It shows that Kermit hadn’t yet become an established character that a sketch could end with him being horrifically devoured to the audience’s delight.
According to the good folks at IMDb, Jim Henson's work with puppets on TV goes back more than a decade before this appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. Beginning in 1955 - on local TV in Washington, D.C. - Henson had a show called "Sam and Friends," where Kermit was first introduced.
I believe Jim Henson's big break on national TV occurred when he was a regular on the Jimmy Dean show in the mid-1960's, with Rolf as the featured Muppet.
Those Disney jerks would get a lot of complaints. Henson was smart on Muppet Show to have it be a different character when he redid the sketch on there.
or maybe, it would feature a fish eating two sea worms, before being eaten by a long-nosed shark. That would show the food chain diagram coming to life.
Waldorf: “Now THAT’S entertainment.”
Statler: “That’s what you said about the War of 1812.”

Yeah, and he still wasn't a frog yet. Back when the best-known Muppet was Rowlf the Dog.
I guess that's how you have to see it. To me, it's like, "No, Kermit isn't like that. That would be more Constantine."
That same sketch was performed a couple years earlier as the first ever muppets sketch on tv.
So, yes, Kermit wasn’t established yet.
The feet were very different too
This was before the lil guy had flippers!! Look at his little nubbins
He is also wearing a red sweater.
Thank you Muppets, for all the Sweet childhood memories! 🐸 May you Rest In Peace 🕊 Jim Henson. Thank you for sharing! 💖
CLASSIC MUPPETS!!!

The Rowlf and jimmy dean sketches are classic, Jim Henson made it his mission to make Jimmy break as much as possible.
2:05 Big V!!!
My first thought was Kermit ate Slimey!
He did & his twin . And Kermit had Ernie's laugh !!
I think this sketch is what made me get a fear of being eaten alive
Classic
so tuney. 0:14
Monster aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Can you imagine Kermit doing this for Disney today?
It would be too offensive to vegans and vegetarians.
It would look more like the Sam & Friends version.

Well, it's Jim doing it.
To see Kermit act like that doesn't seem right.
Way to give away the punchline in the thumbnail
Isn’t that Oscar’s pet worm?
Slimy !!
Not anymore 😂

What if Leni sing that song????
Poor Kermit!

Does Big V look like Gorgon Heap?
No he doesn't
You have to wonder what was in Henson's head when he created this stuff and why he enjoyed this. I wonder if some people ever complained about it.
Jim Henson liked dark humor. It was a jarring contrast to his very polite and quiet demeanor.
@@WalkerRileyMC Not all dark humor is funny.
Cuz it's funny
@@doraemonismyman I disagree about that. I wonder if he did get any complaint mail about the stuff he did.

Is this the debut of Oscar’s pet worm slimey?
The purple head is Yorick.
OMG Kermit ate Slimy & had Ernie's laugh !!
The one on Muppet Show was better because Lennie looked meaner than Kermit here so you felt he enjoyed eating the worms vs. what you see here.
Same skit in black and white on Jack Paar show 1964
Kermit wearing a sweatshirt is terrifying
😑 how is that scary
👀🤔😜😂😂🤣🤣🤣
the end video covered it
Kermit's brother.
Big V
Hehe
What is going on
I'd rather see this with Constantine.
And why did he laughed like Ernie?
Ok
KERMIT IS DEAD WHY ARE YOU CLAPPING
