearger in wood chopping. Outside of that a lot of perks are beginner friendly which I don’t exactly see as a meaningful buff but they’re fine. Then there are quite a few useless perks. I still don’t think she can compete with Maxwell and Wicker but the fact that merms got buffed so much despite most people pushing the “Wurt OP” narrative feels like a victory and I like to think I contributed to that.
Good points but one thing that I don't agree with is the bearger argument. As you mentioned he doesn't spawn until after 9 hours of gameplay which is a lot. You are correct to ask what would you need with all the wood. For a wurt I imagine it would be for merm houses. Wurt works fairly well into herself. (It's been awhile since I played wurt)Merms to chop forests into houses and king gives spots to get more houses (ocean fishing is made really easy with a couple traps and a couple tin fishin bins) Do the merms work faster than pigs? No, so that's not really a point for wurt just a point to hire helpers. The other point I think wasn't fair is to not attack with wurt when fighting with merms. Followers are weaker then the player character. Even duelists have to be resummoned. To me helpers are better to thick of as better DPS for you and a good way to split the bosses attention. Good video and well thought out. Thank you.
You’re right that making merm houses consumes a lot of wood but I think doing so isn’t worth it. The reason I didn’t fight with merms is because all the methods I consider better require minimal interference from the player. Tentacles, bees, tree guards don’t need help from the player so I’d expect the same from merms, especially considering they’re more expensive
I agree. I'm sorry but having a direct boost in your personal combat is going to be always better than minions, just like dmg, an usually you cant get stuff done in way less than all the resources needed for a merm army.
Isn't the disadvantage of eating only Veggies with 25% buffed effectivity just saving time as you don't need Crockpots, just kelp, Pumpkins, cooked potatoes (for healing), etc.?
It might but the point I was making is that a surplus of food is easy to achieve (to the point that it’s a common practice to burn stone fruit when farming for rocks). This argument definitely is more dependent on the person’s play style but I for one absolutely prefer eating meat. Also, the lack of good crockpot recipes is worse now that polar pouch exists.
when I saw the video, I thought this video was a massive L, but after watching it, I kinda agree with pretty much everything you have said Wurt has potential but she is outclassed anyway
@@eberferatu2324 As a wurt player I still feel like she is better but still underpowered. Best thing to come from the skill tree is the mosquito thinhgs and the merm tools
Haven’t done an awful lot of looking into Webber so take everything I say with a grain of salt. The issue of AOE bosses and simply being outclassed still exists. I’ve seen a couple neat tricks you can do as the character but all together seems pretty lukewarm
@@eberferatu2324 Those nurses are easier to get then merm guards and can kill most bosses due to out healing them, although spiders are almost solely focus on fighting (you can uses shatter/spitters for farming mobs like pigmen)
@@JJ-xh2qi Spiders are much more convenient than merms, but the problem is that spiders eat your loot including meat, deerclops eye, and pig skins. Merms are more convenient when making farms for pig skin. I also say Webber is also very good on other bosses... Don't let your spiders fight deerclops tho.
Wurt mains should not get discouraged after watching this vid. Feedback helps on fixing or buffing characters. Imagine having a sim city wurt or a wurt that could swim with his merms without the need of boats. I know the latter is wishful thinking but please make it happen devs 😂😂😂
I think keli will allow her to tame grassgator exclusively in contradiction of another carnivore character. We all agree no wasd is kind hard to drive on the ocean right? But it makes more sense to have "grass"gator eating meat, just to compensate her lack of meat using.
Think it’s fairer to say she’s slightly underpowered. Not being #1 in anything is fine if you’re okay at everything. Many characters have 1-2 fights they’re much better at as you pointed out but then glaring weaknesses for others. And all those varied strategies take separate setup while merm setup works for all. But she really is just about a different playstyle. The point is it’s fun to do things differently, not to make nothing but meaty stew and periogi. And you’ll find it might be slightly worse but still totally fine to do things differently, and way more fun. She also leans towards worse players. Most players can’t actually kill the dragonfly or raid ruins. And without some of those skill based alternatives her advantages are way better. But, slight buffs and her unique playstyle will be busted. Super excited for that.
My strategy of killing toadstool with blowdarts only also works for all. It doesn't mean that it's anywhere near as good as the usual strats though... And while you do have to set up individual strats for each boss, Wurt's setups are worse. She needs her king, her warriors, her regular farm for healing food, a separate farm for pigs for pig skins and then on top another couple of key items, depending on the boss. And it's a repeat-cost for her, year around. I do agree, Wurt is about a different playstyle. She is supposed to be the goofy character you play for one joke world, and that's it. She's not a serious character. Even with slight buffs, she'll still need to break her own back, year around, just to survive, let alone thrive and kill bosses. Meanwhile, everyone else is whistling dixie, at half the cost and with way more fun. After all, they're not stuck doing Wurt's chores. They can just have fun.
Wurt is always goong to be weak in the hands of an expert, but for a scrub like me, its perfect, with enough prep (say...30-50 merma, far too much investment but it doesn't stop me) I can kill anything, trading time for power, rather then spend an hour learning how to kite, i can spend 10 building an army! xD She is also stupid covienent, once you catch a couple sunfish and icebream, your basically immune to any weather effects, hot cold wet, no matter Ahe doesn't benifit from a lot of good crockpot meals, its fine though, i dont get hit, its what my army is for, and i get more food for living like a barbarian eating carrots, berries, and kelp Conclusion, i agree, she is weak for optimal play, but she won't eat meat, CHEESE is fine ;D This means, while wurt is already my favorite, that skill tree, if it actually makes her good, is going to make her incredible xD

Klei doesn't take the players' problems seriously at all and the area damage doesn't cut anything, only Bee Quen cuts the best, other than that it's bullshit, if I can't get it into caves because of the ground, why are they called loyal naval guards, they don't have any function :D
Yea shes worse at specific jobs compared to others because shes meant to be a jack of all trades master of non. The issue isn't that shes weak its more that everyone else is better as of recently. If characters like maxwell didn't get reworked and if wickerbottom never existed she would probably be considered better. But if your trying to say shes bad because she cant do one thing better than other characters then you dont understand her strengths. I do agree that she is weaker than some of the other characters that doesn't mean shes bad. Shes very well balanced its just that klei cant balance very well.
Wurt is a slow and steady character and the term underpowered I don't agree with that, Wurt's power shines at the late game and yes Wurt's Merm guards are ineffective to SOME bosses like CC and some cave bosses but any other than that merm guards can melt almost all the other bosses in seconds. Merm empire being too expensive.. yes only at early stages of the game only of course. the word better MANAGEMENT AND STRATEGY makes Wurt stronger than many times on many characters on the LATE GAME in a solo world. I can say this because I'm a Wolfgang main that solely speed running all bosses since I played DST and I tried Wolfgang on late game like 1000+ days he's just like meh nothing special but Wurt however gave me a better options in the late game and almost a laid back play through in late and even removed all the hassle that Wolfgang has in the late . Wurt has an empire and the others don't and an empire don't build within a day. People only hates characters at some point maybe they don't fit the characters play style mechanic because all the characters has their OWN UNIQUE mechanics. Only Webber and Wurt can be compared becuase they ran almost the same mechanic but i will choose the more superior race, MERMS.
Eberferatu just say the truth i am glad he make this video because i was thinking about using spools to buy and play her instead of maxwell because i want to see another minion playstile character in my own experience but he open my eyes and maxwell is the best.
according to your logic, every character is weak and useless, because wolfgang has 2x damage and other characters don't. "something else can do something similar, and I think they do it a little bit better" isn't a valid argument. Also, have you ever actually played wurt for longer than 1 season, and used any of her perks?
There is some truth to that, if you want to be the most efficient then you have little motive to settle for anything other than a small handful of methods. “A little better” is a gross understatement. It’s impossible to precisely say how expensive something is compared to something else but take farming bee queen for example. Wurt needs approximately 100 boards, 40 spears and 20 tentacle spots, meanwhile Wickerbottom needs around 2 stacks of walls, 7 tentacle spots and 14 papyrus. One is clearly a lot better. As for the seasonal perk argument, I did realize that it’s easily misunderstood. What I meant is that worlds just reach a point where scaled furnaces are very cheap to the point that you can place one everywhere. And yes, this is from personal experience. As I said, Wurt can absolutely use her abilities for a variety of things but I always find that something else is simply cheaper while more often than not also doing a better job. And again, yes, DST has the issue of characters and methods boxing each other out due to one being blatantly better, but that won’t change if we pretend that everything is equal
Peak DST thesis

Fun fact: this video is half the length of the summer season on that infamous seasonal clock
In the end, the idea was there but the execution fell on it's knees
to be fair, WE LOVE MEATSHIELDS
Yes I want more merm culture
@@aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa..... hell yeah brother
I wish they would add more variants of merms (such as the fishermen) in the skill tree update. I just wanna play sim city with Wert.
that would be really fun.
something else id like is the ability to have a little more control over merms, mabey having an item that you can use to have them all swarm and continuously attack your target and one to have them scatter and keep a distance, it would make it easier to control them and lead to them dying less

You can still get gold as Wurt via certain fish.
Here’s a few things I have realized I got wrong/realized I should point out.
1. Live fish do not spoil faster while wet
2. You’re probably going to be farming stone fruit for rocks which will give you excessive food
3. Butterfly wings do give the hunger bonus
The other thing you got wrong was the part about Wurt being an underpowered character.
Empirically you have proven that she is not better than other resource gatherers
But those gatherers also require a different mindset to play as so does Wurt
I find that characters that deviate from the norms of how Dst is played are usually seen as unfavorable or bad just because the perks they provide don't compare to what exists currently.(walter wurt worm) They have to fit within the current ideals of what is strong.
I don't think there's a way to maximize something so udderly bad
There always is. Just need to look at it through a different lens. @@BindingOfKana
As I said, I’m open to being convinced the character is good but currently EVERYTHING under the sun suggests she’s bad. Yes you can still use things available to all characters but as I said “the methods of get things done which she unlocks… are simply worse than what you could otherwise be doing”
@@BindingOfKanashut up kana, you got meteored
@eberferatu2324 well I think that would not be possible to be able to convince you.
Just because of the video itself. It looks like you have found the optimal ways to complete the goals of the game using other characters. And judged them all based on numbers. And yeah those numbers don't lie. But what's lacking is the human element and in the video you were not going to discuss that.
But I think it would be great to hear your feelings about the character. Outside of just numbers.
I've noticed that when playing certain characters I have a much different game plan for each of them. Instead of each of them playing the same way
So that is what I think would be great to hear.
Not to mention that her skill tree isn't even out yet. It may change a lot about her.
Wurt doesn’t change anything because her perks are useless and even if you use them she does things other characters already have
@@dextops702 again, who do you consider unique then?
That's the point he say that's wurt are not the best of something and forget she do everything much better than other characters. Just not the best
Which is why I think her skill tree should give her Hamlet-esque perks
@@eberferatu2324you think?
This is all true but I think the player should still get rewarded for all that setup to get a full base running. I say this as a non-Wurt main. Webber is a lot less well-rounded but his mobs are way stronger and easier to set up. You can get nurse spiders within the first 8 days, not rush but CLEAR the ruins before day 15, and then finally get your late-game army set up as soon as you surface. Not many bosses (e.g. Celestial Champion) can take on 10 nurse spiders, 25 spitters, 8 dangling depth spiders. Hell, you can skip ruins and just surface the spitters from the caves and have a perfectly fine late game army by day 10.

one neat idea i had for her skill tree would be a path around new buildings to make your merm village feel more alive and scale better such as being able to make shops ran by merms sort of like hamlet or a merm crown craft that can be used to auto recruit merms nearby or another path focused around combat like making merm guards stronger in groups or giving wurt a 10% speed increase while the king is alive

I want Merm guard to be capable of actually patrolling like a guard. Hell id wanna see even Merm gatherers. There's so much potential for her skill tree update. And i want it all to be expensive >:). I love the idea of a lategame functioning alive Merm City.
@@xdrago1051 I'm happy with what we got, but I think your ideas would've been better
#1 Setup
On this point i want to question how expensive Wurt truly is to set up if by day 150 in a casual decorative world where i could've gotten to this point by like day 50 i already have access to as many merms can fit on the map.
#1.5 Celestial Champion
-This is not really important, just a sidenote. This is the same reason why you dont want 100 spiders on Webber to take on bosses and prefer more like 40 as more spiders can actually mess up your spiders strategy (given you know what you're doing)-
#2 Log Farming
The gap between Maxwell Bearger and Wurt is there but its nowhere near as big as you make it out to be when done properly. (This section by itself took me like hours to test, i had to redo it so many times for accurate timings 😮💨)
#3 Hunger
I think its kinda weird how Wortox surviving off of only meat at 0.5x food multiplier is a testament towards meats effectiveness but Wurt being capable of surviving even at a 0.1x food multiplier with 0 issue isn't.
#4 Thermal fish
This one i dont understand (apart from cave exploring, For caves thermals and scaled furnaces are far better) how it could be seen as worse.
#5 Spring
What does it matter that it being wet makes the sunfish spoil faster? 3 days instead of 4 is irrelevant when you have multiple of them. Sunfish alongside ice breams spawn in groups, if you're catching one you're catching multiple. No Wurt player only catches 1.
#6 Marsh Turf
I find it very funny how a 30% free speed bonus that can spammed around the entire map for the cheapest price possible (the recipe calls for rot for Christ's sake) is viewed as a very minor buff just because a beefalo exists in the same plane as Wurt.
Thanks for reading 👍
Also my timings were real far off for how fast the merms kill Celestial Champion in my original comment (i took something at face value that i really shouldn't have🤦♂) so completely disregard those timings, that was my bad.
Well not by herself but with her army her dps rises to easily above 2,000+ while Wolfgang is capped at 1,872 dps (to my knowledge)
Do you see what i mean?
I wouldn't call it "underpowered" but its not "overpowered" until late game
wurt can beat all seasons easy
(as long as you set autumn to extra long)
And remove all the other seasons...
- catapults do better against fuelweaver, therefore merms are bad
- Why fight toadstool when you can dupe napsacks?

"Furthermore, ryftstalls. Mining them can get very expensive and time consuming. In the post game, it's quite a hassle for wilson tier characters to mine other than having a weather pain at all times."
Oh, you mean the item that you can comfortably get 6-12 every spring by having an automatic Volt Goat farm and killing a couple of Moose/Goose-s?
"Something else that can be mitigated with a litany of merms is just getting them armored. When it comes to bee queen, you shouldn't need way too many merms if a portion of them are kitted up with bee hats."
So you need what? 10 merms? Are you going to gather 80 silk to armor them?
"Wurt is a better lumberjack than wilson, wendy, wigfrid, willow walter and wormwood. She's also a better miner than the mentioned characters."
And all characters, including Maxwell and Woodie are comically worse than Bearger.
"She arguably has a more successful bee queen than all of them."
Wendy needs like three potions, 2-3 marble suits, 4-5 Beekeeper hats (which are actually easy to get for her, since she has Abigail) and a Hambat. Wormwood can just use his spikesuit and get some more healing. Wigfrid can now use her battle spear and delete Bee Queens minions faster than she can spawn them, though at the time of you writing this comment she didn't have that so that's fair.
"They do most of the mining and chopping and it saves on the durability of gold tools, saving what you would need gold for."
Once again, Bearger.
@@chirsgw5360 I don't get you saying you can get 100 boards that early. Trees take quite a while to grow to actually get you 400 wood
If you don't count the time to obtain that many trees yeah most likely
@@eberferatu2324 Then you look at maxwell and see that he's a jack of all trades master of all

Another thing about wurt is that I consider her a solo player, she can barely uses her skills to help others and others to play her, In fact, I see wu rts making bases in swamp all the time isolated from the rest of the players
she can make the merm disguise for other players so that they can hire merms and also be neutral to merms
I have no idea how you can't see that.
she is really good at farming pigs and spiders, and since she wont use the meat thats free food for everyone else who uses it
@@larsthememelord3383 that spoils and the king also stops existing when you don't feed him so you literally have to blow up the merms (or otherwise get rid of them) if you don't want to randomly die after a wurt player leaves. a good and robotically online wurt player, has good teamplay, but literally nobody can stay awake forever so you have to destroy the merms if you don't want to die or, be the host of the server and shut it down when the wurt leaves, which literally nobody will like you for
@@peanutsveryepicchannel8699there's a reason you don't build merms or other things directly on the base, no one's saying that you need to blow up all pigmen just because they're hostile to certain characters, it's just stupid
If you have any sense of logic you'd just, not put the merms directly on the base, but if the wurts soloing and other people join into their base on a late game server, that is entirely their fault to die since wurt also likely has fish disguises in bundling wraps near the merm king for easy revival

THANK YOU FOR SAYING THIS, I HATE THAT ONE GUY THAT SAYS ''WORTOX SUCKSSS'', ''WURT BEEEST''
The fish are much better thah circuits. Wx also loses out on merm abilities.
Okay but character switching
@@eberferatu2324 Maybe character switching is too easy. It's like cherry picking. To play a world with only one character is another challenge.
Merms against beequeen/dragon fly is super easy very early on.
This video aged like milk
I absolutely disagree. Her skill tree is a substantial buff and this video probably contributed to Klei’s decision of making it so. Sure, the video is outdated now but that was inevitable
Great job making good points about it.
I would love fleshed out NPC characters in my world that I can interact throughout my survival.
for something that requires a lot of wood in the first year funny enough is wurt herself
Me when character is not the best at everything possible.
But for real this is more of a maxwell is too strong rather then wurt not being good. Wurt and maxwell are pretty much on the same level. And have very similar kits with maxwell just being too good.
If they are in the same level then Maxwell isn't too good, you gotta decide yourselves
Yeah, Maxwell is too good (but he has low health so it’s balanced trust me). But regarding your first point, there’s no reason to choose the second best method over the best method (especially with how easy character switching is), and since Wurt isn’t the best at anything, that leaves her in an uncomfortable spot
@CreeperDjtown yeah I didn't explain myself properly. Maxwell is too good but if they better balanced they would have almost the same kit.
@eberferatu2324 I mean that's dumb. Like the logic makes no sense. Wurt has a kit that is overall better over half the cast. (This means she is bad). And has 1.5 downsides(this is unbalanced. Trust me)
@@joeysora Maxwell chopping wood better than Wurt is not OP...
Can't wait for her skill tree, you are kinda right in all your points but honestly as a Wurt main I don't even want her to be the best, I want her to be versatile and at least good at doing everything, not great, just good. If she becomes just the best in everything the game becomes kinda boring, I play dst to just chill and have a challenge every now and then when I feel like it
Btw you don't "need" the perfect character to beat dst, you just need enough armor and an ham bat, time is not an issue in this game if you are not a speedrunner and every character can do some bosses and clear the ruins just in autumn, healing food is also not an issue because blue and green caps exist in the game since you create the world (also locating these biomes in the caves is easy if you know where to look)
i think that a lot of this is stuff that would be easily remedied by Wurt's skill tree.
once she gets it.

I think Wurt with the skill tree is good, although I’m yet to do much looking into it
@@eberferatu2324 ahhh I hear you. Change the total now if you haven't yet, you know, while yoir hear and all.
Lips is also an underpowered driver
two things I will question and critique about this video:
1. availability and flexibility: I feel wurt is a bit like woodie (or pre-skill tree woody) where he wasn't bad but he wasn't great either, a jack of many trades but a master of none, except wurt is better at everything she does. granted in a server with multiple people she can easily get outclassed, but in a solo scenario she has multiple avenues to tackle problems that only some characters can deal with easily or comfortably.
A few things
- You really only ran the wood chopping test with 5 merms?
Pls make a video why maxwell is the best design character

Hi Hexxy : D
Absolute Maxwell gaming right there
As far as swarms go the best character is Webber imo, you get tanky spiders healing spiders shooty spiders and you can get them fairly fast with little cost.
Tentacle spots from big tentacles, the ones underground.
wurt was the best, maxwell used to have no offense and had to select minning shoveling or choping whilst tentacle farms used to require several books to set up wurt simply was powercrept she had to take time to set up but once she had she was the best of the best as spiders died to aoe too easily to even challenge the weaker aoe bosses whilst merms had enough hp to survive maxwell had less minnions and they were weaker so he could'nt fight bosses with shadows this is why wurt no longer has any best use as she was just powercrept
She has so many small fun traits and quirks, but her main mechanic the merms, just fall flat
It seems like the wurt skilltree is out... What are your thoughts about It?
I think it’s quite a big buff. The amount of merms needed to kill bosses is DRASTICALLY reduced and they should also be able to rival bearger in wood chopping. Outside of that a lot of perks are beginner friendly which I don’t exactly see as a meaningful buff but they’re fine. Then there are quite a few useless perks.
I still don’t think she can compete with Maxwell and Wicker but the fact that merms got buffed so much despite most people pushing the “Wurt OP” narrative feels like a victory and I like to think I contributed to that.
it took him a while... but finally.
The dst god has SPOKEN
@@eberferatu2324 fair enough. It is more expensive but the helper helps with the expense but it might not be worth it in the end. Fair enough.
I agree. I'm sorry but having a direct boost in your personal combat is going to be always better than minions, just like dmg, an usually you cant get stuff done in way less than all the resources needed for a merm army.
exception to this are maxwell duelists, because they're stupid
Isn't the disadvantage of eating only Veggies with 25% buffed effectivity just saving time as you don't need Crockpots, just kelp, Pumpkins, cooked potatoes (for healing), etc.?
It might but the point I was making is that a surplus of food is easy to achieve (to the point that it’s a common practice to burn stone fruit when farming for rocks). This argument definitely is more dependent on the person’s play style but I for one absolutely prefer eating meat. Also, the lack of good crockpot recipes is worse now that polar pouch exists.
Im gonna need a lot of fish and copium after watching this.
when I saw the video, I thought this video was a massive L, but after watching it, I kinda agree with pretty much everything you have said

@@eberferatu2324 As a wurt player I still feel like she is better but still underpowered. Best thing to come from the skill tree is the mosquito thinhgs and the merm tools
How do you think Wurt compares to Webber the other mob focus character
I like the Wurt's playstyle, but unability to earn gold from pork king just kills me. Guess i gotta git gud, since i'd played like 10hrs on her
Wurt mains should not get discouraged after watching this vid. Feedback helps on fixing or buffing characters. Imagine having a sim city wurt or a wurt that could swim with his merms without the need of boats. I know the latter is wishful thinking but please make it happen devs 😂😂😂
i have been discouraged
Wurt is always goong to be weak in the hands of an expert, but for a scrub like me, its perfect, with enough prep (say...30-50 merma, far too much investment but it doesn't stop me)
I can kill anything, trading time for power, rather then spend an hour learning how to kite, i can spend 10 building an army! xD
She is also stupid covienent, once you catch a couple sunfish and icebream, your basically immune to any weather effects, hot cold wet, no matter
Ahe doesn't benifit from a lot of good crockpot meals, its fine though, i dont get hit, its what my army is for, and i get more food for living like a barbarian eating carrots, berries, and kelp
Conclusion, i agree, she is weak for optimal play, but she won't eat meat, CHEESE is fine ;D
This means, while wurt is already my favorite, that skill tree, if it actually makes her good, is going to make her incredible xD
TLDR-she feels strong when your bad at the game, which I am. ;D
This is a great attitude to have. Like the character regardless of strength and acknowledge its weaknesses

If characters like maxwell didn't get reworked and if wickerbottom never existed she would probably be considered better. But if your trying to say shes bad because she cant do one thing better than other characters then you dont understand her strengths. If you wanted a follower character who can fight you can play webber.
The issues that need to be fixed aren't with wurt but with characters like maxwell and wickerbottom.

Well , new willow os just too much
according to your logic, every character is weak and useless, because wolfgang has 2x damage and other characters don't.
And again, yes, DST has the issue of characters and methods boxing each other out due to one being blatantly better, but that won’t change if we pretend that everything is equal
bro why would u do this to yourself, how could you
