- Windows 7 was released over a decade ago, and the current version is now Windows 11. Here's a video where various icons for both versions are compared against each other.

I love the glassy icons on windows 7
It’s crazy how detailed it was before and now it’s very minimalistic.

There's actually a newer version for the windows setup icon... but it's only been used for some packages in the MS store

Simplistic and straight to the point, the way it should be, imagine if the world gave the road signs a 3D shiny look to replace a boring 2 color Stop Sign.
@@MarkWhich Nah, I don't agree for some things, even if they are simple, they make this type of striking and 3D design very attractive to the eye.
Both Windows 7 and 11's icons are really good. Windows 7's ones are more detailed, but windows 11's ones are really modern-looking. I love both detailed and modern designs, so I think both OSes' icons are really cool. (I am a Windows 11 user, tho I used Windows 10, 7 and XP before.)

What I liked about Windows Vista was the user interface and I already used it in Windows 7 and it looks more like xp because I modified its buttons
Windows XP uses a complete different set of icons with a maximum resolution of just 48x48, then we needed higher quality icons as 1080p and more displays became more common so it makes sense for Vista/7's to use 256x256 size icons, it still the norm size today but 512x512 sizes, which Windows 8 and above started to use, but they still use 256x256 on less common icons or icons that don't need to be displayed in a larger size.
The Windows Vista-7 era was a time where Microsoft actually wanted to please their customers. Just look at Vista’s desktop. The default wallpaper is a beautiful aurora, there’s a sidebar with realistic icons, and a shiny black taskbar with a literal button for the start menu. Windows on the desktop have an aero-glass effect, meaning that completely transparent windows without white background (not a typo) will look like real windows on a house reflecting the bright, luminous sunlight. The icons, (from both Vista and 7, up to 8.1) look like real-world things that you can pick up and use. The photo icon (my personal favourite) looks like a “vista”, with gorgeous mountains, a nice blue sky, and a very calm river.
Windows 11 is also nice, too. If you’re looking for simplicity or a modern design, this version of Windows is for you. With a revamped design, up-to-date icons, and a beautiful graphic background, Windows 11 is simply a modern OS.
I am also looking forward to getting a “gaming” tower (3.2 GHz, 500G hard drive, 8G RAM, dated 2012) and installing Vista. May be out of support, but I still have a Windows 8.1 Surface and two Windows 10 laptops. Nothing so beautiful beats Vista or 7 when you love realistic graphics or old computers!

I installed Windows Vista on a Windows 8.1 HP laptop from 2014, it ran just fine. I didn’t used virtual machine, i just installed Windows Vista on it natively

Windows 7 icons were made with love. So much time invested and that gets reflected on the details.
Oversimplified everything looks (sometimes) good, but it shows laziness instead of good work.
This is a misconception.
Windows 7 icons are a sign of laziness and bad taste.
Skeuomorphism is not love, a vestige.

this is just a misconception, Windows 7 icons are designed easier and faster than modern ones.
Aero-style Windows 7 is one of the offshoots of skeuomorphism.

Windows 7 has more of a lively approach, and Windows 11 has a simple, flat look.

I really hated (and hate) the trend of minimalism and plain colors present in 2012 - 2022 designs, so seeing Microsoft reintroduce gradients and soft illumination to their icons is something I appreciate a lot tbh. It might not be the same as the glassy and refined designs of the Windows Vista/7 era, but these designs do look both stylish and modern. I like them 👍 .

Fact: Some Windows 7 icons are the same in Service packs of Windows Vista, while all remain the same in Windows 8 and 8.1. In Windows 10, they are pretty much the same, BUT very oversimplified... At least 11's icons are better that 10's
All they mostly have only done is put rounded corners on everything, mainly the folders and app icons, basically there's not a lot of change.
Someone else didn't realize that from windows 3.1 to 7 the icons were detailed and 3d but from windows 8 to 11 they are modernized and flat I miss the old windows moments :(

No one can deny that Windows 7 icons are much prettier compared to Windows 11
Even more so because the W7 icons are in a more 3D dimension than this "minimalist" aspect of W11 that I think many don't like.
It's called a trend. But I like both. It all started when iOS did this. However, I like Windows 11 more because of its simple 2D icons, which become 3D because of shading.

I believe that some icons are drawn in Figma straight ahead. An amazing tool, I’ve remastered them before.

in my opinion windows 7 is better because you have better compatiblity, games folder, beatufil wallpapers, beatiful aero glass scheme and very nice sounds, and i still use windows 7 and i don't care if windows 7 support has ended! I will stay on windows 7 forever!! And windows 10 is the worst OS i have ever seen!!! and windows 11 is basically the same!!!!!!

Still, it seems that Windows 7 is more modern and newer, and came out later than Windows 10 and 11.
In truth, the Internet Explorer logo is from Windows 7 without a service pack, by adding a service pack you will get a more updated version of internet explorer

Well Windows 7 was a wonder for world after windows xp and the icons used till 8.1 is era type .Yes still I use Windows 7 but soon will switch to newer version I think that windows 7 have is really simplified by its icons also . Also I have done super personalize my windows and it's taskbar is beutifull up in desktop . There are many options in windows 7 still not known to people but windows 11 is known .
Some Windows 11 icons does looks good than older version, some look too oversimplified and some file format icons doesn't look like it fits in the design of Windows 11

It appears that the icon in win11 is less detailed but much clear and some how windows 11 has quit lot compatibility comparing to windows7. I think the detail been taken off could some how related to file size, as you see windows have tons of icons even in different sizes, so if taking off some details off could add some compatibility to lower end computers would be better to consumers and also some IoT devices that rely on windows IoT operating system, and by the way I don't think windows 11 delete all the old icons, some could be just hidden using registery.

Fact, you only should us a fraction of all icons thats were changed, it took 3 versions of windows to full change them all to a metro look, Windows 8 changed some to a lot of them, Windows 10 changed most of them then finally RegEdit after a few updates, then by the time Windows 11 came out, everything was changed, leaving any remaining traces of Vista a thing in the past.
